Chapter 101
Chapter 101: Special Invasion!
After school in the evening, Hikigaya Hachiman followed his usual routine and went to the student council office for his duty. As soon as he stepped inside, he saw Tachibana Akane talking with a male student. Hikigaya recognized him—he was also a third-year student and a member of the student council.
Akane seemed to be discussing something with this upperclassman, but it looked like the matter had already been resolved. When Hikigaya entered, the male student gave him a friendly nod before leaving with a document in hand.
“Eh? Hikigaya, you seem to be quite familiar with Handa-kun?”
Akane was a little surprised by what she had just witnessed.
Hikigaya nodded. “Handa-senpai sometimes has to deal with matters between students and clubs, so over time, we got to know each other.”
“I see. But Handa-kun has always been a bit of a loner. Even among the current second-years, not many people talk to him. Yet, you—a first-year—can get along with him so well. That’s quite unexpected.”
Akane was astonished.
“Uh… maybe it’s because we have similar personalities?”
Hikigaya scratched his head. “Or maybe it’s just because I’m from Class D, so he’s more willing to talk to me.”
Akane nodded. “That makes sense. Handa-kun also moved up from Class D to Class C, so that might be part of the reason.”
Handa Seishuu, from Class 3-C, was a member of the student council primarily responsible for handling and coordinating club-related affairs.
“Speaking of which, our school’s student council really has very few members, huh?”
Hearing Hikigaya’s comment, Akane gave a bitter smile. “It can’t be helped. Our school’s student council is different from those at ordinary schools—having more members would actually be troublesome. So, a lot of things have to be done personally, especially by you first-years. You all have it rough.”
Indeed, Advanced Nurturing High School had a very small student council: one president, two vice presidents, a main secretary, and a deputy secretary. Including Hikigaya and Yukinoshita Haruno, there were only four regular student council members, each with different responsibilities. In total, the entire student council had just nine people.
Hikigaya often complained that Haruno not only skipped duty but also dumped all her work onto him. However, he was aware that Haruno was responsible for handling matters between the student council and the school administration. Meanwhile, Handa-senpai focused on club affairs.
The remaining members included a second-year female student who, like Hikigaya, handled various miscellaneous tasks. However, she was responsible for second-year affairs, while Hikigaya was assigned to first-year affairs. In essence, they were like the “bricks” of the student council—placed wherever needed.
So… how was this any different from the “odd jobs” he used to do under Iroha?!
Currently, the position of deputy secretary remained vacant. According to Akane, the previous holder of this position was a third-year student from Class B, but they voluntarily resigned for some reason. As a result, the student council now had only eight members.
Over the past month or so, Hikigaya had gradually familiarized himself with the operations of the student council. At the same time, he had begun to sense a certain discord within its structure.
Among the third-years, the president, Horikita Manabu, and the main secretary, Tachibana Akane, clearly held the real decision-making power.
Among the second-years, the vice presidents, Nagumo Miyabi and Kiriyama Ikuto, were supposedly responsible for second-year affairs. However, Hikigaya rarely saw these two “big shots” in the student council office, nor did he hear Horikita or Akane mention them often. Their presence was almost nonexistent.
Among the first-years, there was Haruno and Hikigaya, with most of the groundwork falling onto Hikigaya’s shoulders. Of course, as his “direct supervisor,” Akane would help out, but overall, the bulk of execution-level tasks were handled by Hikigaya.
At first glance, everything seemed reasonable. But upon closer inspection, a strange issue emerged—why did the second-years have almost no presence in the student council? It was as if they were operating autonomously, separate from the rest.
The vice presidents handled second-year affairs, and President Horikita barely interfered. In contrast, he paid a lot of attention to first-year affairs.
Thinking further, another suspicious point became evident—why were both vice presidents second-years? If the goal was to maintain a balance between grade levels, that might be acceptable. But what truly puzzled Hikigaya was the distribution of power among the third-years. From a structural perspective, it would make the most sense for at least one vice president to be a third-year.
A simple deduction followed: when Horikita’s term ended, the presidency would likely be contested between Nagumo and Kiriyama. Even if one lost, they would still retain the vice president position.
So…
“Akane-senpai, I have a question—how many vice presidents did the student council originally have?”
Hikigaya asked curiously.
Tachibana Akane’s pen suddenly stopped as she looked at Hikigaya in surprise. “You… why are you asking this question?”
Seeing Akane’s expression, Hikigaya had a vague sense of the answer. He tested the waters, “Three? Or has it always been just two?”
Akane gave her junior a complex look, seemingly at a loss for words. After a moment of contemplation, she finally said, “Hikigaya, you’ve noticed something, haven’t you?”
“I’m just a little curious.”
“If you check the past student council records, you’ll find out… It’s on the third row of the bookshelf, the seventh book.”
As she spoke, an inexplicable expression crossed Akane’s face. “This is what the president instructed me to tell you—if you ever asked this question, I was to give you this answer.”
“Eh?”
Hikigaya was momentarily stunned. He nodded with a slightly strange expression, but inside, he sighed deeply. This school really didn’t have a single place that was simple. It seemed even the student council was full of hidden undercurrents.
…
Night had fallen. After spending two and a half hours on duty in the student council office, Hikigaya had dinner at the school cafeteria and then returned to his dormitory. Just as he opened the door, a sudden force from behind sent him stumbling inside. At the same time, the door slammed shut with a loud bang.
Hikigaya turned around in shock, pointing at the girl who had forcefully grabbed the doorknob. Her smooth, golden hair was now slightly disheveled, and her usually bright, crystal-like eyes were bloodshot. An ominous, indescribable aura seemed to be emanating from her entire body.
“K-Kushida?!”
The girl who had suddenly “attacked” him from behind and “invaded” his dorm was none other than Kushida Kikyo, who had clearly been waiting for him for a long time!
“Hehe, Hikigaya… I’ve finally waited for you to come back!”
A creepy smile spread across Kushida’s face, and her voice was chilling to the bone.
Damn, where was the “little angel” act? This was clearly a demon!
