Chapter 121 - Divine Cat Mii-chan Finds Foster Parents for Kittens
121 Divine Cat Mii-chan Finds Foster Parents for Kittens
Wow, it’s been lively both day and night. There’s hardly a moment to rest. These kittens are so energetic that they’re never still unless they’re asleep.
Even during breakfast with Yuri-san, it was a noisy meal.
The moment Yuri-san saw these four adorable kittens, her cheeks flushed as she hugged them tightly. After breakfast, she even said she wanted to go to the Hunter Guild to play with the kittens. Are you sure you don’t need sleep?
When we arrived at the Hunter Guild, Yan and four other boys and girls were waiting for us.
“Good morning. I’m counting on you today.”
“Good morning, Nero-san. We’ll do our best.”
“““““We’ll do our best!””””
“As you might have heard, we’ll mainly be collecting goblin cores. We’ve prepared knives here for you, and I’d like each of you to use one as a gift. Lunch will be provided at the tavern here as well.”
There were exclamations of surprise from everyone, including the hunters nearby. They looked enviously at the apprentice hunters—come on, you guys, act your age.
“Nero-kun, you’re here. We’ve reserved a spot for you, so ask the person in charge… Wait, what are those kittens?!”
Pamiru-san snatched up the kittens.
“Good grief, it’s noisy this morning.”
“Guild Master! Let’s keep cats here too! At the Quinto Guild, they keep cats for workplace stability and improved efficiency. Quarto Guild also saw results when they temporarily hired Mii-chan as a mascot!”
The guild staff seemed to be listening with great interest.
“I don’t mind, but what about the cats you’ll be keeping?”
“Nero-kun! I want those kittens!”
“You can’t just take them… They’re not objects. Besides, the black and white kittens already have foster homes.”
“The calico and the black-and-white ones still don’t have homes, right?”
“Well, yes… But who would take care of them? Eva at Quinto took responsibility for them, but…”
“I’ll take care of them!”
“Both of them? Taking care of just one is already difficult, you know?”
“Ugh…”
“Um… If that’s the case, I’ll take one of them.”
At this point, Yuri-san joined the conversation.
“It’s decided then! Guild Master, is that okay?”
“Y-yes. I’ll leave it to Pamiru…”
“Nero-kun!”
“I’ll check with the parents first…”
“Please do it quickly.”
Perro, off you go.
“Sigh… I’ll be right back, nya.”
“Mii~”
Yan and the others were bewildered, not understanding what was going on. Alright, let’s head to the dismantling area. I handed a sheet, blanket, and a basket with the kittens to Yuri-san. Sera and Lu-kun, please take care of them.
“Nya.”
“Woof.”
We headed to the dismantling area and asked the staff for directions.
“They say there’s a lot of them.”
“Yes.”
“The traders are eagerly waiting. It’s been a while since there’s been such a big order.”
Goblins are processed into livestock feed and fertilizer, so there’s a high demand for them. Even in the capital, where there are many hunters, it’s rare for them to bring back whole goblins unless they have storage skills. Traders sometimes search for them the day after hunters have taken them down, but often, other monsters have already taken them.
So, there are hunters who specialize in goblins. They’re called goblin hunters, and it’s a common task for novice hunters.
I handed the dismantling knives to Yan and the others, and they started working. Mii-chan kept bringing out more and more goblins. Yan and the others split into two groups: three to extract cores and two to carry them, rotating their tasks.
While watching Yan and the others work, I wondered how to manage Sumire’s walks. We’ll be working here for the next six days, so I might have to ask Perro for help.
During these six days, I also plan to train the kittens and teach them the Twelve Rules of Being Adorable and Loved by Humans. I have more time compared to when I was training Luca.
As lunchtime approached, I called out to Yan and the others to wash their hands and wait in the tavern.
Where’s Yuri-san? She’s lying down in a sunny spot by the back door of the guild, surrounded by the kittens, Sera, and Lu-kun, looking quite comfortable. I felt bad waking her up. Sera seemed to have noticed me and woke up.
When I called out to Yuri-san, the kittens woke up before her and started scampering around. Mii-chan, Sera, and Lu-kun frantically tried to bring them back.
“Mmm… Good morning… Huh?”
Yuri-san seemed to be half asleep. A black-and-white kitten was clinging to her chest.
“Huh? A kitten…? Ah! Nero-kun…”
It seems she’s fully awake now.
“Um, well, you see…”
“Shall we have lunch?”
“…Yes.”
We put the kittens back in the basket and headed to the tavern. It seems Perro had returned. For some reason, Jin-san was with him too. Since there were many of us, we secured two tables, ordered lunch from the waitress, and prepared cat food and mineral water for Mii-chan and the kittens.
The kittens couldn’t wait and were already digging into their plates.
So, Perro, how did it go?
“I managed to sort it out, nya. The white and black ones will go to the royal palace, and the calico and black-and-white ones will stay at the Hunter Guild. It was really tough, nya…”
“Mii~”
Yes, yes, good job. Please have your lunch. But now, the problem is solved. Yuri-san and Pamiru-san can decide which one to take care of. Since they know the kittens well, I’m sure both will end up in happy homes.
“Mii~”
