Chapter 72: Chapter 72
Facing Zabuza's large-scale Water Style: Great Waterfall Technique,
Yoruha didn't flinch.
He raised his hands—and responded with a technique once used by none other than Uchiha Madara himself:
A massive Fire Style technique.
A sea of flame surged forward, clashing against the torrential wall of water.
In an instant, steam exploded into the air, and the battlefield became engulfed in a thick, rolling fog.
But that… was exactly what Zabuza had wanted.
Whoosh!
A flicker of shadow sliced through the mist.
Zabuza reappeared—kunai already pressed against Yoruha's neck, the cold steel just grazing his carotid artery.
"Heh… thanks for all the mist, kid," Zabuza said with a low chuckle. "In this fog, no one can move faster than me."
It was the perfect environment for his Hidden Mist Assassination Technique.
Heavy fog meant blurred sight—blurred sight meant instant death.
But Yoruha didn't react.
Didn't flinch.
Didn't even glance at the blade on his neck.
He simply spoke, calm as ever.
"Oh really?"
"I've heard that four of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist were kicked to death by a single Konoha genin."
"So tell me… facing me, another Genin of the Hidden Leaf—
Where exactly does your confidence come from?"
Zabuza's brow twitched.
He was just about to silence Yoruha permanently—
But then he heard a strange, muffled click.
His expression changed immediately.
Turning slightly, his eyes locked on a glowing tag stuck to Yoruha's chest.
"A detonating tag—?!
Are you insane?!"
BOOM!!
An explosion tore through the mist, flames erupting in a violent blast.
It was no ordinary tag.
It was a high-yield explosive charm, specially crafted by the Yamanaka Clan—
far more powerful than standard gear.
Even though Zabuza had used the Mist Body Flicker Technique at the last possible second,
he was still caught in the outer blast.
He crashed backward, coughing up blood, his body scorched and battered. His signature bandages were burned to tatters.
"This… this kid is insane!
All these damn Konoha genin are crazy!"
Meanwhile—
Yoruha calmly stepped out from the other side of the fog, not a scratch on him.
"Whew," he exhaled. "The feedback from a shadow clone self-destructing is still pretty unpleasant."
He stretched his arm a little.
"But it was worth it to catch you off guard."
It had all been part of the plan.
When Yoruha had unleashed his Fire Style to counter Zabuza's waterfall,
he had already predicted the next step: that Zabuza would immediately go into assassination mode.
So, just before the mist rolled in, he secretly swapped himself with a shadow clone,
already primed with a hidden detonating tag.
And because Zabuza couldn't help but monologue—
the clone had time to explode right in his face.
Anko, still trapped in the water prison, was dumbfounded.
She knew what it meant.
When a shadow clone is destroyed, all the sensations and experiences are sent back to the original.
Which meant…
Even though Yoruha wasn't physically injured, he had felt the explosion.
Felt his own body being blown apart.
Anko shivered just thinking about it.
"Crazy kid…"
Yoruha now stood before the weakened Zabuza, his eyes calm and indifferent.
"Demon of the Hidden Mist," he said quietly,
"I'll be taking your life now."
Whoosh!
His blade sliced forward—aimed straight for Zabuza's throat.
But just before it could land—
A figure stepped between them.
Splat.
The sword pierced clean through the interloper's chest.
It was Haku—Shiro of the Ice, the delicate-looking boy who moved like a ghost.
He took the blade without hesitation.
Icy chakra burst from Haku's body, coating Yoruha's sword with frost.
It cracked.
Snap—
Yoruha's blade shattered at the point of contact, crumbling to pieces.
Only the hilt remained in his hand.
"Zabuza-sama…" Haku gasped softly, blood flowing from his mouth.
"I won't be able to see your dream come true…
But please… run…"
With that, Haku collapsed.
Yoruha looked down, expression unreadable.
He let the broken hilt drop from his fingers.
"…Too late."
He raised one hand.
With a flick of his index finger—
Boom.
A thin blast of razor-sharp Wind Release chakra shot forward,
piercing straight through Zabuza's chest and heart.
The demon fell.
