Chapter 58: Meeting Natasha
Alex closed the system screen with a tired sigh as the glowing interface faded from view. The thrill of new power, the satisfaction of recent rewards, and the surge of fresh talent coursing through his veins—it was gratifying. Yet, in that moment, he craved something far simpler.
Rest.
He eased back into the massive bed, sprawled across the master suite of what was once Wilson Fisk's private mansion. Now, it was his domain. The room was dim, quiet, and peaceful. Around him, the women he cared for lay sleeping, their soft breathing the only sound in the opulent chamber.
"So this is what peace feels like," he whispered. "A second chance at life... and I'm actually living it."
The following morning, he rose early—just as he always had.
Despite the wealth, the influence, and the demonic strength he now commanded, Alex had never let go of who he was at the core. He was still a doctor. Still the man who once healed people without asking for more than they could afford. That part of him remained untouched.
After a quick wash and a light breakfast, he left the mansion alongside Maria, his assistant and nurse, as they resumed their daily routine.
Their destination was the same modest clinic in the heart of Hell's Kitchen. It lacked luxury and polish—but it was his. The people in the neighborhood still called him "Doc," children smiled brightly whenever they saw him, and even the local thugs understood well not to stir trouble near his clinic.
Day by day, his life followed a calm rhythm. He treated wounded gangsters, tended to sick elders, healed minor scrapes, and stitched up bones—never asking for explanations or expecting anything in return.
To many, he was the ghost doctor. And on these streets, everyone knew better than to cross him.
Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Cypher and Zephyra were busy overseeing the remnants of Kingpin's underworld empire. What had once been a tangled web of charity fronts, smuggling rings, illegal arms deals, and political manipulation was now a streamlined, efficient machine under their command.
Rumors began to circulate in the dark corners of the city:
"Someone new has taken the throne."
"But no one knows his name."
"They say two women run the whole thing—one cloaked in shadow, the other cloaked in lightning."
Weeks passed.
Hell's Kitchen remained unusually quiet. No gang wars. No mass violence. Just a rare and uneasy peace.
Until one evening...
The calm was broken as the clinic door burst open with alarming force, setting Alex on high alert.
A woman staggered in, dressed in a tattered black combat suit. Blood soaked one side of her ribs, and her tightly braided auburn hair was messily disheveled. Her breathing was ragged, sharp.
Alex glanced up from where he was wrapping a patient's wrist.
Their eyes locked.
Natasha Romanoff.
The Black Widow.
She didn't say much. She didn't pull a weapon.
She just muttered, "Help… please."
Alex didn't hesitate. "Sit."
He didn't ask who she was or why she was hurt. He didn't interrogate her about what kind of mission nearly got her killed. At this moment, she was just another person in need of healing.
He gathered his tools and got to work.
Though inwardly, he sighed to himself.
'So… SHIELD has finally picked up my scent,' he thought, as he examined the damage. The wounds were real—deep, painful. Definitely not faked.
'A real professional. Even with injuries like these, she didn't show an ounce of fear. That level of discipline comes from years of pain.'
As he worked on the gash across her side, he added, voice calm, "Just so you know, miss… I'm not exactly normal. I've got powers, so don't be alarmed when I use them."
He hovered his hand above the wound. A soft glow emerged as he began channeling Chi energy into her. A warm, steady pulse flowed from his palm into her body, supercharging her natural healing and boosting her life force. Her eyes widened faintly. She'd known from intel he had powers—but seeing them firsthand was clearly something else.
She kept watching silently.
"I've stabilized your condition," Alex said as he stepped back. "With regular treatment, you would've been bedridden for at least a month. Now, you'll be walking again by tomorrow."
She tested her posture, then sat upright with cautious grace. Reaching into a hidden pocket inside her outfit, she retrieved a bundle of cash and handed it to him.
"Thank you," she said simply. "How much do I owe?"
Alex accepted the money without counting it, placing it neatly in the donation box beside his desk. "This will do."
She stood slowly, adjusting her outfit and straightening her posture. Then, she met his gaze again with something more composed.
"My name is Serena," she said, using an alias. "If you ever need anything… reach out. And I'd be willing to repay you… in more ways than just money."
She set a card on the desk, gave him a small nod, and walked to the door.
Alex said nothing. Just nodded once.
When the door closed behind her with a soft click, he let out a low chuckle.
'There it is. Classic honey trap.'
He leaned back in his chair and stretched out.
"Of course they'd send the Black Widow. Can't prove it yet, but I recognize that look—seen it too many times before."
He made no move to follow. Sure, he was still a man—and yes, he had five women in his life. But lust was never what drove him. Each of those women had come to him on their own, choosing him through a blend of affection and the influence of his High human-demonic aura. He never used them and then cast them aside. They were his family now.
And that was enough.
Unless someone truly remarkable crossed his path, someone that could make his heart stir again, he wasn't looking for anyone else. And Natasha?
She just wasn't that kind of woman—for him, at least.
"Maybe Fury sent her to spy," he muttered thoughtfully, reclining in his seat.
Maria approached, leaning softly against him. "Hey, Alex… can Cypher and Zephyra really give me powers too?"
Alex looked over with mild surprise. "Why? Do you want powers?"
Maria nodded, smiling a bit shyly. "Yeah… I mean, everyone else seems to have something special. I just feel kind of normal standing beside you all. I want to help too."
Alex chuckled and gave her a gentle tap on the forehead. "Alright. I'll talk to them. If there's a safe way to awaken powers in you, we'll do it. But no crazy demon rituals or unstable contracts. You're getting something clean."
Her eyes lit up with gratitude. "Thank you, Alex."
He nodded lightly, smiling. "Don't thank me yet. Let's see what they say first."
