Chapter 125 - Attack
In the afternoon, all Jiang Hui could say was that she ran to her heart’s content.
Instructor Stark was someone who meant what he said. There was almost no possibility of him joking; when he said a hundred laps, he meant a hundred laps. He had nearly watched Jiang Hui run for the entire afternoon and refused to let up even when class was over.
Jiang Hui finally realized that he was serious today, probably out of anger. So, while everyone else rushed to the cafeteria to eat after class, she had to run under Stark’s stern gaze while pitifully sipping on nutritional liquid.
This nutritional liquid was indeed hard to swallow—yuck! It was her first time trying it, and it was so awful it nearly made her want to vomit. Powdered medicine mixed with water probably tasted better. It was only useful for quickly filling her stomach a little.
However, this stuff wasn’t cheap; due to its functional nature, it didn’t compare to what one might expect from a substitute meal, and it was probably even more expensive than a burger from a roadside stand. The only commendable aspect was that it had relatively high and balanced nutritional values. Jiang Hui once again confirmed that it would be nearly impossible to pursue a culinary path in this interstellar world.
Moreover, if the plain flavor was this hard to tolerate, what kind of hellish taste would it have when trying to make it fruity, vegetable-flavored, or meaty…? Just imagining those flavors made Jiang Hui shudder, and she decided to quickly banish the thought of this disgusting thing from her mind, lest she end up vomiting the tube of liquid she had just consumed.
Perhaps to supervise her, Instructor Stark had not left and continued to run alongside her.
As Jiang Hui ran, she felt a bit embarrassed. She thought that rather than punishing her, it was more like he was punishing himself along with her. Who punishes someone else while standing by, hungry and suffering? He really had good intentions.
Jiang Hui felt even more embarrassed.
However, Stark was ultimately a commissioned officer; even though he was assigned to teach at Beska Intermediate Academy, he still had military duties. The other instructors were the same; they all had specific tasks they needed to perform.
At that moment, Instructor Stark suddenly received a communication. Whatever was said on the other end made his expression, which rarely changed even in the face of a mountain collapse, suddenly shift to one of severity.
He then told Jiang Hui, who was still focused on running, “Run ten more laps, and then you can go back. You can make up the rest tomorrow.”
Jiang Hui had already run nearly seventy laps, so running ten more would make it eighty, leaving twenty laps to be completed tomorrow. Hearing his words, it seemed like she was almost done? There would be no more punishment… With that thought, she couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief and nodded in acknowledgment.
He immediately left the training ground.
It was now close to seven o’clock, and the sky had darkened. If Jiang Hui ran another ten laps, it would be around eight o’clock, which wasn’t too late.
To be honest, Instructor Stark’s nearly affectionate behavior put a lot of pressure on her; she preferred running like this more freely.
Well, she knew it was somewhat ungrateful to think that way, but… hmm?
Jiang Hui felt a bit puzzled, her thoughts abruptly stopping as she paused and turned her head to look around.
There was nothing.
It was currently military training season. To ensure that the freshmen could train in a relatively quiet environment, the school had imposed restrictions on second and third-year students, prohibiting their entry to the training grounds. Therefore, only freshmen could visit the training grounds during this month.
Moreover, the burden on freshmen from various majors during military training was quite heavy. They were all adapting to the intensity of the training, and extra training was practically impossible and unrealistic, at least not something they should be doing at the moment. As a result, many would head back to their dorms to rest as soon as classes were over, conserving their energy to participate in the next day’s training in the best possible condition.
At this moment, Jiang Hui was the only one still running laps in the SI2 training ground. There were two students in the northwest corner of the training field practicing specialized skills, but they also seemed to be packing up to leave.
Although there was less pressure without an instructor watching, the lack of supervision also meant less self-discipline, and people tended to lower their own standards… Jiang Hui hadn’t yet reached that point, so after gritting her teeth for an hour, she had only managed seven laps.
Just three more laps; she just needed to hang in there. Jiang Hui reassured herself.
Finally—
The girl, panting heavily, took big strides past the finish line of the last lap. Through her sweat, she glanced at the cap that had fallen several meters away and was about to bend down to pick it up.
Suddenly, a sharp whoosh of wind rushed through the air, and Jiang Hui felt something aimed directly at her face. Instinctively, she protected her head, trying to shield herself from this unexpected attack.
However, as she was bent over, her center of gravity was not as stable as when she was standing, combined with the brutal force of the incoming blow. Jiang Hui barely managed to shield her head from the fierce impact, but it still struck her at an awkward angle.
The off-target attack scraped harshly across her cheek, causing that area to feel numb, followed by a sharp, stinging pain. To make matters worse, the blow landed squarely in her abdomen, causing her internal organs to jolt, and her stomach throbbed with intense pain.
After kicking her, the assailant ruthlessly switched legs and attempted to kick her in the solar plexus. Jiang Hui initially didn’t react quickly enough, as the attack was unexpected; she had only managed to dodge the first kick due to her hard training over the past few days.
However, this time, her brain had instinctively formed a command to evade the attack, but it was already too late to escape due to her position…
If you want to kick her, fine, but you should also pay the price! With the courage to come at her, let’s see if she wouldn’t tear this leg off!
Determined, Jiang Hui charged toward the kick. As she did, she swiftly moved her hands in front of her abdomen and clamped down on the assailant’s ankle, gripping it tightly and pulling back with all her might.
Although this method of blindly flailing had the cost of completely losing her own center of gravity and balance, causing her to fall backward and crash to the ground, the leg of the assailant, which she held tightly and couldn’t shake off, was also pulled forward by her fall.
No matter how strong the assailant was, they only had one leg left to support themselves. As Jiang Hui yanked on it, the force caused the other person to lose their balance, and at that moment, they both fell backward uncontrollably, hitting the ground hard.
In fact, due to the angle of their fall, the assailant’s back hit the ground before hers did. Jiang Hui’s final tug had caused the full weight of the assailant’s body to crash down as well.
Hearing the other person cry out in pain, Jiang Hui, gritting her teeth in agony, thought to herself, “You know what pain is? I’m in pain too!”
