Chapter 30: Not A Devil-Fruit User
"What do you mean you're not coming? Did you forget the whole reason we're here in the first place?" Sanji yelled, his frustration boiling over. "We have to head to Katorea to stop the rebels and prevent a whole civil war from happening! Or did you forget that already? Has the heat gotten into your thick rubbery head?" he added, his words sharp.
"Not going," Luffy replied stubbornly.
"You what?!" Sanji yelled, his voice echoing through the desert.
"Vivi!" Luffy called out in a serious tone, turning to face her. "I want to kick Crocodile's ass! Stopping the rebels won't put an end to Crocodile's plans," he added, his eyes fierce with determination.
The Straw Hats remained silent, slightly surprised at how Luffy actually had a valid reason for his actions.
"Well... We could..." Vivi stuttered, her voice wavering.
"Look, do you really think everything will be fine as long as no one dies? The citizens, rebels, and even us. Don't forget you're up against one of the Royal Shichibukai, and you're still hoping for everyone to be all right! Don't you think that's a little bit too naive?" Luffy said, his voice growing louder with each word.
"Now wait a minute, Luffy, that's going too far," Nami interjected.
"Wait, Nami," Sanji stopped her. "Let him finish."
The others nodded in agreement. "Let him cook," Lucas said simultaneously, earning a few confused glances.
"So what if that's what I want? What's wrong with that?" Vivi replied, her voice filled with defiance.
"People die," Luffy said simply. A fight broke out between him and Vivi as they each exchanged their ideals. The small scuffle carried on for a minute until Vivi came to terms with what Luffy meant.
"So tell me... where is Crocodile?" Luffy asked, his tone resolute.
Vivi gave in to Luffy's proposal, and the Straw Hats had a new mission: taking down Crocodile. Boarding Lucas's platform again, the Straw Hats made their way to Rainbase, the place where Crocodile was said to be. Vivi explained the location on the map, and they set off with determination.
The morning sun illuminated the horizon as the Straw Hats traversed the desert. "Everyone look," Vivi said suddenly, her face lighting up. Igaram and Carue had made it, she said with a happy smile. Lucas had given them a talisman that would burn green if they succeeded in their part of the mission. Vivi was relieved, but now it was time to focus. They had arrived in the Town of Dreams, Rainbase.
"We'll wait here," Nami said as Luffy and Usopp went to get water.
"Is it alright trusting them with getting the water?" Sanji asked, skepticism in his voice.
"It's fine. It's not like it's some complicated task," Nami responded confidently.
"I don't know... They could bring back more than just water," Zoro remarked.
"Yeah, maybe they could get spotted by the Marines again," Lucas added with a chuckle.
Just then, a commotion erupted, and Sanji went to check it out. "Crap, they really did run into the Marines," Sanji exclaimed.
"Lol," Lucas giggled as they ran to the source of the noise.
"Wait, what about Chopper?" Zoro asked, concern in his voice.
"Don't worry, it's a good thing. Everyone come close to me," Lucas said. As they gathered closer, the Straw Hats vanished from the middle of the street, leaving the Marines confused.
"That was close," Luffy said, laughing.
"What? Where are we?" Nami questioned as she got up.
"I teleported everyone to where Chopper was," Lucas replied.
"Wait, where is Chopper anyway?" they asked, but before they could look any further, they found Chopper below them, having been landed on when they teleported.
"Anyway, let's get going," Luffy stood up, his arms raised high, his spirit unbroken. The Straw Hats, rejuvenated and united in their mission, pressed on towards their next challenge.
"A rather rowdy bunch will be entering the casino. When they do, guide them to the VIP section," a woman in a cowboy hat instructed the security guards, her tone sharp and authoritative.
Not long after, the Straw Hats barged into the casino, their voices ringing through the halls. "Crocodile, show yourself!" Luffy shouted, his voice full of defiance.
"Can it, you idiot," Nami and Usopp bashed Luffy's head in unison. "Do you want to notify the entire nation that we're here?" they scolded, their voices hushed but urgent.
Meanwhile, Lucas, back in his Kraho form, shivered. "It's starting to get cold in here," he muttered, his teeth chattering slightly.
"Then turn back," Zoro suggested from the background.
"No, I want it to be a shocker when I use this guy's powers," Lucas replied, his eyes gleaming with anticipation.
"I found you, Straw Hats!" a familiar voice echoed through the casino.
"Yikes, it's Smokie! Run!" Luffy exclaimed as the Straw Hats made a dash for it. As they navigated through the casino, Lucas couldn't help but liken the scenario to that of the Scooby-Doo gang.
"I won't let you get away this time!" Smoker shouted, chasing after them. The Straw Hats were confusingly guided by the security through the casino, and despite Nami's voiced concerns, Luffy disregarded her warnings, leading them straight into the seastone prison prepared by Crocodile.
"Damn it, we would've gotten away if it wasn't for those misleading guards," Lucas muttered, oddly content.
"You don't look frustrated," Zoro remarked, his eyes narrowing.
"You gotta be in the know to understand," Lucas said, brushing his nose with a smirk.
"Can't... move," Luffy said, his strength waning inside the prison.
"Of course you can't. This prison is made of the same material as the tip of my weapon here," Smoker explained.
"Okay, pause," Lucas interjected, earning confused looks. "...As I was saying, it's something called seastone. It's a substance that carries the power of the sea," Smoker continued. "The prisons at Marine HQ all have cages like this, special prisons made for troublesome Devil Fruit users like you," he added.
"Wait, then does that mean you and Luffy will be powerless inside this cage?" Nami asked, her voice filled with worry.
Zoro slowly unsheathed his sword, annoyed by Smoker pointing his weapon at Luffy. "W-wait a minute, Zoro! You can't fight here," Usopp said, panicking.
"I concur. As fellow prisoners, you should reconcile and get acquainted with each other," Crocodile suddenly spoke, appearing as he sat not far from the cage.
"So you've been sitting there like that, eavesdropping on us? For a bad guy, you sure got quite the personality there, pal," Lucas muttered.
"Crocodile," Smoker muttered, his voice dripping with contempt.
"You c..." Crocodile began, but Lucas cut him off.
"Enough with the chitchat already!" Lucas yelled. "It's my time to shine." He stood at the front, puffing out his chest.
"Did you forget that this cage prevents Devil Fruit powers?" Sanji reminded him.
"Fufu, and who said..." Lucas said, loosening his shoulders. "I have..." He then stretched his arm back like Luffy. "Devil Fruit powers," he said as he reeled in his arm and punched the front of the cage. The entire seastone portion of the prison burst forward, crashing into the glass wall.
"I wanted to shout 'Gomu Gomu Pistol' like Luffy, but next time," Lucas said, a satisfied grin spreading across his face.
