Chapter 15: Chapter 15: G-3 Branch
A small warship slowly sailed into the G-3 branch port, its hull gleaming golden in the setting sun.
On the deck, Roy stood straight, his gaze fixed on a familiar figure at the end of the pier. Garp was lying on a lounge chair, a military cap covering his head, his snores thundering, accompanied by a giant snot bubble that trembled with each breath.
"ZzzZ..." A vein throbbed on Roy's forehead. ...This is the "guardian" of the G-3 branch?
As the warship docked, the subordinate, Bogard, immediately came to greet them, a hint of helplessness and amusement in his expression. "Roy, welcome to the G-3 branch!"
Roy stood at attention and saluted. "Mr. Bogard!"
Bogard nodded, then glanced at the still-sleeping Garp, his mouth twitching. "Don't mind him. Mr. Garp is... uh, 'on duty'!"
Roy: "..." (What an unconventional way to be on duty.)
Just then, Garp suddenly jolted. The giant snot bubble popped with a "pop," and he sat up abruptly, his cap falling to the ground. "Hm? Who's here?!"
He rubbed his eyes, and when he saw Roy's face, his eyes instantly lit up, and he burst into a hearty laugh. "Oh! Roy, kid! You're finally here!"
Before he finished speaking, he leaped up with a carp-like jump and rushed over to Roy, throwing an arm around his shoulder. "Great!"
"I can finally slack off in peace!"
Roy's face was full of question marks. "???"
Bogard pressed a hand to his forehead nearby, smiling wryly. "Mr. Garp, please restrain yourself a little..."
Garp paid him no mind, laughing like a child. "Ever since that kid Kuzan got promoted to Vice Admiral, I haven't been able to find a decent fighter."
"Now that you're here, someone can finally do the work for me!"
Roy pointed at himself, bewildered. "So... I was brought here to be a laborer?"
Garp's eyes lit up. He suddenly pulled out a giant iron ball from behind his back as if by magic. "Come on! The welcoming ceremony begins!"
Roy raised an eyebrow, on high alert. "Wait, what welcoming ceremony?"
Garp laughed. "Of course, it's the upgraded version of the 'Fist of Love'—the 'Fist Bone Meteor'!"
As he spoke, Garp had already lifted the iron ball high, like a giant swinging a meteor hammer, and smashed it towards Roy.
"BOOM!!!"
Roy instantly activated his Teleport Fruit, vanishing from the spot. The iron ball smashed into the pier, creating a crater several meters wide. Debris flew everywhere.
The Marines at the G-3 branch poked their heads out, dumbfounded. "Whoa! Vice Admiral Garp is 'welcoming' a newcomer again!"
"Who's the unlucky one this time?"
"I think it's the monster personally trained by Instructor Zephyr, Captain Roy!"
Roy's face was dark. Just as he landed, he saw Garp raise the iron ball again, grinning like a mischievous child. "Don't run! I need to test your strength!"
"BANG! BANG! BANG!"
For the next ten minutes, the G-3 pier turned into a "Iron Ball Battle Royale" slaughterhouse. Roy teleported back and forth between the pier, rooftops, lighthouses, and even cranes, the shadow of the iron ball and afterimages blanketing the scene under the setting sun.
Bogard stood nearby, calmly sipping his coffee, his tone as if he had seen it all before. "You'll get used to it. Mr. Garp's way of showing affection... is rather special."
Finally, Garp had had his fun. He casually tossed the iron ball, which landed with a "thud" at the edge of the pier. He clapped his hands and looked at Roy with a gratified expression. "Not bad! Your reaction speed is up to par! Hahaha!"
Roy was panting, his expression blank. "Thank you for your 'welcome'..."
Garp laughed and threw an arm around his neck. "Let's go! Let's go! I'll treat you to some rice crackers!"
Roy: "Why do I feel like I've been tricked onto a pirate ship?"
The setting sun's glow fell on the sea, the waves shimmering. On the pier, laughter and the sea breeze echoed, feeling strangely like the warmth and absurdity of home.
Ever since Roy arrived at the G-3 branch, Garp's "slacking off" had become even more extreme.
In the office—
Garp had his legs crossed, rice crackers stuffed up his nostrils, and casually ordered, "Bogard! You handle today's paperwork."
Bogard rubbed his forehead in pain. "Mr. Garp, this is your duty..."
Garp said with a straight face, "Roy! You come help Bogard."
Roy was bewildered, pointing at himself. "Me???"
In the cafeteria—
Garp stood at the entrance with his hands on his hips, grinning as he shouted, "Roy! Bring me back some food. It's faster if you teleport!"
Roy's face was dark. "Don't you have your own hands?"
Garp said righteously, "This is training! To exercise your fruit's ability! And to see if there are any potential assassins in the cafeteria!"
Roy: "..."
When there was a pirate extermination mission—
Garp slapped the table. "Bogard! Take Roy out to sea to wipe out the pirates. I need to take a nap."
Bogard sighed. "...Yes, sir."
Roy said helplessly, "Mr. Garp, aren't you being a little too lazy?"
Garp said righteously, "Nonsense! I'm cultivating your independent combat abilities!"
"He's really good at making excuses..."
Although he was a master slacker, Garp was never ambiguous when it came to training Roy. Every morning, the soldiers at the G-3 branch would see this scene: Garp carrying a large bag of iron balls, chasing Roy all over the beach, throwing iron balls as he shouted, "Faster! Faster!"
Roy, while dodging, would complain, "Can't you change the training method?!"
Garp would laugh like a mischievous old man. "No! This is my 'training of love'!"
During his days at G-3, Roy's strength improved at an astonishing rate.
During pirate extermination—
Roy's gaze was sharp. "Six Powers: Instant Prison Kill!"
"Swish-swish-swish—!"
Several afterimages flashed by. Accompanied by the pirates' screams, "thud-thud-thud!" the entire pirate crew fell to the ground.
Bogard nodded lightly from the bow. "Not bad. Let's wrap it up."
During daily training—
Garp laughed and swung his fist. "Take my fist!"
Roy took it head-on.
"BANG!!"
The wall shattered, and Roy was smashed into it, only half his body visible. But he quickly climbed out, his gaze firm. "Again!"
Garp grinned. "You've got guts!"
During nightly extra training—
Under the moonlight on the training ground, Roy was alone, a faint Armament Haki surrounding him. The afterimages of his teleportation practice intertwined on the cold ground. He continuously tried to perfectly combine the power of teleportation and Haki, each move sharper and swifter than the last.
G-3 Branch Office
Bogard strode into the G-3 office, his face grim. "Vice Admiral Garp, a pirate crew with a bounty of over 300 million Berries has appeared nearby. It's said they are carrying a large amount of armed firearms and poison gas bombs."
Garp, who had been dozing off with his legs crossed, his eyes lit up upon hearing this. He laughed. "Great! I was just wanting to warm up after a long time!"
But just as he was about to get up, the office door was pushed open. Roy strode in, his eyes shining with a sharp light. "Old man, let me go."
Garp was stunned for a moment, then burst into a hearty laugh. "Hahaha! That's my disciple!"
He slapped Roy's shoulder hard. "Alright! Go! But remember, if you run into someone you can't beat, run back. Don't die!"
Roy nodded firmly. "Don't worry."
