The New Elemental God

Chapter 14: Chapter 1.12 - The Four Elemental Gods

In a spontaneous combustion a beam of red flames hit one of the seats. Adam jumped, scared out of his wits, and nearly fell off the chair. From within the sudden blaze emerged a beautiful woman.

"Oh thank god, I was tired of waiting." She said in a very demanding tone after the flames evaporated. Then she continued. "I hate the suspense you make. Is it really necessary, Cal?"

"Of course, otherwise this whole ritual would be very boring!"

"So you keep saying."

Turning to the newest member, the fire woman looked him right in the eyes. Hers were of a crimson shade mixed with black marks, thrilling as the lava that comes out of an active volcano. Her hair was braided back in a low bun, a testament to her attention to detail. It gave her a composed, sophisticated look, like someone who embraced perfection.

"Nice to meet you, Adam Cross."

Before Adam could bring himself to reply to her, a wind current blew so strongly that everyone in the room lost their breaths. Struggling to see past the blowing wind they heard a melodic voice.

"Hey you guys!"

An enthusiastic being entered the cave turning the whips of wind into a soft fresh breeze. Flying in a very performative way, with lots of twists and turns the person landed by Adam's side. The smell of "rain" filled up New God's nose, throwing back to his childhood in his grandma's farm.

"I'm so happy you are here, I hope we get along!" They, the person that just arrived, got so close Adam was even startled when the jovial character grabbed his hand to shake it cheerfully.

That person was very distinct from the others. For starters, the pointy elvish ears covered in jewelry called Adam's attention instantly. Next thing to cause wonder was the white skin, as clear as the clouds, without any sign of aging, making them the youngest of them all. To go with it all, a long and elegant face, tapering into a sharp, delicate chin that gave them an otherworldly grace. Almond-shaped eyes that gleamed like a cat's—narrow and decorated with colorful make-up added a youthful touch.

"Me too, I guess." Adam was bit embarrassed but he like the person's spontaneity.

Hikari noticed Adam was very intimidated by the proximity and promptly called out newcomer.

"Shu, sit down, you are scaring the boy."

"Oh, I'm so sorry, Adam, sometimes I get carried away."

With giggles, the person let go of the newbie's hand to take a seat across the table. Sitting facing one another the four people were extremely contrasting.

One mature woman, looking very respectful and intimidating. An old man with a silly smile and wearing a dress. A person that looked a lot like the spirits Adam saw in the city. And, at last, a Playboy that had no idea what he was doing on that table.

"Since we are all finally here."

Calder stood up, summoning his godly tone.

"I would like to finally introduce the new Earth God. Adam, meet Hikari, the Fire Goddess and Shu, the Air Deity, as they prefer to be called."

The woman bowed her head very formally, meanwhile Shu's smile was so big their eyes were nothing more than a line in their face.

"As for me, I am Calder - as you know - the Water God."

Unsure on what the protocol was for that meeting, the new member raised a hand to greet them all.

"Come on, stand up so we can get a better look at you!" Shu instigated the others to break the ice.

"Yes, Adam, stand up so we can see you better." Calder supported the motion with a very suspicious smirk that gave the boy chills.

Against his will, Adam stood up and opened his arms presenting himself.

"Peculiar choice of clothes. I would never have guessed that was your style."

About to turn around, the new God stopped, finding Shu's affirmation very odd. Looking down at himself he saw a long brown tunic with short sleeves that he didn't notice until that moment.

"How?!"

Spinning on his heels trying to understand what he was wearing, Adam was pulling hem of the dress in absolute shock.

"You know these challenges of yours are extremely unfair, Calder."

Hikari didn't change her feature, not one bit. Instead she sighed in disapproval of the older man's exaggerated laughter. Goat beard was holding his belly while melted on his chair.

"I think you look very distinct, Adam."

Although the Playboy did not appreciate the compliment, he knew Shu was just trying to make the situation better.

"He could've rejected it, ya know. I did not force him."

The wink that followed made the newest God very irritated. If it was back on Earth he would have jumped the guy on that instant. Even if no one ever said anything like that to him. Adam felt the urge to get away from those clowns but he didn't have anywhere to go.

Eyes squeezed trying to contain the anger, the boy did not move. Just when he felt a smell of something burning that he looked down. Flames were covering his body from head to toe, he stepped back desperate and was about to take off the dress when the fire extinguished on its own.

"There. Let's settle down now, boys."

In a flat tone, Hikari said bringing Adam's conscience back.

Adam grabbed his torso to confirm if it was still there. As he touched his arms and legs a sentiment of relief rained over him.

"Why do you always ruin the fun?"

Calder knocked on the table, clearly frustrated at the fire Goddess for changing Adam's clothes to something less embarrassing.

"Why are you so immature?" Hikari replied, then turned her face away from the old man.

"I'm screwed." Adam said as he dropped himself on the chair.
