Chapter 6: Chapter 1.4 - New Home
In the Present...
"I didn't bring you here." The voice was close, right by his side he could feel it. "You did. You got yourself in this position."
The dodgy attitude and the charades were more stressful than being tied up in the dark. Helpless, with no glue if the voice was evil or not, Adam's mind started to get taken over by despair, until a light popped out in his brain.
"Holy shit!" He said in a mix of excitement and surprise. "This is a dream."
As if he had found gold in the trash, Adam felt like the brightest person in the world. To regain conscience in the middle of a dream was not for everybody.
"Sorry, man, keep going. I'll play along." Said he, fixing himself to get comfortable in the restraints.
"What-" The voice mumbled.
Adam relaxed and took a deep breath to get back into character.
"You are not gonna get away with this, fella!" Deepening his voice to sound more heroic. He had assumed a theatrical stereotyped hero personality. "You should get out while you can. I'm not gonna be merciful when I get rid of these ties."
Breathing heavily in a forced way, he paused dramatically waiting for the man to do his line.
After a while in complete silence and darkness, the voice didn't reply.
"Hey!" Adam whispered loudly in his usual voice. "It's your line. Oh, and take out my blindfold!"
"Look me in the eyes, if you are man enough." He continued his act, excited for the action scene that would come next.
"Okay." The male voice dropped the godly mysterious tone. "This is absurd."
Adam heard shuffling after the voice spoke up annoyed. Containing his enthusiasm, the Playboy waited for the big reveal. He was really in the mood to punch someone and shoot guns. Maybe fly while shooting guns and punching people with the gun.
In the middle of his rambling, a light lit up.
It was so bright Adam shut his eyes as an instinct. All along he thought his eyes were closed, but he was just in complete darkness.
Fighting against his own eyelids, he tried endlessly to stabilize his sight with no success.
"You're dead, Adam." A shadow covered the light, allowing Adam to see a little better. "You died and this is the afterlife."
He heard him but the light was too distracting. Slowly his vision became clear but there was no one there with him.
"I try to make something interesting and mysterious but kids these days are just too impatient."
Adam didn't say anything, that dream was getting weirder by the minute. Something must've happened last night to give him this crazy trip.
"Hey, grandpa, what did you say about me?"
With his eyes accustomed to the light he looked around to check the environment. There wasn't much to see, there was this spotlight in the middle and everything was black.
"Don't call me grandpa or I'll send you back."
Adam got his attention. The old man turned to him covering the spotlight. The palace looked like an interrogation room. Looking down at himself, the Playboy couldn't see anything tying him up. His legs and arms were free and looked intact but he still couldn't move them.
"Where am I?"
"Look around." The man walked out of the light.
Turning his neck as much as he could, Adam could only see darkness in every possible direction, even under his feet.
"I can't. Can you release me now? It's not like I can run away." The boy would have shrugged but his shoulders weren't moving either. Looking to where the man was, he didn't find him, at least not in his field of vision.
"I'm not the one keeping you here. You are." The man resuscitated his fancy narrator tone. Adam got the chills, somehow he knew what he said was true.
"How's that?" The more they talked, the more suspicious everything got. "Where am I?"
Adam's heart was racing. The man's head disappeared but his voice was coming from an unknown location.
"It's good that you finally asked."
Preparing himself for whatever was going to happen next, Adam closed his eyes tight and waited.
It was deadly quiet, there was no wind blowing, no other sounds besides his own breathing.
"Open your eyes." The voice was right behind him, giving him a scare amid the creepy atmosphere.
