Undead Beast Master: Living Solely for My Desires

Chapter 364: The Headless Pursuer

About an hour had passed since the attack they had endured. It had been one hellish hour.

Zaroth's eyes scanned the ground below, gaze focused on the sprinting figure that was running towards them without rest.

The Dullahan was still hot on their tail. After some time, Eldros had managed to spot the being that was running below them. Since then, Zaroth's gaze hadn't left the being for even a fraction of a second.

"What is it made of?" he muttered under his breath. He knew that the thing was undead — it lacked a head, after all — not to mention that it had endless stamina.

"Can't you shoot it down?" Eldros complained, an irritated expression on his face.

Zaroth simply shook his head. He knew if he tried to burn the thing with Luna's fire breath, it would be meaningless.

"For some reason, I doubt it will die this easily," he answered.

Eldros gritted his teeth in frustration. With a simple gesture, he sat on his bottom and began inspecting the front for any potential enemies.

No one could blame him for his reaction. The feeling of being watched still lingered—like maggots crawling under your skin, like someone had gripped your heart and was just waiting to crush it.

"A mental attack," Zaroth concluded. It was rare for him to feel so scared, so whatever the Dullahan was doing was obviously impacting his psyche in a negative way.

The same was happening to Eldros, while curiously enough, Luna seemed unaffected in the slightest.

In the hour Zaroth had spent observing the entity, he'd begun to recognize certain patterns, though one mystery still nagged at him: how had it managed to appear on his dragon's back without alerting them?

It couldn't have been possible by levitating on Rynor's mirrors since they would have seen the creature's form far away.

"What am I missing?" he muttered, irritated. Not knowing everything was unnerving — and the creeping panic in his heart didn't help.

The pressure that had been steadily building suddenly vanished—gone, like it had never been there. But it wasn't just the pressure that disappeared. The figure was gone too.

'Luna!' However, this time Zaroth was ready. He had never moved his eyesight from the Dullahan, so it disappearing instantly could only mean one thing —

Teleportation!

They had discussed what they would do if the Dullahan appeared on Luna's back again. As such, the moment she heard her master's command, she flipped her body mid-air—180 degrees.

Zaroth and Eldros didn't fall due to the iron grip with which they were holding her bones. However, the Dullahan didn't expect that and plummeted back to the ground.

'So it inflicts you with panic and once it builds up enough, it uses it as fuel to teleport,' Zaroth concluded, letting out a sigh of relief. The more he knew about his enemies, the better.

"You alright?" After the Dullahan fell to the ground and Luna returned to her original position, Zaroth asked, knowing Eldros didn't take too kindly to such gestures in the air.

"I will manage," Eldros waved his hand dismissively, not showing worry on his face.

It seemed that the fear of death was a pretty good motivator to get over his motion sickness.

When the Dullahan hit the earth, it broke into a sprint once again, the pressure slowly beginning to return.

"So we have two things we have to worry about chasing us…" Zaroth chuckled, shifting his gaze to the magma serpent.

Considering how destructive it was for the beast to just move, he honestly didn't want to know how much destruction it had caused on its path. They had passed over several cities by now, so there were dead civilians, that much was certain.

'As long as they are fine,' Zaroth thought, clenching his palm into a fist. He was worried, not for himself but for his friends. They must have still been on the battlefield, fighting against the legion of undead.

All that he knew about the legion was that it never tired, similarly to his undead beasts. However, the big difference between his undead beasts and the Graveborn emperor's undead was that the emperor seemed able to command millions of creatures at the same time.

And fighting against an army of million undead would tire out anybody eventually.

Thankfully, Midnight had gone to the battlefield to help, Elysia was there as well, and if the worst came to shove, Lily could use Shifter on one of them to boost their power by a lot, if necessary.

But that didn't mean they would be able to hold out forever… so he had to hurry. Hurry and put an end to this madness.

After countless hours, something changed on the horizon. A colossal tree stood taller than a mountain, letting out an eerily green energy.

"This has to be the capital!" Eldros, being the one that surveyed the front, was the first one to notice the city.

Zaroth instantly broke his gaze on the Dullahan and turned around. His eyes widened when he saw the tree.

'Holy shit,' was the first thing in his mind. He had been told that the tree had been massive, yet it paled to any description he had ever heard about it.

It wasn't just tall — it was colossal. The only thing bigger than it was the magma serpent, still relentlessly pursuing them.

The tree felt unnatural… but yet again, considering where they were, it wasn't that surprising.

Having finished surveying the tree, Zaroth's eyes drifted to the East gate, where there was a commotion taking place.

No, "commotion" was an understatement — it was a bloody battle where countless undead creatures were flying in all directions, having their heads and limbs torn apart.

Zaroth's lips curled into a smile as he saw the cause of the destruction. It had been a while since he'd seen David. He had flown over much of the empire without spotting even a trace of the man, which had left him concerned.

Yet looking at him battling against the countless undead with chilling precision made it clear Zaroth's worries were unfounded.

"It seems we've gained a new ally," he said, suddenly feeling that their chances of taking down the Graveborn Empire had increased tremendously.
