Chapter 73: Chapter 73

"Is that it...? Is it really over just like that...?"

"But... my dream... still hasn't been realized..."

"The new era of Kirigakure... hasn't come yet..."

"How... could I fall... in a place like this...?"

Zabuza coughed up a mouthful of blood and collapsed beside Haku.

Though he was branded a traitor, a rogue ninja, his heart had never truly left his village.

Deep down, he had always carried the hope of a brighter future for Kirigakure.

In truth...

Zabuza was never the cold-blooded killer that the world believed him to be.

Yoruha knew that.

He bent down, leaned beside Zabuza's ear, and said softly:

"Don't worry. The Blood Mist will end.

In a few years, Kirigakure will become the village you and Yagura once dreamed of."

Zabuza's dying eyes flickered.

He raised his head with great difficulty, locking eyes with Yoruha one final time.

"You... actually know that..."

"I hope... you're not lying to me..."

And with that—

A generation's hero faded into the mist.

He may have been a rebel.

But in time, Zabuza Momochi would be remembered as one of the true warriors of Kirigakure.

"Damn brat! You're way too strong!"

Anko came running toward Yoruha, coins practically twinkling in her eyes.

"You nearly gave me a heart attack—why didn't you say something sooner!?"

Yoruha braced himself. He thought she'd come over and smack him across the head.

Instead—

She pulled him into a hug.

And kissed him square on the forehead.

"Thank you," she said with a soft smile. "Stupid brat."

Yoruha blinked in surprise, momentarily stunned.

He didn't push her away. But in his head, he was quietly thinking:

My bones are still sore from that last fight, woman... did you have to go that hard with the dramatics?

After Zabuza's death, Anko cleanly decapitated him and stored the Executioner's Blade as a bounty token.

Meanwhile, Yoruha and Dazuna quietly worked to build graves for both Zabuza and Haku.

But when they finished, Yoruha stood in front of Zabuza's grave... and frowned.

The system didn't activate.

"Huh?"

"Anko," he said, turning to her with an annoyed look. "You really went and chopped his head off? Can't you leave a full body for once? Isn't this a little cruel?"

Without waiting for a reply, Yoruha sighed, walked over, and reburied Zabuza's severed head into the grave.

And then—

Ding!

"Host has arrived at the sign-in location. Sign-in will now begin."

Ding!

"Congratulations. Sign-in successful."

"Reward acquired: Advanced Water Release."

"Reward acquired: Zabuza's Water Release Gift Pack."

Yoruha smirked with satisfaction.

As of today—

He had mastered Water Style.

"Wait, wait, wait!" Anko yelled. "You just buried the proof of the bounty!

Now what the hell are we supposed to show the mission office to get paid!?"

Yoruha shrugged casually. "The Executioner's Blade is proof enough. If they're dumb enough not to pay out, I'll just use the sword to 'convince' them."

Anko blinked.

Then she laughed.

"Ha! You really are my student after all. You sound just like me! I love it!"

Yoruha smiled slyly. "By the way, considering your performance in that last fight... I think 50% of the bounty's a bit generous, don't you think?

How about we renegotiate—10% sound fair?"

"GET LOST, YOU DAMN BRAT!" Anko shouted, chasing him around the field.

After news of Zabuza's death reached the Cardo Group, chaos ensued.

The infamous shipping magnate couldn't believe it.

Dazuna... that stubborn old man...

He actually hired a Konoha genin strong enough to kill Zabuza!?

What kind of monster did they send!?

Was Konoha Village trying to interfere with the affairs of the Land of Waves?

For a moment, Cardo froze in panic.

If that kid had really been dispatched by the Hokage...

...then provoking him any further would be suicidal.

"Hey, Anko," Yoruha said as they sat around a small fire that night.

"What do you say... should we rob Cardo?"

Anko blinked. "...Huh?"

Yoruha grinned. "I mean, he's the richest man in the Land of Waves, right?

We just saved this entire country. Shouldn't we... you know, collect a 'thank-you tax'?"

Anko narrowed her eyes.

"...You're lucky you're cute, brat."
