Chapter 14: Chapter 14: Real Combat Training
South Blue, Castro Island.
A dilapidated fishing village twisted in the firelight, half the sky swallowed by thick smoke.
"Hahaha! Hand over everything valuable!"
The captain of the "Bone Crusher" pirates, "Bone Crusher" Balo, with a bounty of 80 million Berries, kicked over an old man who was kneeling and begging for mercy. He laughed savagely, raising his blood-stained iron hook, his eyes glinting with violence.
"Old man! If you dare to keep crying, I'll gouge out your granddaughter's eyes!"
Behind him, dozens of pirates laughed wantonly. Some were pulling at stolen fishing nets and grain, others were dragging screaming women, and even more were simply holding torches and setting fire to thatched huts, reveling in the pleasure of watching the flames consume the wooden beams.
"St-Stop... We're just fishermen, we don't have any money..." the old man pleaded, clutching Balo's leg, his voice trembling.
"So annoying!" Balo's eyes turned fierce, and he raised his iron hook high, the cold light glinting.
"Swish—!"
A black shadow cut through the night sky as the wind suddenly picked up. Balo's hook swung down fiercely but only hit the air.
"Hm?" Balo was stunned, his hand pausing for a moment.
The next second, a powerful arm supported the old man. A black-haired boy in a Marine uniform stood there, his gaze icy.
"...Pirates. Truly disgusting creatures."
Balo's pupils constricted. "A M-Marine?!"
Roy said lightly, "Don't be afraid, old man. Go to a safe place."
Before he finished speaking, his figure suddenly vanished.
"Where did he go?!"
"Up there!"
Amidst the cries of alarm, Roy appeared in mid-air, holding two flintlock pistols he had snatched from the pirates, his black hair flying in the wind.
"BANG! BANG!"
Two shots rang out. The bullets precisely pierced the heads of two pirates, blood splattering under the firelight, stark and bloody.
"Bastard! Kill him!" Balo roared, and his pirates swarmed forward, bullets raining down on Roy.
However, all the bullets passed through his afterimages.
"Swish!"
Roy's figure appeared behind a sword-wielding pirate, his finger twitching slightly.
"Finger Pistol: Flash!"
"CRACK!"
The pirate's neck snapped instantly. His eyes bulged as he fell, his expression frozen in terror.
"Damn it! He's a Devil Fruit user!"
"Don't let him pick us off one by one!"
The pirates began to retreat in panic, but Roy's figure flickered like a ghost. Each teleport was accompanied by the fall of a pirate.
"Tempest Kick: Flash!"
His feet drew a smooth arc in the air. The slash wave refracted three times, cutting through the weapons and bodies of ten pirates, sending sparks flying.
"H-How can this be..." Cold sweat beaded on Balo's forehead, his iron hook trembling slightly. "Wh-what kind of monster is this..."
Roy landed on the ground, his gaze falling coldly on him. "You people don't even deserve a trial."
In the distance, Zephyr was watching with the new batch of training camp cadets.
"Are you kidding me..." The new recruits stared with wide eyes at the boy who seemed to have descended like a god of war.
"One person... crushing an entire pirate crew?!"
"Those slashes and gunshots... were they done while teleporting?!"
"It's almost... like he's dancing..."
Zephyr stood at the edge of the field, his eyes behind his sunglasses shining brightly. "He's integrated Tempest Kick and Finger Pistol into his teleportation rhythm, and even created a continuously refracting 'Flash' technique..."
"This kid is already forging his own path."
Balo's face was pale. He finally couldn't help but roar, "Don't look down on me!!!"
His body was covered in blood, but his arms were suddenly coated in a faint Armament Haki. His roar seemed to want to shatter the heavens. "I am 'Bone Crusher' Balo!!"
Roy's expression was blank. He slowly raised his right hand and clenched his fingers.
"Bone Crusher?" He formed a fist, and the air began to distort. He threw a punch, and the force of it appeared instantly in front of Balo.
"Teleport: Air Cannon!"
"BOOM—!!!"
With a tremendous sound, the fist's force transformed into an invisible wave of air that instantly shattered Balo's iron hook. The shockwave hit him square in the face, slamming his burly body into the ground and creating a ten-meter-wide crater.
The dust settled. Balo's pupils had lost focus, half his teeth were scattered at the bottom of the crater, and his body looked like a meat patty that had been run over by a giant hammer. He was clearly deader than dead.
The entire village fell into a dead silence, with only the sound of the wind whistling. Balo's body was still embedded in the crater, blood slowly seeping from the cracked ground, carrying a strong, rusty smell.
