The Scavenger's code

This startled Zain he smiled nervously. The thought of being killed by a ranker sent him in a cold sweat and of all the rankers a general was just too much for him, it would take the general less than Zain could blink to be killed.

The general continued " I will kill you not because you refused but because the power within you is just too unpredictable, Zain xenos twelve years old. born from a human who turned into an abomination while the father is unknown, the abomination ripped him out of it's belly and died in the process. "

"General is that really necessary....the last part I mean." The sour faced young man, Dan asked.

" I just told him what was written in the file. " The general answered.

" No I already knew, I was told about it countless times by my..... neighbors one could call them " Zain spoke.

Zain stared at the general with his nervous smile and said " i agree to the recruitment I didn't really have anything going for me."

General Garry chuckled revealing his ivory white teeth.

" Alright then, good! But you will have to go through a test.

General Garry made a sinister smile. " you see we need to truly be clear that you are the one we have been looking there for you need to take a small test. Just walk towards the door behind you and escape the room and then you will have passed the test. "

"Will I be a ranker after I complete the test ? " Zain asked now no longer smiling.

" Yes but you will be the weakest ranker both in power and status. But that is to be expected of you since you're a recruit." General Garry said. He lingered for a bit and said.

" Goodluck young Zain "

he switched on the mirror effect and pressed the button that opened the door behind Zain.

Zain stood there looking at the mirror with unsure expression and thought.

' Its just a test, all I need to do is just pass this test and hello good life. Ahh but they could have atleast given me some food I don't think I got to finish that meal ' he sighed and walked towards the door. And left the room he was in only to find himself outside. No it was outside because when he looked to the far sides he could see the reinforced walls.

' what is this place ' he thought as he kept moving forward.

In the observation room everyone present there was attentively staring at the monitor that was above the mirror. Karen looked at general Garry and said. " General, pardon me for speaking out of turn but aren't you expecting too much from a twelve year old boy who as not received any form of education in combat or survival ?"

General Garry looked at karen with a piercing gaze and answered.

" the boy will be fine if he truly is the diamond we have been seeking if not then it's our entertainment." And continued staring at the screen.

Zain was now in a new room but this one was bigger and he could even see the sky because there was no roof. To Zain's surprise he could see the stars a rare sight for him since where he was born and grew up, the outer walls was filled with toxins that polluted the sky and hence prevented a clear sky. Zain had now been walking for twenty minutes and the only saw where huge boulders, and sand every where aside from that they where some ruins.

As Zain was walking he suddenly felt intense bloodlust come from behind him. ' shit what was that !' in that moment Zain felt fear, fear he had never experienced before. He ran to the nearest ruin but before he could even make a step he was slashed in the back by three claws and was flying a few meters in front. Zain crashed into the sand, his mind was disoriented it was filled with pain.

Zain felt the thing that slashed him closing in on him. He dodged the attack by rolling to the side, which bought him a few seconds to properly assess the situation. He looked at the monster that now as his blood at its claws. The monster as a bear with hones on its head the grotesque horns with like those of a bull and it's Maw was oozing white foam. The monster had many scars on its body which made it look fearsome and it had three eyes but the eye on its forehead was damaged and only an empty socket remained.

" These bastards, they want to kill me ! " Zain stood up while panting heavily his gown was now torn and he partially naked. So he ripped the upper part of his gown and used the sleeves to tie to his waist making it a skirt like. The monster charged towards him.

"Come you damned beast ! Come ! " The monster jumped at him with it's claws aiming to impile him. Zain went with the natural flow of his instincts and clashed with the monster he crashed into it and was now on top of he made a fist and made the first strike, then the second and the third, all his punches where aimed at its Maw every punch crashing its Maw and further breaking a bone.

" Food they said! , you will sleep on a bed they said ! " All I want is to live a comfortable life.

" shit is that too much to ask "

he angrily spoke as he hit the monster which was lying lifelessly on the ground.

" My god ! " One of the commanders exclammed.

" He is a monster ! " One of the scientists added.

" We found him indeed " the General spoke.

They all looked at the screen with

complicated emotions and expressions on there faces, some with horror others with disgust.

" How ?! That was a B class monster a horned bear ! How?!" Karen spoke.

No one answered her question because everyone was too absorbed to what was happening on the screen.

Covered in the monsters blood Zain stood up and began to walk towards the distant door he could see.
