Chapter 1288 Meeting the Enemy
Chapter 1288 Meeting the Enemy
Xin examined the remaining pieces of the golem with curiosity, as he had never seen the material covering the Golem's chest before. It was neither bronze nor silver, but it was harder than iron and stronger than steel. Surprisingly, it was also lighter than all of them.
Curious, Zhao Li Xin took a big chunk of the questionable materials to check later, he planned to ask Lory or the blacksmith for he was sure they would be able to recognize what kind of materials it was.
Zhao Li Xin slipped the material into his backpack. Fortunately, even though the material was quite big, it didn't weigh down his backpack. His dark eyes glistened with excitement, he already had an idea of what he would do with this precious material.
Suddenly the place they were standing on suddenly shifted and split, not long after they heard the sound of metals shifting, and then the place they were standing on sank slowly.
[Ma - Master, the floor is collapsing!] The fire spirit circled Zhao Li Xin frantically.
Zhao Li Xin grabbed the fire spirit as it annoyed him [Shut up! the floor didn't collapse...I think...] only some areas around Zhao Li Xin's stand sank while the rest of the floor remained still.
The floor is descending at a steady speed without the help of chains or pulleys to make it go down, is it possible that the floor is supported by something underneath that is making it go down? As an armament Master, he was curious about how this thing worked, well actually many objects and tools in this world made him curious but unfortunately, Lory always forbade him whenever he wanted to dismantle all those objects.
Zhao Li Xin sighed with a slightly disappointed flash in his eyes, later on, he lifted his head to see how far they went down, it seemed it went deeper than he thought because he could no longer see the top.
[Master, where do you think this is going?] The fire spirit asked worriedly.
[How would I know...] Zhao Li Xin replied indifferently.
[What if...it leads us to the abyss?] The fire spirit purposely scared Zhao Li Xin.
[Then it's a good thing I have you to accompany me right] Zhao Li Xin answered casually.
[Master, don't you feel too calm about this situation?] Fire spirit chides him.
Zhao Li Xin crosses his arms while his chin rests on one of his palms, he appears to be relaxed and a bit bored, then lets out a half-hearted answer [No, I still have two Elysian crystals in my possession, you see for yourself how powerful it was, so why should I be afraid... besides, do you think I'll be easy to kill?]
Even though it sounded arrogant, however, the fire spirit had to admit that Zhao Li Xin was right, even deadly poison and demigods couldn't kill this person so how could he die in a place like this?
[Yes - yes, you're right, sir, by the way, mistress giving you those crystals means she already knows the danger of this place, she's probably explored this kind of place before right, wow, how old was she then?! ] There was a hint of admiration in the firespirit's voice.
Zhao Li Xin's eyes deepen [Too young, fortunately, lord Girsha is always by her side...]
[I know...but still, no normal human wouldn't be afraid to explore a scary place like this, especially for a young woman like mistress]
The fire spirit felt sympathy for Lory, it was hard to imagine a bubbly-looking woman like her would experience so much hurdle in her life. In his opinion both Lory and Zhao Li Xin were alike but also very different nevertheless equally pitiful.
Zhao Li Xin didn't say anything, he knew enough about everything Lory had been through to become who she is right now, even though everyone thought her life was hard and pitiful, on the contrary Lory herself never thought that way, cause in her opinion she was very lucky and although it was short but she had a blissful life and that's alone make her stronger than him.
Finally, the floor stopped in a wide dark with a suffocating musty smell obviously no one had entered this room for a long time. Zhao Li Xin stepped out from where he was standing then suddenly the floor behind him moved up after which the torches in the room lit up at the same time.
Zhao Li Xin looked in the direction where the floor rose, he realized that nothing pushed the floor up which made the floor appear to be floating, Zhao Li Xin frowned with deep interest.
[Ooh, this isn't scary at all...] the fire spirit sarcastically muttered.
Zhao Li Xin was taken away from his deep thoughts then he swept his eyes to a dimmed room that was only illuminated by a few torches.
The elongated shadow cast from the torch does make the room feel eerie.
[How could a spirit be scared at a place like this, don't you feel embarrassed?] Zhao Li Xin deprecatingly said.
The fire spirit would roll his eyes if he had one, [I'm not afraid per-se but I imagined it might scare ordinary humans who enter this place]
[You think I'm afraid] Zhao Li Xin looks at the firespirit with ridicule.
