The night before the launch was quiet.

Too quiet.

Cricket was still awake, smoking by the dock. The embers of his cigarette flickered in the dark as he stared at the patched-up ship, the modified masts, and the reinforced hull. It looked like a deathtrap ready for a miracle.

Ethan stood beside him, arms crossed.

"You're really doing this," Cricket said, not even turning his head.

"Yeah."

Cricket took another drag, exhaled. "You're either the biggest fool I've met… or something else entirely."

Ethan grinned. "You say that like the two are different."

He turned and walked away without saying more.

The dawn came fast.

Thunder roared across the sea.

They were already out on open waters, sails full and tense. The horizon shimmered with heat and mist, but ahead—rising like a divine fist from the ocean—was the swirling column of water that pierced the clouds.

The Knock-Up Stream.

It was massive. Loud. Violent.

Like a storm trying to claw its way toward heaven.

The ship rocked violently as the currents pulled them in. Kaya clutched the railing, her eyes wide. Vivi stood steady, one hand on the mast. Robin braced herself near the helm.

And Ethan—he stood at the front, coat fluttering, a calm smile on his face.

"This is insane!" Kaya shouted over the roar.

"That's what makes it fun!" Ethan called back.

The ocean pulled.

The sky cracked.

And then—boom—the ship launched upward, swallowed by the current.

Water surged around them like a wall. For a moment, the sky vanished in mist and foam. The ship trembled under the pressure, wood groaning, but held strong. Then they burst into open air.

The sea below vanished.

Clouds surrounded them.

The sky above was… bright.

"Where… are we?" Kaya whispered.

The ship floated—no, drifted—through white clouds that felt soft as snow. But they didn't fall. The clouds held them.

Solid.

Real.

And there it was—a massive floating sea of clouds, islands suspended high above the world, waterfalls that poured into the air, and a giant white gate in the distance.

Heaven's Gate.

They'd made it.

They approached slowly. A lone figure stood at the gate—a woman dressed in white, long silver hair flowing like the wind. She watched them with curious, emotionless eyes.

"Welcome, travelers," she said. "You stand at the entrance to Skypiea."

Ethan stepped forward. "You're the guardian?"

"I am Amazon," she replied. "You may enter… but know this: the land you enter is not ruled by your world's laws. Here, you are judged by the Sky."

Robin tilted her head. "That supposed to be a warning?"

Amazon smiled faintly. "It's not a threat. Just truth."

They passed through.

And then—light.

Endless stretches of cloud islands, strange structures, skyfish swimming lazily through the air, and people with wings on their backs.

The Skypieans.

Vivi gawked at the landscape. "It's real… It's all real."

Kaya turned to Ethan. "You don't seem surprised."

"I'm not."

"Why?"

Ethan shrugged. "Because the world is full of strange things. This is just one more."

Robin smirked. "You sound like you've seen more than this."

"I have."

They docked at Angel Island, the main cloud city, and took their first steps into the floating civilization. The locals were startled—especially by Ethan's bounty poster, which had already reached the sky.

Whispers followed him. Some fearful. Some curious.

He ignored them.

He wasn't here to cause trouble.

But something stirred in the air. A tension. A force watching them—like the island itself was aware of their presence.

As they walked through the white streets, a young boy ran past them, stopped, and pointed.

"You're the new outsiders! Are you going to the Upper Yard?"

Ethan raised an eyebrow. "Upper Yard?"

"The forbidden land!" the boy said excitedly. "Only God Enel can go there!"

Robin exchanged a glance with Ethan. "God, huh?"

Ethan chuckled. "That's always how it starts."

Later, they sat by the edge of the island, legs hanging off the cloud. Below them was nothing but blue sky.

Kaya leaned her head on Ethan's shoulder. "You don't ever hesitate, do you?"

"I do," he replied. "But I don't let it stop me."

Robin didn't smile. She looked toward the clouds, where lightning flickered faintly in the distance.

"Then I hope you're ready," she said. "Because something is waiting in that Upper Yard."
