There is something wrong with Hikigaya’s classroom of the Elite, as expected

Chapter 100

Chapter 100: A Different Kind of Daily Life

“Hey, Kanji, good morning.”

“Yo, Ken, why are you here so early today?”

“Hey, have you seen Kikyo this morning?”

Yamauchi, who entered the classroom following Sudo, asked instinctively.

“No, I haven’t. I even bought a special breakfast for Kikyo.”

Ike also looked puzzled.

“What?! Kanji, you just told me yesterday that you were completely broke, and now you have money to buy breakfast? No way, that breakfast is mine now!”

The class was already used to the rowdy antics of the monkey duo. However, just as Ike and Yamauchi had mentioned, Kikyo usually arrived at the classroom with a group of girls. But today, she only rushed in right before class started.

After class, Wang Mei-yu, Inogashira, and others, who were on good terms with Kikyo, gathered around to check on her.

“Kikyo-chan, you don’t look well. Are you sick?”

“Yeah… If you’re not feeling well, we can take you to the infirmary.”

Kikyo waved her hand and showed her usual sunny smile. “Don’t worry, I just had trouble sleeping last night. It’s not a big deal.”

More girls came to express their concern, and after they left, the monkey duo and other boys rushed forward as well, as if trying to establish their image as “considerate and gentle guys” in Kikyo’s heart.

“Kikyo, is it that time of the month? You should drink more hot water!”

“Kikyo, take care of yourself. Want a cheesecake? I can go buy one right now!”

A group of boys chattered around Kikyo, a scene that had become routine. Even though she inwardly cursed them hundreds of times, Kikyo still maintained her bright and sunny smile, as if it didn’t bother her at all.

“She must be exhausted, living like this.”

Watching this familiar daily scene from a distance, Hikigaya couldn’t help but recall Kikyo’s true personality from last night. He had to admire her—after all, her everyday life was a miracle created from suppressing her true thoughts over and over again.

Wearing a mask at all times, dealing with a bunch of brainless fools who could make anyone lose their mind… No wonder she needed to vent like she did last night. Even a trash can has a limit before it overflows. If she kept suppressing herself, the pressure would eventually crush her.

But Hikigaya had no intention of judging or interfering with other people’s lives. After all, everyone had their own way of surviving.

After finally getting rid of Ike, Yamauchi, and the others, Kikyo instinctively glanced in Hikigaya’s direction.

The moment she saw him, memories of last night and all the frustration from an entire night of distress surged up at once. She glared at Hikigaya fiercely, but the next second, her expression returned to normal.

Hiss!

That… That was a terrifying look!

Hikigaya felt a chill down his spine and quickly picked up a book to cover his face. So what if I saw something I shouldn’t have? So what if I touched something I shouldn’t have? Does she really have to hold a grudge over it?!

Damn, this big-breasted airhead!

More importantly, Hikigaya Hachiman was completely passive the entire time!

Just then, his phone vibrated.

[Friend Request Received]

It was sent through the class group chat system. Class D had a group chat where every student was added, though Hikigaya had muted it completely. In reality, this so-called “class group” was mostly symbolic—almost no one actually chatted in it, as students had their own private group chats. It was an unspoken rule.

Of course, the monkey duo was an exception. They seemed to treat the class chat as their personal flirtation space, and their ridiculous messages since the start of the semester were all still recorded in the chat history.

[A Midsummer Night’s Dream] has sent a friend request.

If he remembered correctly… Hikigaya instinctively looked up at someone, and his eyes met Kikyo’s. She was still wearing that familiar, warm, and lively smile—adorable and full of energy. But to Hikigaya, it was nothing short of terrifying.

Then, his phone vibrated again. [Friend Request Received]

Hikigaya had already rejected it once, but the requests kept flooding in like snowflakes. He almost thought his phone had been hacked!

The next second, Hikigaya decisively shoved his phone into the desk drawer and pretended nothing had happened. He picked up the latest light novel he had bought from the convenience store and started reading, completely ignoring the little angel not far away, who was practically radiating dark energy.

Even from the corner of his eye, Hikigaya noticed that his deskmate was also reading a book. Sakura… No, wait, it’s Horikita.

He knew Horikita was a book lover. Like him, she had almost no social connections, always sitting alone and choosing books as her escape into another world.

She was currently reading a literary classic—Dostoevsky’s Demons. If he remembered correctly, last time it was Crime and Punishment. Hikigaya found it surprising that Horikita was so into Russian literature.

But wasn’t Demons a bit too “intense” and “extreme” for her?

Well, Hikigaya had done something similar before. There was a phase where he sought out the most radical, obscure, and unconventional books, deliberately avoiding mainstream, widely loved novels. He thought it made him stand out, proving that he was different from those around him.

Looking back now, he found it somewhat embarrassing and ridiculous. He had claimed he didn’t want to compromise with anyone, yet all he had done was desperately prove to others that he wasn’t compromising. How ironic.

Noticing his gaze, Horikita slightly furrowed her brows. However, unlike before—when she was ice-cold and completely indifferent to everyone—her expression now seemed a little softer, though it still carried a strong sense of rejection.

Realizing that staring was rude, Hikigaya was about to look away when Horikita suddenly spoke.

“Hikigaya.”

“Hm?”

Hikigaya was surprised. But then, he noticed that Horikita wasn’t looking at him—she was looking at the cover of his book.

Haha, no way. It must be my imagination. There’s no way the Ice Queen would be interested in—

“Where did you buy that book?”

“……”

Hikigaya blinked, thinking he had misheard. Horikita’s face also froze for a moment, as if she had instinctively spoken her thoughts aloud. Fortunately, her expression remained unreadable.

“I-I was just curious. The convenience stores I pass by never seem to stock those kinds of books.”

“It’s the convenience store near the teacher’s dormitory. That’s the only one selling the latest volumes of light novels.”

Hikigaya answered casually, not thinking much of it.

“I see…”

Horikita nodded in realization, then frowned slightly. “Teacher’s dormitory?”

Hikigaya’s expression stiffened. Damn it, I shouldn’t have said that!

“I got lost on campus when school started and accidentally ended up there,” he quickly lied.

“Oh.”

Horikita didn’t press further and returned to her book. Seeing that she didn’t seem suspicious, Hikigaya sighed in relief.

Just as he was about to continue reading, he glanced at the cover of his own book and fell into deep thought.

Volume 3 of “My Little Sister Can’t Be My Girlfriend”… Now on sale.