Zephyr stood on a half-destroyed roof, his gaze behind his sunglasses like a torch as he watched the black-haired boy walk back, his heart filled with immense relief.
Roy shook his wrist, which was still wrapped in Armament Haki, and walked slowly towards the coast, his gaze calm.
"Mission complete."
Before he could finish, a wave of excited shouts erupted—
"Senior Roy! Can you teach me that move?!"
"That was so cool! How did you do the continuous teleporting Tempest Kick?!"
"Senior! Can I have your autograph?!"
The new recruits swarmed him, their eyes shining with admiration. A few bold ones had even taken out pens and notebooks, looking like crazed fans.
Roy had intended to keep a straight face, but he was completely surrounded. A vein throbbed on his forehead. "...Don't push!"
"Senior Roy! How did you combine Finger Pistol and teleportation?!"
"Ahhh, that last punch was so awesome!"
"Please teach us!"
Roy's head was starting to ache from the noise. He was about to open his mouth when a large hand suddenly clapped his shoulder.
"Quiet!"
Zephyr had appeared behind him at some point, his arms crossed, his voice as loud as a bell. "You want to learn? Finish my basic training first!"
The new recruits deflated like popped balloons, their heads hanging low. "Ugh... basic training..."
Roy finally breathed a sigh of relief and looked at Zephyr with gratitude.
Zephyr glanced at him and grinned. "Don't look at me like that. This is just the beginning."
"Yes, Instructor!"
The setting sun dyed the sea red, its golden rays shimmering on the waves. The warship slowly departed from the South Blue, the salty sea breeze sweeping across the deck.
Roy stood at the bow, his black hair blowing in the wind, his gaze deep as he looked towards the receding fishing village.
"What are you thinking about?" a deep voice asked. Zephyr walked over with two cups of hot tea and handed one to him.
Roy took it, took a light sip, and said faintly, "That village just now... the survivors might encounter pirates again."
Zephyr was silent for a moment, his eyes darkening. He sighed. "The atrocities of pirates will never stop. All we can do is save as many as we can."
Roy gripped his teacup, his tone firm. "Just saving them isn't enough."
Zephyr raised an eyebrow and turned to look at him. "Oh?"
Roy looked up, his black eyes shining with a cold light. "Pirates... must be completely eradicated."
Zephyr was stunned for a moment, then burst out laughing, a hint of relief in his eyes. "Hahaha! That's the kind of ruthlessness you need!"
As his laughter subsided, he took a deep breath, drank some tea, and his tone suddenly became serious. "Roy, I've taught you pretty much everything I can."
Roy was slightly taken aback and looked up. "Instructor?"
Zephyr stared at the distant horizon, his voice deep and powerful. "With your current strength, you won't learn much more in the training camp. It's time to let you go out and gain some real experience."
He turned to look at Roy, a smile on his lips. "Of course, with your current abilities, even if you run into someone you can't beat, you can still run away, hahaha!"
Roy nodded lightly, his gaze firm. "Instructor, can I choose where I go?"
Zephyr raised an eyebrow and smiled. "Oh? Where do you want to go?"
A fervent light shone in Roy's eyes. "A place with a lot of pirates."
Zephyr burst out laughing. "Hahaha! I knew you'd say that!"
He rubbed the stubble on his chin, pretending to think seriously. "Hmm... in that case, let's have you go to the G-3 branch first."
"G-3?" Roy was slightly stunned.
Zephyr narrowed his eyes. "That old bastard Garp is 'stationed' there, although he's probably just slacking off and sleeping."
He then straightened up, his tone carrying a hint of instruction. "The G-3 branch is located at the crossroads of the first half of the Grand Line, 'Paradise,' and the 'New World.' The quantity and quality of pirates there are enough for you to gain experience. And, with Garp there, I can rest a little easier."
Roy nodded solemnly. "Understood."
As night fell and the sea breeze grew cool, the warship's lights cast golden spots on the sea. Zephyr took an exquisite pocket watch from his coat and handed it to Roy. "Take this. It's a farewell gift."
Roy took the watch and gently opened it. Inside was a miniature sea chart, its needle forever pointing towards Marineford.
Zephyr snorted gruffly. "If you get lost, use this to come back! Don't make me wait too long."
Roy gripped the watch tightly and bowed deeply. "Yes, sir!"
Zephyr turned his face away, his voice low. "You brat... don't bring shame to me at G-3."
Roy pursed his lips into a smile, noticing the slight redness at the tips of Zephyr's ears. "Instructor, thank you."
Zephyr waved his hand, his back still straight. "Hmph, enough nonsense! Go pack your things! We leave first thing in the morning."
The sea breeze blew across the deck, ruffling Roy's black hair.
