Chapter 119 - Divine Cat Mii-chan is angry
119 Divine Cat Mii-chan is angry
We left the Commercial Guild and had lunch at a nearby diner, but the taste was mediocre. It’s tough to find good places on a whim, even though the smell was promising…
After asking for directions at the Commercial Guild, we headed to the Apothecary Guild, which turned out to be quite a modest building.
Upon entering, the scent of medicine filled the air. It seems Mii-chan, Sera, and Lu-kun aren’t too fond of it. Sorry about that.
“What brings you here today?”
“I’ve come to request the purchase of medicinal herbs and other materials.”
“Are you affiliated with our guild or the Commercial Guild?”
“I’m a member of the Commercial Guild.”
I handed over my Commercial Guild ID and the list of materials. The list wasn’t the one Yuri-san had written the prices on, as showing the prices upfront would hinder negotiations.
“May I have some time to verify this?”
“Sure, I’ll be outside, so please call me when you’re ready.”
I stepped outside and basked in the sunlight. The warm rays were a reminder that summer was near.
Mii-chan and Sera took a nap in the sun. I rolled up a piece of cloth and tossed it where it wouldn’t be in the way of passersby. Lu-kun ran after it, huffing and puffing, grabbed it, and brought it back, begging for another throw.
We repeated this game of fetch several times until Lu-kun got tired. I gave him some mineral water to drink when someone called out to me.
I went back inside, retrieved the list and my guild card, and when the receptionist presented the appraisal value on the list… it was a mere 2 million Leto. That’s unacceptable… There’s no way Yuri-san would lie, so it must be that the Apothecary Guild is trying to lowball me.
“2 million Leto… Are you saying this is a fair price?”
“Forgive me, but it seems the Divine Cat Trading Company is newly established. You have no credibility.”
“If I were asking for a loan to buy goods, that might matter. But when I have the goods and am willing to sell, why does credibility matter?”
“Because it’s our policy.”
Ah, the classic “policy” response.
“Then, what constitutes credibility?”
“Being a member of the Commercial Guild for more than five years and having at least thirty transactions with our guild.”
“This is pointless. I’ll take my business elsewhere.”
“But, but… There’s nowhere else that will buy these items!”
“That’s fine. I’ll find another buyer. Good day.”
“W-wait! We can offer a bit more!”
“I won’t sell for less than 10 million Leto.”
“Mii~!”
“…”
Mii-chan is pouting. I understand how you feel, but digging your claws into me hurts, you know?
We left the Apothecary Guild. Now, what should I do? I went through the trouble of joining the Commercial Guild…
“Mii…”
“Nyaa…”
“Gaou…”
Maybe I should consult someone. That would be the Hunter Guild, right?
At the Royal Capital’s Hunter Guild, the only people I know are the Guild Master, Yuri-san, and Pamiru-san, who hasn’t arrived yet.
When I entered the guild, both the Guild Master and Yuri-san were there. I invited them for tea.
“Is it a consultation? I guess I’ll join you.”
I ordered drinks for everyone except Mii-chan and brought out Mii-chan cookies. Mii-chan gets mineral water.
“Oh, this is delicious. So, what’s the issue? It’s not about the seminar, is it?”
I explained what happened earlier to the Guild Master and Yuri-san.
“It’s outrageous that the Apothecary Guild, which should help people, would act this way!”
“The world has truly gone mad…”
“Do you think the Apothecary Guilds in other towns are the same?”
“I don’t think they’re this bad… Do you?”
It seems it’s a common problem. This is troubling. Hmm, I could sell directly to individual apothecaries, but with this quantity, it would be a hassle. Even if I submitted the items through the Hunter Guild, who knows how long it would take to sell everything…
“One option is to sell to state-licensed apothecaries rather than the guild.”
“But wouldn’t dealing with the state be even more complicated?”
“Nero, you have connections, don’t you? Wouldn’t it be faster that way?”
Connections… You mean the Queen, right? I guess I’ll have to ask Pero to find two kittens quickly.
“I’d prefer not to use my connections, but I guess I have no choice. It’s not for personal gain; it’s to help a friend.”
“Mii!”
“Nya!”
“Gaou!”
Exactly, it’s all for Pat-san. I’ll sell everything and get to fluff those fluffy ears!
“Mii…”
Huh? Mii-chan isn’t interested? I thought fluffy ears would feel amazing to touch.
“Mi, mii~”
See? We’ll work hard to sell everything, yay!
Anyway…
“Guildmaster, is it possible to request a personal job?”
“What’s this all of a sudden?”
“I’d like to put in a request for monster dissection.”
“Can’t you do the dissection yourself?”
“Well, I haven’t actually done it before, and there’s a lot of it. Plus, it could be a good earning opportunity for the aspiring hunters.”
“It’s quite regrettable for a hunter to have never done dissection. So, how much are we talking about?”
“Just under three thousand goblins, and about two hundred others. It’s a bit much for one person, right?”
“…”
The Guildmaster and Yuri-san look dumbfounded… Did I say something strange?
“Mii~?”
