Chapter 157 - Divine Cat Mii-chan Gains Fame as the Representative of Divine Cat Trading Company
157 Divine Cat Mii-chan Gains Fame as the Representative of Divine Cat Trading Company
“Come one, come all, have a look!”
In front of the Commercial Guild, tents were set up with tables neatly lined up. It had been quite a while since the Commercial Guild held a fish market, so they invited many vendors and chefs, and everyone seemed to be fully energized. The guild staff also helped with the event.
We laid out seafood on ice-covered tables, and Katia wrote the prices on paper and set them down. I felt like a fish vendor. But I wondered, could we really sell at these prices? The prices were more than ten times the purchase cost.
According to Katia, lowering the prices too much could cause trouble with other trading companies. Besides, price negotiations are common when selling, so she assured me these prices were fine. Thus, Katia was in charge of handling the payments.
Mii-chan sat cutely on the accounting desk, focusing on selling the image of the Divine Cat Trading Company as its representative.
Many people were already waiting eagerly, so once we were ready, we opened the market. I was in charge of customer service, listening to requests and taking fish out of Mii-chan’s magical bag when they didn’t fit on the tables.
A surprising number of people showed up. Today was purely for selling fish, and discussions about future transactions would be handled later since there weren’t enough time or people to do everything at once.
I overheard comments about how fresh the fish was and questions about how we managed to transport so much of it. Usually, fish are transported either in carriages with freezers or by merchants with storage skills, making fish very expensive and unaffordable for the average person.
The royal palace even has a dedicated fish transport carriage, and Chef Gilbert from the royal court once mentioned that they don’t worry about costs at all.
Many head chefs from famous restaurants in the capital came, buying large quantities of fish. Most of the customers were from the capital’s restaurants, but there were also brokers and chefs for nobles. Some trading companies specializing in fish were present, but they typically dealt in frozen or dried fish and had limited supplies.
By midday, most of the professional buyers were gone, but plenty of fish remained. At that point, a housewife, who seemed to be out shopping, asked if she could buy some fish. After confirming with the Commercial Guild, we decided to sell to her.
Seeing this, other people started asking to buy fish as well, bringing their own tubs. The area became more crowded than it was in the morning. Although the high-end fish had sold out, there was plenty of affordable fish left, and I began offering discounts to sell everything quickly. High-end merchants and traders usually don’t handle cheaper fish, so this was a rare opportunity for the general public. Even so, the fish were still selling for high prices… Katia, please give them a bigger discount!
With so many customers, Mii-chan was busy charming everyone with her cuteness. By late afternoon, we had nearly sold out. Whatever was left, we could eat ourselves. Mii-chan looked satisfied, as if she had given her all.
This event likely solidified Divine Cat Trading Company’s reputation, with Mii-chan as both its representative and mascot.
After the event, we tallied up the sales in a room at the Commercial Guild and paid taxes. Even after that, we made a profit of six million ret. The initial investment had been around 800,000 ret, so we were thrilled.
The staff at the Commercial Guild were delighted with the large-scale event, saying it restored the guild’s reputation. They even thanked Divine Cat Trading Company, with Mii-chan proudly basking in the praise.
On the way back, we stopped by Wheeler’s Tool Shop to introduce Katia to Schwarze and gave him some leftover fish. It wasn’t much, but he was really happy.
From the next day onward, our mornings were spent meeting with people interested in regular fish trade deals, handled by Katia, and in the afternoons, we helped with unpacking at Wheeler’s Tool Shop, leading to busy but fulfilling days.
Then one day, Yuri and Kai visited, bringing an unexpected guest.
“This is a grand mansion,” said the guest.
“I had no idea Nero was this rich,” added Kai, as Mii-chan and the others showered him with affection. Yuri seemed to have the day off. The guest was none other than Luu-san, also known as Luchiru from Roar of the Azure Dragon.
“Man, this place doesn’t suit me,” Luu said.
He had apparently taken a personal request to hunt goblins but found the atmosphere too grim and canceled the job. He also tried exploring a labyrinth with Fangs of the Dark, but without a mapper and with monsters becoming stronger in the lower levels, they abandoned the effort.
With the Hunter Guild now prioritizing rock lizard hunts on the second floor over exploration due to the ongoing goblin war, Luu decided to come to the capital and consult with Yuri.
“Things are crowded with hunters and mercenaries over there. I thought I’d take on requests and earn some money here, but Yuri brought me to you instead.”
“That makes sense. Since Perro and Sera are currently taking on Hunter Guild requests, maybe you could form a party with them until you get used to the capital.”
“Wait, Perro has a Hunter’s license?”
“Yes, Guildmaster Zest from the capital’s Hunter Guild made one for him.”
“Nero, you’ve got some serious connections…”
“There are plenty of rooms, so feel free to pick whichever one you like.”
“Seriously?! Man, inns in the capital are expensive. This really helps!”
“I’m so jealous…”
I told Yuri that if Kai stayed with us, it would make Mii-chan happy, but commuting to the Hunter Guild would be tough since our place is on the outskirts of the capital.
“Give me some time to think!”
I didn’t mind at all. In fact, Mii-chan would be delighted to spend more time with Kai.
“Mii~” Mii-chan purred happily.
