True Evil Ninja

Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Taking Command of the Military Police!

Fugaku's declaration sent shockwaves through the gathered Uchiha clansmen of the Military Police.

"Clan Head, you—"

"This is…"

Even Yoru, still inside his cell, turned his gaze toward Fugaku.

"Clan Head… What do you mean by this?"

Fugaku gave a bitter smile.

"Yoru, you've seen it yourself. Shisui has become the ANBU Captain—clearly positioning himself against our clan."

"And the only one who can stand against him… the only one who can change the Uchiha's fate…"

"Is you."

The other clansmen fell silent.

They knew better than anyone just how strong Shisui was.

A prodigy. The strongest. "Shunshin no Shisui."

His reputation didn't just dominate the clan—it echoed across the entire shinobi world.

Even Fugaku, as clan head, was no match for him.

But now…

Yoru had emerged.

And awakened the clan's second Mangekyō Sharingan.

Perhaps this was destiny.

Yoru understood.

"But I'm still imprisoned."

Fugaku smirked. "Do you really think that's an obstacle for you?"

Yoru shook his head.

Fugaku sighed. "Fine. Whether you're in this cell or not, you can still be the Military Police Captain."

"As for me… I've long been unworthy of leading this clan."

After a moment of silence, Yoru spoke firmly.

"Clan Head… You must understand."

"If I take command, the Military Police's methods… its very nature…"

"Will change completely."

Fugaku nodded. "I know."

"And I'm prepared."

"You've already proven you were right."

"As Captain… carry out the justice you believe in."

"You know this as well as I do—power alone isn't enough. Authority is just as vital."

Yoru closed his eyes briefly, then gave a single nod.

"Understood."

"I accept."

From that moment on, Yoru became the new Captain of the Konoha Military Police.

Fugaku smiled in relief.

The future was still uncertain. The road ahead, treacherous.

But at least…

The Uchiha had hope again.

"Yoru… You're really not leaving?"

Silence.

Fugaku shook his head, then placed the villagers' gifts inside the cell.

"Don't worry. Within three days, the truth will come to light."

"Mm."

With that, Fugaku and the clansmen departed.

Uchiha Yakumo, along with every Military Police member—whether they'd already pledged loyalty to Yoru or not—bowed deeply.

"We'll take our leave…"

"Captain!"

Yoru chuckled softly.

Soon, the ANBU prison returned to its usual grim silence.

As the newly appointed ANBU Captain, Shisui left behind an operative codenamed "Scale" to replace Aburame Kenpei as the prison's warden.

Scale and his newly assigned guards stared into the depths of the cellblock, unease twisting in their guts.

They couldn't understand why Yoru remained here. What he was waiting for…

Then his eyes snapped open.

"Take these corpses away."

"Clean this place up."

Scale and the other guards bristled with anger—but in the end…

They obeyed.

After all, among the dead weren't just the criminals…

But also Kenpei and their fellow ANBU.

Yoru watched indifferently as they worked, then returned to his meditation.

ANBU Interrogation Division

This branch, led by Morino Ibiki, had one simple purpose:

Extraction. Torture.

Ibiki, the so-called "Sadist," excelled in breaking prisoners both physically and mentally.

Those who ended up in his clutches prayed only for a quick death.

But today, he wasn't alone.

Hatake Kakashi, Yamanaka Inoichi, and Uchiha Yashiro had joined the interrogation.

Their subject?

A young Uchiha clansman and Military Police officer—

Uchiha Hayate.

Though fear gnawed at him, thoughts of Aoki and Captain Yoru steeled his resolve.

After relentless mind probes, memory searches, threats, and psychological pressure…

The four investigators finally paused.

Kakashi, appointed by both Yoru and the Hokage to lead the inquiry, rubbed his masked forehead.

"Well? What's your verdict?"

Ibiki crossed his arms. "No inconsistencies. His testimony holds."

Inoichi hesitated, then nodded. "From the memories I've seen… it matches exactly. His account is truthful."

Kakashi's visible eye flicked toward Yashiro.

"So to summarize: While on patrol, Hayate and Aoki witnessed a group of shinobi assaulting a woman. When they intervened, the woman suddenly attacked Aoki, critically wounding him…"

Yashiro scoffed. "Kakashi, you know the truth as well as I do."

"If those were really ANBU chasing a prisoner, why weren't they wearing their masks?"

"Had they been, Aoki and Hayate would've recognized them immediately and avoided direct conflict!"

"This was a setup from the start!"

"And that 'spy'—if she was strong enough to take down two trained officers, why would she endure torture without fighting back?!"

"This whole thing reeks of a trap!"

Kakashi, Inoichi, and Ibiki exchanged glances.

They all saw it.

But the one implicated was none other than…

The former ANBU Captain. The Hokage's own son.

Submitting this report would mean—

Yashiro's voice turned venomous.

"Kakashi. Yoru trusted you to lead this investigation."

"Will you betray that trust?!"

Ibiki shrugged. "I don't care either way. Truth is truth."

Inoichi's voice was heavy. "Kakashi… The decision is yours."

A long silence.

Then Kakashi exhaled, gripping the scroll like it weighed a thousand pounds.

The Hokage had allowed him to lead this inquiry as a test—to see where his loyalties lay.

And this report… would decide everything.

But then—

"Because…"

"Out of all ANBU, you at least still seem human."

Yoru's words echoed in his mind.

And for a fleeting moment, so did the face of another Uchiha—one who'd always smiled, even in the darkest times.

Kakashi took a deep breath.

"Rest assured, Elder Yashiro."

"I will report the truth… exactly as it is."