[Empasized the word 'ordinary, master] he clarify.
[oh..] Zhao Li Xin then continued to examine the place.
This room is very different from the other rooms in the labyrinth, one of the striking differences is that this room seems to be more preserved than the other room.
The wall was engraved with weird symbols he had seen before and also a lot of vines and trees, it might mean something but what about the beast statues that scattered all over the room as if someone put the statue randomly?
Zhao Li Xin was confused as to what the person who decorated this place was thinking.
[Master there's another inscription in the wall...] the fire spirit pointed out.
Zhao Li Xin walked toward the stone wall then he ignited the fire flame on his palm later on the inscription became clear, sadly he could not read it. Zhao Li Xin took his phone and then took a lot of photos of the inscription, the wall, and the statues to show it to Lory later.
After that, he turned his head to a strange empty space on the wall that was framed with weird letters that he recognized as runes.
[Strange, the whole wall is carved with something but only this part of the wall is smooth and framed by some kind of spell as if something should be here….I don't know what this is but I don't like it, I feel something unpleasant coming from it,] the fire spirit's voice sounded uneasy.
[Can't you guess?] Zhao Li Xin's interest deepened. The fire spirit pondered for a few seconds then his voice became heavy [It felt the same way as that man, Zian...no, Lazarus]
All of a sudden he heard the sound of metal shifting then the sounds of the floor descending, someone was going down! Zhao Li Xin quickly jumped to the top of the giant statues in hasted.
Shortly after five people wore silver armor with luxuriously ornate white uniforms, all carrying silver swords strapped to their waists.
"Find the person who barges into this place!" said the man who seemed to be the leader of the group.
The four men immediately spread out to look for Zhao Li Xin's whereabouts. Zhao Li Xin nimbly hid behind the statues under a mask of long shadows, he literally played hide and seek with them.
"I found no one!"
"Me, too!"
"There is no one in here either!"
"No one in here too!"
They eventually regrouped after a fruitless search. The leader turned his gaze around to find any sign of someone here but except for the signs of battle and the body of the Blazing Fire Wolf, he didn't feel human presence nor was his mana detector able to pick up any human or Gifted people inside this room.
Unbeknownst to them, their device was only created to locate people by reading temperature, heartbeats, and mana, however, Zhao Li Xin was not like anyone else in this world. He was a cultivator not to mention a very strong.
By using qing gong he can climb pillars and statues without making a sound and with his high cultivation he can hide his presence by slowing his heartbeat to the maximum to the point the device fails to read his heartbeats as normal human being.
Zhao Li Xin hung at the top of the pillar by sticking his dagger into the surface of the pillar while calmly watching the people below painstakingly searching for him.
"What should we do, sir?" he waited for their leader's orders.
The leader's forehead creased momentarily, and then he turned to the certain of the wall that was framed by runes.
"We can't let this guy leave this place" The leader clenched his jaw.
"That was because the Black Crow Guild refused to provide information!" One of his subordinates spat his anger.
"We can let their insolent behavior go unpunished, sir!" The others also chimed in.
The leader raised his hand, "Enough if we can find him, we can bury him inside this place!" the leader mercilessly said.
"Your decision is wise, sir" they saluted the leader who smiled in satisfaction.
"...But Master, why don't we blow up this place if we don't want anyone to enter this place?" asked one of the subordinates.
"That's above your pay grade, shut up and do what the Headquarter asks you to do!" The leader shot a warning look at the subordinates who dared to ask questions.
That certain subordinate knew he had made mistakes he immediately lowered his head in regret, "It's my mistake, Sir, I won't do it again!"
The leader snorted loudly, "Let's go back upstairs, we lock this place so whatever is inside will be buried again," said the leader in a threatening tone. Even though he couldn't find Zhao Li Xin, he couldn't shake the feeling that the man would still be here, though he didn't know what kind of tricks he used to deceive him and his subordinates.
Well, he wasn't wrong because Zhao Li Xin was indeed still here watching them like a predator eyeing his prey.
The fire spirit peeks from behind Zhao Li Xin's shoulder [Master are you going to let them, I think their leader knows something]
Zhao Li Xin stared at the people wearing an exquisite-looking white uniform, then he remembered where he had seen this uniform before. This uniform is very similar to that of the Saintess's Knight he saw on television, which means they are from the S.A.I.N.T. organization! 'Oh my, what a coincidence' Zhao Li Xin grinned evilly.
