Chapter 119 - Xierman
Thanks to this young master, Jiang Hui actually visited the second-floor cafeteria for the first time. It seemed that she hadn’t been here since the start of school.
She naturally followed him into the second-floor cafeteria, looking around and feeling quite certain that her previous hesitation about entering out of curiosity was justified, as there were indeed very few people here.
Although it was the same size as the first floor, the decoration was completely different; with small tables for sharing meals, it felt more like a restaurant.
As soon as they entered, someone immediately led them to an appropriate table. Without asking what they wanted to eat, they just inquired about any dietary restrictions and then returned to the kitchen to prepare their meals.
So this was the daily set meal, with different dishes prepared by the chef each day, meaning there was no need to order. However, the prices were probably considerable; otherwise, there wouldn’t be so few people here.
Retracting her gaze from her surroundings, Jiang Hui finally focused on the person in front of her.
“Is your shoulder feeling better?” Jiang Hui politely asked.
He seemed a bit surprised that this was the first question Jiang Hui asked him, and he immediately replied happily, “I’m fine, I’ve been better for a while now.” The doctor had adjusted it a bit, and it was his father’s blows that took several hours to recover from.
He knew that Jiang Hui was not as cold as she appeared. Xierman really wanted to be friends with Jiang Hui but was a bit worried about being rejected. Right now, Jiang Hui’s initiative to show concern gave him a lot of confidence.
…In fact, she was just asking a simple question. Jiang Hui really wanted to say that Xierman was completely misunderstanding her.
However, with Jiang Hui initiating the conversation, Xierman seemed encouraged and started talking about various topics, like when Jiang Hui woke up, when she would return to training with the team, when she would be fully healed, and also inquiring about how Instructor Mace was doing…
Seeing that Jiang Hui showed no signs of impatience, Xierman couldn’t help but complain about how his father had scolded him severely when he found out about his actions.
Friend, do you really think your behavior shouldn’t have been reprimanded? Jiang Hui thought to herself, puzzled.
She even felt that the scolding was warranted; the kid really needed to be taught a lesson. Otherwise, he might cause even bigger problems down the line.
But then she reconsidered and thought she might be being too harsh. After all, if it weren’t for his reckless actions, they might not have been able to bring Instructor Mace out alive.
So while there were mistakes, what was done was done; it was now part of the past. She just needed to reflect on her own issues and didn’t need to delve into who was right or wrong.
What concerned Jiang Hui more was where Xierman had gotten that grip device. She had searched for it online later and found that it was quite expensive—not something an ordinary person could easily obtain.
Xierman mentioned that his father had put another lock on the family’s arsenal. So how did Xierman manage to get that grip device from his heavily secured home?
Hesitatingly, he scratched his head and said, “I borrowed it from the gardener’s tool shed when the person in charge happened to be sick and on leave.”
However, he later learned that the grip device was actually something that was about to be scrapped. The gardener felt it was too wasteful to throw away such a good item, especially since there was a steep area in the back mountain that needed work done, so he kept it. Little did he know, before they could even use it, Xierman had taken it away…
Jiang Hui’s face turned dark. So you’re telling me we were running around the mountain with a defective item that could fail at any moment? Is that why it suddenly got jammed towards the end? It seems like the prerequisites for our miraculous success that day just keep piling up. She really felt that their ability to accomplish what they did that day was a blessing from the heavens.
Student, do you now realize just how reckless you are? The term “troublemaker” is practically made for you.
Realizing his own irresponsibility, Xierman was suddenly too embarrassed to look Jiang Hui in the eye.
“Xierman, I think… there are some things you should think through clearly before doing them in the future. This lesson has already been enough.”
Actually, she shouldn’t be the one to remind him. After all, they had only met once before and couldn’t even be considered friends. Saying this seemed a bit nosy, but since they had shared a life-and-death experience together, Jiang Hui thought it was better to offer a reminder.
Who would have thought that this young master, whose appearance and speech clearly reflect his privileged background, wouldn’t get angry? Instead, he nodded in shame, as if he understood.
Jiang Hui was suddenly a bit confused. Was this guy usually so well-behaved? But how could he act like such a troublemaker when it came to doing things?
After some exchanges, this overly enthusiastic Xierman seemed to think that he and Jiang Hui had become great buddies, and he just couldn’t stop talking.
Every time Jiang Hui replied with a sentence, he would respond with ten. Their conversation was lively, and anyone looking at them from the outside would think they were exceptionally compatible.
But only Jiang Hui, the person involved, was bewildered, not knowing when she had gained such a close friend.
“…You’re only 13 years old.” Jiang Hui accurately caught this piece of information from something he said.
In this interstellar context, the level of intermediate academies is roughly equivalent to high schools on Blue Star, and the age of admission is usually based on when individuals awaken. Students typically start school around the time of their second awakening.
Although Jiang Hui had some minor issues during her awakening, starting school at her age is quite common because her first awakening wasn’t particularly early or late. Most students entering intermediate academies are around this age.
But starting school at 13… wouldn’t that be a bit too early according to the cycles? By that calculation, Xierman must have had his first awakening at least five years prior, and his second awakening had to have occurred earlier than the nine-year cycle for him to enroll at such a young age.
Jiang Hui, feeling curious, asked him. Sure enough—
“Oh, I had my first awakening quite early, around the age of 3, and then I had my second awakening six months ago. So even though it was a bit early, I’ve already met the requirements to attend an intermediate academy,” Xierman said rather casually.
Great. Awakening at 3 and having a second awakening at 13… definitely a genius child, and he is indeed two years younger than her.
At that age, isn’t he basically just a primary school graduate?! She seemed to understand his somewhat immature actions from earlier.
He continued, “My father said I wasn’t mature enough. He originally planned to wait another two years before sending me, but my mother thought I was too noisy at home, so as soon as I met the conditions this year, she sent me here.”
Jiang Hui really wanted to say… actually, your dad is right. It’s not just that you’re immature; it seems like your mental maturity hasn’t fully developed either! He clearly sounds like a kid who causes a ruckus at home, and it seems his mother couldn’t handle him anymore, so she just sent him off to school to get some proper education.
