Twilight - Dimensional Traveler

Chapter 22: Invitation

Mark was playing a bit of CS when he sensed Su Chen vanish.

He stood up from his chair—not just because Su Chen disappeared, but because he could now sense traces of spatial energy.

Without hesitating, he vanished from the room. When he reappeared, he was standing in the room where Su Chen had been before disappearing.

Mark closed his eyes and began tracking. He had been waiting for this moment for a long time—and had been preparing for it.

One of his theories was that Su Chen could travel between worlds. Now that he'd left a trace behind, Mark could follow it to the guy's world of origin.

It took some time, but Mark managed to locate Su Chen's world.

Mark hadn't expected it to take so long—whatever Su Chen had used, he clearly intended to make tracking difficult.

After recording the coordinates to Su Chen's world, Mark reversed time by a few minutes, arriving just before he had originally appeared.

Is there a better way to hide your tracks from someone than that? Mark thought confidently.

When he opened his eyes, he was back just seconds after Su Chen had vanished.

Looking at the coordinates marked on his panel, Mark smiled. Even if Su Chen tried to return to his own world after being killed, Mark would just follow him there—and kill him again. That way he could be certain the threat was gone.

Turning back to his in-game character, who had just taken a headshot, Mark put on his headset and started swearing at the other player.

The next morning, Mark woke up in a great mood. He was so cheerful, he was even humming a few tunes.

"Son, did something good happen for you to be humming so happily?" William asked with a smile.

Today was his day off after a long two-day hospital shift. As a father, he wanted to spend more time with his son.

But ever since he arrived, Mark had been off to school, and William had been working, so they barely saw each other.

Seeing his son happy, William—who had been a little worried—felt at ease.

"It's nothing. I'm just excited today."

Mark didn't want to reveal anything, so he ate his breakfast in silence. He still had to go to school.

"All right then." William didn't press further. As long as his son wasn't unhappy, that was enough.

Mark finished his breakfast, said goodbye to his old man, and left. William used the day to relax.

When Mark arrived at school, he barely had time to enter the classroom before the bell rang.

After a boring morning of classes, Mark was finally about to see his goddess. After packing up his things, he headed for the cafeteria.

Not seeing her yet, Mark went straight to the line to grab something to eat.

"Good morning, Bella," Mark greeted.

Bella, distracted while reading the menu, turned when she heard someone speak. When she saw it was Mark, she smiled and replied, "Good morning."

Just then, Edward appeared.

"Mark… Bella."

Mark looked at him and replied, "Brother-in-law."

When Edward heard that title, the corners of his mouth twitched for a moment—even Bella noticed and couldn't help but laugh.

Edward simply ignored Mark and focused on Bella.

Watching the couple walk off, Mark said nothing and finished getting his food.

After finding an empty spot to eat, he saw Edythe enter the cafeteria with Alice.

They both glanced toward Mark. After exchanging a few words, they separated.

Edythe walked over and sat in the seat next to Mark. She didn't say anything—just smiled at him and stared at his face.

"Good morning," Mark said.

"Good morning," Edythe replied.

Noticing that Edythe wouldn't stop looking at him, Mark felt a little shy.

Once he finished eating, Edythe spoke up: "I want you to come to my house tomorrow."

Mark, without even thinking, replied: "You're the boss!"

"Seriously? You're not even curious why?" Edythe asked. She hadn't expected him to agree so easily without asking anything.

"No. Just tell me the time and day—and I'll be there," Mark said.

Edythe didn't mind his seemingly indifferent response—she could tell he was trying to provoke her.

Rolling her eyes, she added: "You're so annoying… I'll come pick you up. Is that okay?"

Mark thought for a moment and said, "Fine by me."

"Then it's settled!" Edythe replied, clearly delighted.

Break passed quickly and everyone returned to class. Mark and Edythe walked together to the classroom.

From a distance, a figure observed them walking. After Mark and Edythe disappeared from sight, the figure stood up and left too.
