The gentle rocking of the ship swayed with the rhythm of the evening tide. The desert was far behind now, but the air still carried that dry warmth, even at sea. The moon hung high above, a silver coin in the black velvet sky, casting its soft light across the deck of the ship.
Rael stood near the railing, arms crossed, bare-chested with a fresh bandage across his side from the Crocodile fight. The cool sea breeze flowed across his sculpted body, defined from years of brutal training, the moonlight tracing every line of his physique.
Behind him, soft footsteps echoed from the wooden deck.
"Couldn't sleep?" Kaya's voice was gentle, like a whisper carried on the wind.
Rael glanced back. She wore a long, silk nightgown—simple, yet clinging in just the right places. Her hair was loose for once, flowing freely down her back. The candlelight from the cabins behind her outlined her slender figure with a golden hue.
"I don't sleep much," Rael replied, his voice as low and steady as the ocean.
Kaya stepped beside him, her fingers gently brushing against his arm.
"Is it always like this with you? Always carrying the weight of something?"
He didn't answer right away.
Instead, he turned slightly, facing her. Their eyes locked—hers warm and searching, his guarded but slowly softening.
"I've spent decades fighting," Rael murmured. "Every night, every breath, was for survival. I never thought I'd have… quiet moments like this."
Kaya smiled faintly. "Then maybe it's time you learned how."
Rael let out a small breath—close to a laugh. "You offering to teach me?"
Her fingers trailed down his chest slowly, deliberately.
"I can try."
There was a pause.
And then Rael leaned down, just enough for his forehead to meet hers.
Kaya reached up, cupping his face with both hands. "You saved me. Not just from death… but from wasting my life locked away. I never want to go back to that."
"You won't," he said, voice low. "I'll protect you."
Their lips met—soft at first, exploratory. But the tension that had been building between them for days cracked open like a dam. The kiss deepened, becoming hungry, urgent.
Rael lifted her gently, carrying her below deck into the captain's quarters. The door shut behind them with a quiet thud.
The room was dim, lit only by the glow of a single oil lamp on the desk. The sea outside whispered against the hull. Inside, time seemed to slow.
Rael placed Kaya gently onto the bed, never breaking eye contact.
Kaya looked up at him, her cheeks flushed, her chest rising with each breath. "I've never done this before… not like this."
Rael stroked her cheek, his voice softer than she'd ever heard it. "Then I'll be gentle. Tell me if I need to stop."
She shook her head, pulling him down to her.
Clothes slipped away in the hush of night, one piece at a time. His calloused hands, so strong in battle, were now slow and reverent, tracing every inch of her skin like he was memorizing her.
Kaya gasped softly as their bodies touched, her hands wrapping around his back, fingers digging into him as if grounding herself in the moment.
Rael moved with purpose and patience—his strength evident in every motion, yet his touch was tender. He made no demand; only gave.
She whispered his name like a prayer. He responded with lips brushing her neck, her shoulder, her collarbone.
By the time they joined, there was no space left between them—only fire and soft moans, whispered names and the creaking of wood beneath them.
The ship sailed on through the night.
Later, Kaya rested with her head on Rael's chest, his arms wrapped around her.
Neither spoke for a long time.
But she smiled to herself.
"You weren't gentle," she said, teasingly.
Rael chuckled, brushing hair from her face. "You didn't want gentle, halfway through."
"You're not wrong…"
Then she looked up at him, a small mischievous sparkle in her eyes. "You really do have absurd stamina."
Rael grinned. "You've only seen the beginning."
She flushed crimson but didn't look away. Instead, she curled closer to him, her breath slowing.
"Rael…"
"Hm?"
"I don't mind… if more women end up falling for you. I want to stay with you. Even if I have to share."
He blinked at her in surprise.
"You sure?"
She nodded. "Just… let me be special too. Okay?"
Rael looked at her—this noble girl turned pirate, brave enough to bare more than just her body. She bared her heart.
"You already are."
She smiled as she drifted into sleep.
Rael stayed awake a while longer, holding her close. His eyes looked out the small window of the cabin.
The stars above were different from his old world.
But for once… he didn't mind.
