Chapter 32: End With A Bang
"Although I kinda wanna finish this fast, the Marines will be here shortly and I kinda wanna up my bounty, so..." Lucas said, his voice steady as he transformed into NRG. "I'll take my time with you two."
"Enough monologues, you're not getting past us, tin can," Drophy retorted, her tone dripping with disdain.
Momentarily, the three slits on NRG's containment suit glowed pink. "It seems Crocodile switched his plans a bit," Lucas remarked as the slits turned back to their red-hot color.
"Don't get distracted!" Drophy yelled, throwing a baseball bomb that struck Lucas and exploded on impact.
"It... Se... Em..." Mr. 4 tried to say something.
"What a weakling," Drophy interjected, dismissive.
"Hey! That was rude," Lucas said as the dust cleared, revealing him without a scratch. The two Baroque Works agents gasped in shock. Lucas targeted their dog, firing a beam through the slits on his suit and causing the dog to explode.
Mr. 4 reacted slowly, his eyes filled with anger and grief. "What have you done!" Drophy yelled. As she was about to rant, Lucas fired another beam, narrowly missing her. She transformed into a mole and went underground, along with Mr. 4.
"Too easy," Lucas said, walking to the hole Drophy had dug. He channeled a beam and fired a large one inside the hole. The two Baroque Works agents popped out of another hole, snuffed out by the heat.
"Ha! What a joke," Lucas said, morphing into a hybrid of XLR8 and NRG. He ran, creating a small tornado with the two inside, increasing the heat until he trapped them in a dense ball of glass. As he slowed down, he realized he had finished his confrontation. "Letting you go sounds like a pain, so..." he said, his eyes glowing bright orange.
"Now that that's taken care of, I should get going," Lucas said, thinking aloud. "Crocodile didn't fight Luffy in the palace but kidnapped the king. Although Luffy somehow found them and is having his final battle with him, there's still the matter of the bomb."
Lucas dashed to the battlefield, his heart pounding. "Why! Why can't I save anyone..." Vivi cried, seeing her father and Igaram on the ground, bleeding.
"Vivi!" Lucas arrived in a flash, turning back to his normal form. "Now's not the time to cry," he said gently, picking her up and creating a magic circle to heal Igaram. "There's a bomb hidden in the clock tower!" he informed her.
"A what?" Vivi asked, her voice trembling.
"There's a bomb set to blow up in the clock tower. It'll wipe everyone here into past tense," Lucas explained urgently. "The others by now are wrapping up their battles, so..."
"Then we gotta get everyone to stop fighting," Vivi said, her concern for her people evident.
"That's why I called for you. We'll use the explosion of the bomb to grab everyone's attention. You and Igaram will handle the diplomatic stuff," Lucas instructed. He turned into XLR8, picking up Vivi and Igaram, and sped to the battlefield. "I'll leave you guys here," he said, dropping them near the battle, then transformed into Jetray and flew to the tower.
"Ping!" The glass shattered as Lucas entered the clock tower. He blasted the two guards with his laser eyes and cut the giant cannon open. Taking the bomb, he soared into the sky. "This should be a suitable location," he said, activating his omni-armor and flinging the bomb upward. He shot it with his laser eyes until it exploded, causing a massive explosion that distracted those fighting below.
"Huh, this is it," Vivi said as she waited for the explosion to end. "Everyone, please stop fighting!" she cried. The people, dazed by the explosion, hesitated. As Baroque Works agents planted within the armies began to stir chaos again, a streak of blue and black zipped through the armies, tying up anyone with malicious intent.
Vivi stuttered for a moment as she saw Lucas restraining some of the Baroque Works agents, but she gathered her courage and spoke from her heart, addressing the gathered crowd with passion.
"Huh, I thought there was a war going on," Zoro remarked, emerging from an alleyway and joining the crowd listening to Vivi and Igaram.
"If you're here, then I take it the others are on their way as well," Lucas said, appearing behind Zoro.
"Ahh, you scared me! You can't just pop out like that," Zoro said, his usual composure shaken.
Ignoring Zoro's complaint, Lucas focused on the others who materialized beside them, looking all banged up. He had given them teleportation talismans for when they were done with their battles.
"Wow, I'm surprised Usopp didn't use the talisman as soon as he ran into one of the agents," Zoro remarked.
"I gave Sanji his talisman," Lucas clarified.
"Hey! Just who do you think I am, huh?" Usopp yelled, feeling indignant.
"Vivi's giving a speech, then does that mean it's over?" Nami asked, her eyes scanning the scene.
"Speaking of which, what was with that explosion in the sky?" Sanji inquired, curiosity piqued.
"Nothing much. Anyway, we should get going," Lucas said, his tone urgent.
"Huh, why?" Chopper asked, looking up at Lucas with wide eyes.
"The Marines will have this place surrounded soon," Lucas explained.
"Hey, look, it's Luffy!" Chopper exclaimed, pointing towards the king of Alabasta who was carrying a battered and unconscious Luffy.
"And... who's that carrying him?" Zoro asked, squinting in confusion.
"Don't you pay any attention? Of course, that's Vivi's father, the king of this place," Sanji said, exasperation in his voice.
"Are you this fellow's comrades?" the king asked as he approached the Straw Hats, carrying Luffy gently.
"Yeah, thank you for bringing back our captain," Sanji replied, taking Luffy off the king's hands.
"The thanks are all mine. You saved my kingdom, and I'm greatly thankful," the king said, his voice filled with gratitude. "Although we cannot formally show you our gratitude, I'd like for you to rest in my palace before you leave," he added. "Please allow me to secretly guide you there."
The Straw Hats exchanged glances, in a brief silence, they nodded in agreement, ready to follow the king to his palace.
"So... Nom nom nom... you're saying... Nom nom... I've been sleeping for three days?" Luffy mumbled, his words muffled by the sheer amount of food he was stuffing into his mouth.
"Pretty much, yeah," Sanji replied, his voice tinged with a mix of relief and exasperation.
"Vivi's father offered us to rest up here, but we can't stay any longer. And now that you're up, we'll be leaving soon," he added, his eyes briefly meeting Luffy's before returning to the meal before them.
Luffy's eyes widened slightly as he processed the information, but it was clear that his primary focus was on the food in front of him. The dining hall was filled with the clinking of utensils as they had a feast.
Vivi stood nearby, her gaze soft and grateful as she watched her friends. "Thank you, all of you, for everything you've done," she said, her voice carrying a mixture of gratitude and sorrow.
"Don't mention it," Zoro said.
Nami smiled warmly at Vivi. "We're just glad we could help."
Chopper, sitting beside Luffy, looked up with wide eyes. "We'll miss you, Vivi."
Vivi's eyes glistened with unshed tears. "And I'll miss you all. But I know my duty is here, with my people."
Sanji, ever the gentleman, raised his glass in a toast. "To Vivi and the future of Alabasta."
The Straw Hats raised their glasses, the clink of the toast echoing through the room. "To Vivi and Alabasta!" they echoed, their voices filled with joy.
