The New Elemental God

Chapter 13: Chapter 1.11- Hero

Imagining himself a hero, the Playboy struck the hero's iconic pose and shot into the open sky. The wind lashed against his face as he sped forward.

For a first time he was doing great he'd say but his opponent would probably laugh. If he wanted to win he had to go even faster. Drawing inspiration from the movies once more, he considered using his legs to propel himself even further.

Both legs together, Adam kicked the air.

He was catapulted forward followed by an explosion that agitated the air under his feet. The wind was razor-sharp, making it difficult to see. The pressure wrapped around him, holding him in place as if he was a speeding bullet. It was impossible to know if he was winning or not but it was fun at least.

Heart racing, short breathed, his body was boiling with adrenaline.

It was hard to see more than a crack but the gate became more apparent and closer. There was no sign of the old man up front which sent a cold wave down Adam's spine. He was going to make it.

Less than a mile away, the smirk was already forming on the Playboy's lips.

Then something sliced the air by his side, shoving him out of course and spinning like a rag doll. what followed was was even louder sound than the one Adam made when crossing the sound barrier.

Focusing on the hips, Adam managed to stop himself from falling. His neck cracked because of the rotation but it was not serious, he was just glad to have managed to avoid death this time.

"Oi! Are you alright?"

At the doorway, waving down on him, was Calder in a very good mood.

Gliding slowly trying to avoid the unavoidable, Adam was feeling defeated and ashamed for the first time in his life.

"What was that? I swear I saw a blink."

"Oh you saw that?! That was me crossing the light barrier." He straightened himself and puffed out his chest feeling very proud.

"How is that even possible?" Adam was twisting around trying to put his bones back where they belonged.

"It's tricky, ya know. As I was going faster than light it causes a time distortion that sort of stops time."

Listening to the explanation the young man was wondering how the hell grandpa managed to fly at the speed of light. The worst part was that Adam knew it was true because something weird happened. To him it felt like the world blinked when Calder passed by.

"Can I do that?"

"It's probably not a good idea to try that on your first day."

Very fatherly, the goat-beard man patted the loser Playboy on the back and turned him to face the monument.

"Now lemme show you your New home."

From up close the door was tremendous. It was made of rough quartz stone, so it reflected most of the light that reached it. On each side there was a floating fire warming up the entrance. At the top, a waterfall coming out of the rock was gushing water down.

"This is the God's Gate."

"Who put this here?" The boy was tempted to touch the quartz wall to know how it felt.

"Probably the first Gods." Calder gazed at the Playboy, he looked marveled by the construction which made the wise man hurry to enter.

"Come, let's see inside. There's people I want you to meet."

"Inside where?"

The Water God did not wait for Adam and hurried to cross the doorway. Frustrated at the mystery but also thankful that the punishment for losing was not mentioned, he soon followed his guide.

The Gate looked like there was nothing behind it but the sky. Calder flew through it and disappeared into the blue background. Of course it wasn't just a dumb flying temple, it had to be something extra.

Shaking his head, Adam crossed the Gate into another magical unknown place.

At the other side there weren't clouds, it was a closed space. Levitating near the ground, Adam was in a cave, a very tall and large one, much like a cathedral.

The cave was made of limestone. A rock that melted from the ceiling, creating pillars from the drops. It was madness how that room looked like it was liquid. What was even more absurd is how Adam knew all of that just from looking at the material.

At the center stood a massive, circular stone table, surrounded by four seats carved from the same ancient rock. Coming from above a beam of light landed directly over it, reflecting on the white stone and magically illuminating the whole place.

Noticing the sound of flowing water, Adam flew higher to get a better look. Circling the cave there was a crystal blue river that flowed a bit lower than the floor creating an island of rock in the middle of the cave.

It was a spectacular natural construction made out of materials found on our planet.

Finally, paying attention to his peacock guide, the man was already seated at the table, calling for Adam to join him.

"You like it?"

Calder asked once Adam joined him but was still looking up at the ceiling.

"Yeah, it's wild. Is this a real cave?"

"We don't know but I think the doorway is a wormhole and we are in another dimension."

"Makes sense."

They shrugged and ended the subject.

Using the opportunity of being near a giant piece of stone that was the table, the young God touched it to try and test his powers. As if someone flipped a switch, something lighted up on his brain and he knew it was a sedimentary rock dating back more than 13 billion years.

"Hey,"

Calder waved to catch Adam's gaze who was bending down to look under the table.

"I brought you here because there's some people you need to meet."

Actually concerned about the kind of people that the old man would want to introduce him to, the boy fixed himself on the chair expecting the worst.

"Come on guys, it's time to meet our baby brother."
