The Strongest Brain in the Interstellar

Chapter 118 - Speculations

Well, a person can’t just completely give up like that; even if one is going to be a slacker, they might as well be a somewhat useful one. This is just the basic quality expected of Jiang Hui as an office worker.

So, she silently accepted Instructor Stark’s invisible extra training and “exploitation,” and she became increasingly adept at handling it.

In fact, the results were quite impressive; after a full day of training, she still had the energy to get up from the ground by herself and prepare to head to the cafeteria for something to eat.

After packing her things, Jiang Hui made her way to the cafeteria alone.

It wasn’t that she didn’t want to find companions. It was just that she felt as though, perhaps due to her age, she had somewhat forgotten how to make friends. Moreover, she was faced with a group of real kids, and it seemed like they just couldn’t connect on any level.

Children’s likes and dislikes are often fleeting; what excites them one moment can easily fade away the next.

School had been in session for more than half a month now. Everyone trained together in the mornings and evenings, and so much had happened that, even if she couldn’t find like-minded friends, it should still be easy to find a few temporary partners to team up with.

Although they were all still getting to know each other and couldn’t be considered close friends, that’s how it is with strangers. There’s a process of mutual testing and familiarization before deciding whether to become friends or foes. This is also the first hurdle an individual faces when entering a new group.

However, even within a group, there are still a small number of people who neither seek like-minded friends nor fit in well. Most of the time, they go about their activities alone and aren’t very familiar with their classmates. Such individuals exist, and Clarens is one of them, as is Jiang Hui.

Although the former is solitary, he is exceptional in terms of talent, comes from a good family, and has striking looks. Naturally, people are drawn to someone like him no matter where he is. Many in the class want to be friends with this handsome and highly capable student, but he doesn’t seem very interested in that.

On the other hand, Jiang Hui is entirely detached from the group. It’s not that she’s deliberately distancing herself; she used to be quite sociable when she worked on Blue Star. Now, however, the change in environment and her sense of not fitting in have created this feeling of separation.

Moreover, the increasing training tasks placed on her daily consume a lot of her time and energy, leaving her with little opportunity to make friends. So, she continued in this state.

Thus, after more than half a month of school, Jiang Hui often went about her activities alone and hadn’t gotten to know even one or two classmates well. So when someone called her name from behind, she didn’t immediately respond.

“Jiang!”

Huh? Jiang Hui was a bit puzzled and instinctively turned to look at the source of the persistent calling, only to see a somewhat unexpected face.

Isn’t this the classmate, Xierman, who helped carry the instructor back with her a few days ago? The two people next to him also look a bit familiar; they seem to be classmates from her class.

Uh, this combination is a bit strange.

However, seeing the “comrades-in-arms” she had just shared hardships with not long ago, Jiang Hui didn’t feel as happy as others might expect. She simply paused her steps, turned slightly, and quietly looked at Xierman, waiting for him to explain his purpose.

Xierman didn’t mind Jiang Hui’s somewhat indifferent demeanor at all, as he remembered that she had always been this way since they met.

If someone who didn’t know her saw her, they would surely think she was hard to approach. But after that day’s incident, he understood better than anyone that her heart was clearly different from how she presented herself to the outside world. He felt that Jiang Hui possessed an unparalleled sense of reliability and trustworthiness.

After she fainted that day, he had wanted to go check on her. However, his family arrived so quickly that he didn’t have the chance to find out what was going on before they whisked him away from the school. After that, Xierman found himself caught up in an endless series of check-ups with the family doctor, leaving him with no time to deal with the remaining mess at school.

Moreover, he was also facing the wrath of his father. His father discovered that he had secretly brought a grip device to school and had used it without any experience. Both of these things crossed into his father’s forbidden territory, and Xierman naturally received a severe reprimand and a good beating.

If it weren’t for the military training still not being over and the special healing medicine his uncle the doctor had prepared for him, Xierman felt he might have to lie down until the military training ended. There was no way he could be lively and chat with Jiang Hui here.

As soon as today’s training finished, he couldn’t wait to come to this class next door to find Jiang Hui.

Xierman politely thanked the two people who had helped him with directions and then rushed over to speak to Jiang Hui, completely oblivious to the sudden change in expression on the faces of those two as he left them behind without hesitation.

Jiang Hui noticed this and felt a headache coming on. Although she hadn’t quite figured out his intentions, she sensed that things were becoming a bit tricky; it seemed she had inadvertently gotten herself into some trouble.

Clearly, in Xierman’s mind, their shared adventure had forged a deep bond, and they were good friends who needed to get to know each other better.

Jiang Hui: …she really didn’t feel that way; they weren’t that familiar!

Unfortunately, she ultimately couldn’t resist and was nearly dragged along by this overly friendly person toward the cafeteria, leaving with a look that was both helpless and a bit powerless.

Meanwhile, the two individuals left behind by Xierman didn’t look so good. They exchanged heavy glances.

The taller, long-faced youth sneered coldly, “It seems our efforts at flattery have only made a wedding dress for someone else; this young master from the Xierman family is quite rude. I thought he was different from those aristocratic young masters, polite and well-mannered. Turns out he’s just another one of them.” He clearly didn’t regard others at all.

“Hey, that sounds a bit harsh. I actually think he has a pretty good temper. Plus, didn’t he say he was looking for our classmate Jiang Hui? You can’t just say it’s a wedding dress or something. Karl, you don’t need to take it too seriously.” The other person seemed a bit unconcerned, only looking at the two from behind with an envious expression.

“I’m telling you, this classmate Jiang Hui must come from a decent background. Just look at the people she knows—there’s Clarens and that young master from the Xierman family. She might be from some noble family too. But it’s hard to find out about these pureblood descendants; they keep a low profile.”

“I think you’re underestimating Jiang Hui’s abilities. You haven’t even mentioned that…” Captain Stark. Isn’t it obvious that he’s been subtly giving her leeway?

So where is the concept of fairness for these aristocratic offspring? They’re just a bunch of parasites relying on their family’s power.
