Chapter 149 - Divine Cat Mii-chan Really Loves Pat-san's Ears.
149 Divine Cat Mii-chan Really Loves Pat-san’s Ears.
The next morning was a scene of utter devastation, as expected.
Ignoring the bodies strewn about, I led my team deeper into the cave.
For now, I’ll try flying solo.
Using the teleportation device, I found myself standing in front of the stables at the Wilhelm branch. I looked around, but since it was just after dawn, no one was around. This place isn’t visible from the street, so it should be fine.
I teleported back to Brocken Mountain’s cave and this time flew with everyone. It worked just fine. Now, if I can fly from Beruna to Brocken Mountain, I’ll be able to travel back and forth, even if I can’t teleport directly to Wilhelm.
“Mii~”
“As the princess said, it’s incredible, nya.”
Perro was right—this AF is seriously amazing.
“Oh, you’ve come back.”
“It was for testing the AF. How’s it going on your end?”
“Everything’s fine.”
“Busy enough to be overwhelming.”
It seemed Alex and Claudia had come to prepare for the stall.
“The next time we’ll meet is probably after I arrive in Beruna.”
“I see. Well, things are going smoothly here, so it’s all good.”
“Don’t worry, leave it to us.”
“Yes, I trust you. I’ll be coming again for further AF testing.”
Now, let’s head back. I’ll stop by Pat-san’s place and leave him a gift.
“Oh, Nero-san, Mii-chan, welcome, woof!”
As usual, Pat-san’s ears are fluffy. Mii-chan leapt onto Pat-san, rubbing against his ears, clearly very fond of them. For some reason, Ral-kun also jumped onto Pat-san and began nibbling on his other ear, opposite Mii-chan. I’m a bit envious…
“It’s like I’ve got new friends, woof. They’re good kids, woof.”
“Mii~”
“Kyuu~”
I had Mii-chan take out the gift of fish. After starting a fire in the square, we began grilling skewers, and soon the Kobold children gathered around excitedly.
Since we couldn’t eat all the fish, the Kobold women started preparing to dry them. I thought they’d discard the guts, but they sautéed them in a frying pan and ate them. According to the Kobolds, the innards are the tastiest part of the fish.
So, I made them miso and soy sauce dips, letting them taste-test. The Kobold women’s ears and tails perked up, and their eyes went wide with excitement. They were so cute that if they were kids, I would’ve hugged them… Of course, I gave them some of the miso and soy sauce, though just a little.
Despite it being midday, it started to feel like a feast. As time passed, more fae folk gathered, and soon it turned into a full-blown festival. Perro was performing belly dances with a frog-like fairy folk—he’s quite skilled. Perro is really multitalented.
Sera sat beside Pat-san, drinking wine together. So, Sera can drink alcohol too, huh?
Mii-chan, Lu-kun, and Ral-kun were playing with the Kobold children around Sumire.
Yes, this is the slow life I’ve been dreaming of. Spending peaceful time with those I care about, sharing smiles, and enjoying ourselves. This is it! This is the slow life I’m aiming for!
But to reach this slow life, there’s still so much I have to do. I can’t give up, so I’ll keep working hard.
And so, the feast lasted late into the night…
The next morning, there were bodies strewn about here as well, and the Kobold women looked on in exasperation. Mii-chan and the others had already eaten breakfast and were happily running around with the children.
Sera seemed to be hungover, stumbling around… I could give her some mineral water, but maybe she should reflect on her actions a bit.
I was chatting with a slightly hungover Pat-san.
“I found everything you asked for, woof. But there’s not much of it, woof. The amount you can gather at once is small, woof.”
“That’s understandable. If you take too much, the next generation won’t have a chance to grow.”
“Exactly, woof. That’s why we’ve decided to work together and prepare the area to help things grow better, woof. If we all work to our strengths, I think we can grow plenty, woof.”
“That sounds great. If you can divide the roots or collect seeds, you could even start a field somewhere.”
“That’s a good idea, woof! It’d be easier to take care of if it’s near the village, woof. We’ll give it a try, woof.”
I took the small sample they had gathered to compare it with a book. I’ll have Director Patrick from the pharmacology institute take a look. Pat-san and the others asked to borrow the book for a little longer, so I decided to leave it with them for now.
The fae folk are naturally curious, so they’re always eager for knowledge. Next time, I’ll bring them some books. When I gave them a book I’d finished reading, they were thrilled.
When I asked the other fae folk what they wanted, they mentioned everyday items, as well as more advanced things like stoves and lamps. It seems that, regardless of race, convenience is universally appreciated.
Interestingly, they also wanted paper and pens. Writing things down to preserve them for future generations, or to communicate thoughts—it has many uses. It would also be useful for the kids’ studies. I wonder if the bookstore sells textbooks?
It would be great if they could acquire enough knowledge to improve their standing and eventually integrate into human society. Don’t you think so, Mii-chan?
“Mii~”
