Chapter 116
Chapter 116: Is Horikita Angry?
“Everyone, listen to me, this is just the one-sided story of the C-class students…”
Hirata tried to explain to everyone, but Yamauchi and Ike kept pushing the blame onto Hikigaya, insisting that he should take responsibility. At this point, the rest of the class was clearly starting to waver. It was obvious that Hirata, being a kind-hearted person, was too soft and seemed to want to appease the class while avoiding too much criticism of Yamauchi and Ike’s actions.
“Look, Hirata knew all along, but he kept it from everyone, protecting Hikitani, the true culprit, which ended up causing Ken to be falsely accused.”
Ike was extremely dissatisfied, accusing Hirata of unfairness and favoritism.
Yamauchi, who had always disliked Hirata, immediately echoed Ike’s words and criticized Hirata.
At this moment, Hirata’s weakness became apparent—he had influence, but lacked authority. When faced with internal conflict, his first instinct was always to resolve things peacefully, to avoid making anyone unhappy, but this usually resulted in someone getting hurt anyway.
“Both of you, shut up!”
Suddenly, Horikita slammed her fist on the desk and stood up. It was rare for the usually cold Horikita to show anger, and this startled Yamauchi and the others. When they realized it was Horikita, they noticed she had an expression of impatience.
“What’s the matter, Horikita? This has nothing to do with you!”
“Nothing to do with me?”
Horikita seemed amused by Yamauchi’s words, “Then what exactly does concern me? Watching you two point at Hikigaya from the start, calling him by his name like that. Are you both illiterate, or did no one ever teach you to respect others?”
Horikita then shot a disapproving glance at the boy with dead fish eyes sitting next to them, showing frustration at his ignorance.
“I, I just spoke too quickly, and who told him his name was so hard to pronounce?!”
Yamauchi hastily defended himself after being scolded by Horikita.
“Forget about this for now.”
Horikita coldly dismissed the matter, then turned to Ike: “Don’t you think what you just said was extremely foolish and laughable?”
“Hey, Horikita, what do you mean by that?!”
Ike, embarrassed by Horikita’s public ridicule, shouted back.
“What do I mean?”
Horikita sneered as if she had heard something funny, “Do you think you’re smart? You want Hikigaya to go beg the student council president, bribe them, or manipulate things behind the scenes? Isn’t that just indirectly admitting the C-class students were right? Not only are you harming others, but you’re also making your own foolishness even more obvious!”
Ike turned bright red from the verbal assault, and before he could say anything, Horikita continued to strike back without mercy: “And also, Hikigaya was able to join the student council because of his ability. But you? What ability do you have? Telling filthy jokes and making disgusting comments every day? Who are you to speak for me or anyone else, to pressure others into following your ridiculous words?”
Everyone in the class seemed stunned by Horikita’s series of sharp remarks. Ike, in particular, was left speechless, his face flushed with embarrassment.
It was clear that Horikita was genuinely angry. Usually, no matter how much trouble the monkey duo caused, Horikita would always remain detached and never intervene like this, especially not to argue in front of the entire class.
However, calling it an argument would be a stretch—Horikita was completely dominating, crushing them with her words.
Even Hikigaya and certain expressionless man looked as if they were saying “as expected of Horikita”. After all, they both had witnessed the terrifying lethality of Horikita’s mouth.
“Hey, Horikita, what do you mean by this? Why are you defending Hikigaya, that dead fish-eyed guy?!”
Yamauchi, seeing his “friend” being humiliated, quickly spoke up, then added with a mocking laugh: “I get it now, Horikita. You must like that dead fish-eyed guy, don’t you?”
Horikita merely glanced at Yamauchi with contempt: “Are you a child? Don’t use such childish jokes next time. No one finds them funny.”
“I, I… you…”
Yamauchi’s throat seemed to tighten, and he couldn’t get another word out.
“Horikita, Kanji and Haruki are also doing this for me…”
At this moment, Sudo, who had been quiet for a while, finally stood up to speak on Ike’s behalf. But when he met Horikita’s cold, glaring eyes, he couldn’t bring himself to continue. He looked at Hikigaya, and a flash of jealousy and dissatisfaction appeared in his eyes.
Everyone in the class was intimidated by Horikita’s overwhelming presence. Everything she said hit the monkey duo’s arguments so hard that they couldn’t respond at all. It was a complete one-sided crushing.
Ike was furious and wanted to argue back, but with Horikita’s sharp words, he couldn’t think of a good response. Just as he was about to say something, his eyes suddenly darted to someone, and an idea seemed to light up in his head. He turned the conversation back to Hikigaya: “Hey, don’t let Horikita distract you! This whole mess with Sudo started because of Hikigaya. Even the C-class students said it was his fault. So, Horikita, how do you explain this?”
Yamauchi, who had just been sulking from his defeat, quickly agreed and loudly criticized: “Exactly, it’s all Hikigaya’s fault! He’s the one who caused all this!”
“Everyone, calm down. And also, Hikigaya is a member of the student council. C-class students often break the rules, so it’s normal for him to be targeted.”
At this point, an unexpected person came to Hikigaya’s defense: the little angel from D-class, Kushida. Even Hikigaya looked at her in surprise. However, her actions didn’t appease Ike and Yamauchi at all. Instead, they made them even angrier.
“Why are you helping that dead fish-eyed guy, Kushida?!”
“That’s right! Kushida, you must’ve been tricked by Hikigaya!”
In an instant, Kushida found herself unable to say anything more, as she felt the questioning looks from other boys and people like Koyuki.
“You two useless…”
Horikita seemed about to get even angrier when suddenly an unexpected voice interrupted.
“What a pair of idiotic monkeys! Could they have sneaked away from the zoo?!”
Hikigaya’s voice wasn’t loud, but everyone in the class heard it clearly. It wasn’t long before someone started laughing, and then the whole class burst into laughter!
Even Horikita couldn’t hold it in and turned her face away, trying to suppress the smile at the corner of her lips. Only two idiots, Yamauchi and Ike, were as red as monkeys, unable to say a word.
