The New Elemental God

Chapter 30: Chapter 3.6 - Losers

"And when were you planning on telling me this?"

Adam was on one side of the table while the other three Gods were standing by Calder's side.

"You were still trying to make peace with your death, I was waiting for the right time…"

Feeling his body burn from inside out, the Earth God could only see the hammer descending over his mother.

"Now that my mother is missing, it is the right time to tell me there's an overpowered son-of-a-bitch out there looking for revenge!" He punched the stone table marking each one of the last three words.

The whole thing felt like a trap. As if he was tricked into joining this failed group of losers who were being persecuted by a demon. Who in their right mind would sign up to fight the creator of the world?!

"Hold on!" Raising her voice, Hikari stepped up in their defense. "We had no way of knowing Marduk was free. Also, I'm sure you were advised NOT to go to the Material World, correct me if I'm wrong?"

Flickering like a fire being fed, the Goddess' eyes defied Adam who stiffened his muscles with anger. The room's tension was increasing with every accusation.

"So it is my fault that my family almost died and my mother disappeared?!"

This time the tremor was so strong the empty chairs began to bounce while the pointy limestones began to fall like daggers. Hikari's indifferent attitude only made Adam more irritated. She didn't move a muscle and neither deviated from his challenging gaze.

"It's Marduk's fault." Demonstrating a more assertive side, Shu stepped between them. "Accusing each other won't take us anywhere. We have to find out what happened to Adam's mother."

Taking a deep breath, the stubborn boy and the hot-headed lady gave up the tuggawar and looked away dissatisfied. No one said anything for a while because they had no idea of where to start. The world was so big and they couldn't think of anywhere that could be used to contain such force.

"We should go to Vulcan town."

Giving up on the superior pose, the Goddess massaged her temples demonstrating way more concern than the Playboy expected. It was the first time Adam saw her face look soft.

"We have the greatest scholars in the world, they might be able to find something."

Waiting for Calder's support they all looked at him. Still facing the wall, he was holding his head with one hand.

Slowly he brought himself back up, leaving the defeated posture aside. Pulling his neck to his shoulder the sound of snapping bones, made Adam cringe. Calder fixed his spine, assuming his usual straighted pose. His bruises were almost completely gone, except for one.

Starting on his hairline, going down his forehead, crossing his left eye and ending on his cheek, the scar resembled a lighting. Even though the old guy looked physically the same, his soul seemed different. As if what happened had affected his essence.

"It's our best shot." Turning to meet Adam eyes for the first time, Calder continued. "And they have great training arenas."

Confused with the subject, the Young God shifted his attitude to something more welcoming. Seeing everyone was willing to help, made him realise he had no other option but to keep them as his allies. With his mother in mind, he decided to go along and see where they took him.

"If you want to save our mother, you'll have to master all the Earth powers and more."

The blue in the Water God's eyes were intense, like the sea before a storm. Getting closer to Adam, Calder's aura was determined and fierce.

"Marduk wasn't even trying to fight back there, so we have to prepare or you we'll be nothing more than dirt under his hammer."

After speaking directly to the newbie, he turned to the experienced Gods.

"We all have to level up our games if we want to make him break a seat."

The Four Gods exchanged looks between themselves. They knew what was to come was something they had never been through before. Even if they gave their best it might not end the way they want, so the idea of training was received with no protests.

Adam accepted all that was proposed but he was struggling to deal with the inactivity. He was told to sit back and wait as if throwing rocks at a target would make him forget that his mother was at the hands of that Monster.

Troubled, he tried to think of any quicker solutions to tracking his mom but none came to mind.

With a firm nod he agreed with the plan.

"Well, I'll go ahead to get the researchers working and also prepare accommodations for everyone."

Shu thanked her and just as she arrived, another pillar of fire took her away. More than ever, Adam's animosity towards the Goddess was apparent. He scoffed once she left and relaxed his muscles but crossed his arms in front of his body.

"I'll meet you guys there…" Shu floated ahead to the exit, leaving Calder and Adam alone, probably intentionally.

Keeping the wall between them, Adam was trying to swallow the old man's betrayal but it was too difficult. Thinking to himself, the Young Man wondered how he would trust him again.

"Is there any chance for us to defeat him?"

Calder looked up at Adam as he heard the question. Most of the time the God's positive side would win, but at that moment he didn't have anything hopeful to say. Unable to lie to his fellow Guardian, he held his gaze before stating.

"If there is, we'll find it."
