Chapter 6: [ Chapter III (3): "HEY... IS THAT PROFESSOR SLUGHORN?" ]
[ Chapter III (3): "HEY... IS THAT PROFESSOR SLUGHORN?" ]
WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGH THAT BEING A WIZARD IS COSTLY. Felix most definitely thought about that as he looks at the extensive list of requirements that sounds weird to the normal person's ear, and impractical to some.
What the hell is a dragonhide in the first place?! Are they gonna kill a dragon? Do I have to kill a dragon? Aren't dragons extinct?! Wait... Dragons do exist...
[ "That is actually a good question." ] Mr. Slughorn in hearing Felix's question abruptly stops the magic show he is showing to the Matron. He looked at the floor for a moment, before finally opening his mouth: [ "Diagon Alley." ]
Fixing the cuffs of his suit, he began on explaining the intricacies of the Wizardry World.
[ "Market in America... Market in Britain... Uganda... French... Tokyo... Spain. All over the world." ] From shopping districts with each having unique qualities, and some small details that add to the story telling of the fatman. To personal bias, especially the hate which was prominent slightly that swept both the Matron and Felix in some cases.
[ "O-oh yes, yes. The MACUSA, That's the name for the government wizardry counterpart of United States — I can't really believe they ban intermarriage for Muggles and Wizards." ] He paused slightly, trying to piece down words and take a breather,
[ "Muggles are people with no magical affinity by the way... Where was I again?" ]
[ "Intermarriage..." ]
[ "Oh, yes, that. You see, due to one witch having been so in love — she enthusiastically talked about the wizarding world, to a Muggle... Then... That..." ]
Mr. Slughorn, who re-introduced himself as the Professor of Potions, and Head of House Slytherin for Hogwarts talked about topics ranging from places, magical items, magic shows, transfiguration skills, and ultimately history which Felix began to find interesting.
What caught Felix's attention to be more precise is the experience of the man in story telling, and leading people to support him no matter his view on things — heck, Felix was shocked in finding out that the Wizarding World and the Muggle World isn't in a different place of existence.
Apparently Witches and Wizards exist, they just hide, not visible to the naked eye through many magical means. And from what he gathered, some are usually, ineffective at the point of exposure.
Through Professor Slughorn's explanation, Felix learned about many things; some he is sure of not being able to atain through books. The Matron, Madam Miranda kept listening attentively, like a child, with Felix not knowing who's more of an adult between the two of them.
Through the talk, Madam Miranda expressed her envy, and sadness in not being able to wield magic, like the mysterious wizard-man in front of her, and eventually her son-like figure, Felix. But nonetheless the novel experience, and knowledge of another world slightly worried her.
The rest of the talk was all about reassuring her, and re-telling her about the ways Wizards and Witches usually avoid prying Muggle eyes, [ "You see, there was this one time that caused 1082 individuals to have their memories erased due to accidentally stumbling on a part- Madam are you alright?" ] The Professor, unlike his story telling abilities wasn't very great in reading the... Let's say, women's emotions, which caused the Madam to hyperventilate.
[ ... ]
[ "Lady, I told you I'll be fine. So, please, why do you have to come along?!" ] Felix who's dressed to the teeth in a rugged suit that matches his hair could be seen standing in front of the orphanage — a suitcase on hand that is slightly difficult for him to carry. His eyes looking to the side, at the Matron who have forced him to wear this such clothing.
His hair that have always been messy, now combed slicked back, reminiscent of an aristocrat about to go into a dinner ball, or about to meet a high class official, or boss.
But in the case of Felix he wouldn't meet one, but instead the tour guide of theirs, Professor Slughorn; [ "Stop that, Felix. You'll mess up your hair." ]
His hands could be seen being swatted away by her as she looks at him sternly, [ "And stand up straight will you." ] Forced to stand up straight, something he doesn't like doing. So with not being able to do anything against the tyrant, he in response just kept his hands on his trousers — the trouser being slightly uncomfortable.
How long do we have to wait?
Felix asks himself as he looks up at the neatly dressed Matron, wearing a hat that ladies usually wear in preparation for a date, or a picnic. This being neither of the two, as they are currently waiting for Professor Slughorn to lead them to the Diagon Alley that he have been talking about for hours and hours for no end a couple of days ago.
The both of them having been waiting in the street for what felt like eternity, but in actuality only being 5 minutes now. The agreed upon time being 11:00AM, the current time being... 10:35AM.
To say nonetheless that the Matron who forced him to wake up at 8:00AM, get dressed multiple times due to changing of multiple clothes, and stuffing him with food to the brim is excited — is in actuality an understatement. She is REALLY excited to see first-hand the magical world that have been told to her, and to Felix.
With not being able to do a thing, Felix could only repeatedly tap his shoes on the floor — the brown shoes having been shined the day prior, him having been forced to do so. As he looks at the road in front of him, cars passing by, people walking across, or passing.
And a couple of strays, like a trash bandit passing by — some he having recognized being regulars in this street of theirs. [ "Hey, I think that's Tom right there." ] He pointed at a tuxedo cat passing by across the street, the cat having been recognized by him.
[ "And there goes Tom..." ] Which sooner than later went and disappeared out of his and the Matron's sight. He followed the trail of the cat, and noticed the alleyway it disappeared into seemingly shooked slightly — the air around it he meant, which both felt weird, and looked weird to him... Is my vision going bad?
Wavy lines aren't a good sign for a young boy, especially one that values his eye sight. He looked at the darkness of the alley way again and noticed the wavy lines disappearing bit-by-bit as if water, being swept by the wave. The wavy lines straighting before finally disappearing completely.
The lines weren't that stand out, which made Felix felt slightly delusional, or weird. But that key factor was enough to gain the limited, and short attention of his, and entertain him slightly — in not being able to explain what that wavy lines meant, Felix ultimately decided to refocus his attention on other entertaining matters.
And that is about colorful cars passing by in front of him... Red, blue, red again, oh, red agai- But his attention was cut short when he heard a cat shriek out loud from the street that he was previously looking at — most likely Tom, or some other relative of his — and not sooner than later, a cat; Tom! He recognizes, could be seen running in high speed from where he came from. Right across the street from where Felix and the Matron is standing at...
What's happening here?
Felix's gaze went and befall once again at the mysterious alleyway that have piqued his intrest some time ago, now having done that twice in a single day. He looked at it, [ "What the h-?" ] And before he could utter a sentence, a well-dressed man, who looks like a walrus covered in luxurious clothing could be seen walking out of it.
This man is of course the one they are waiting for, the one and only Professor of Potions for Hogwarts — and the current guide of theirs. Professor Horace Slughorn, the wizard who looks dishelved slightly due to the dust, and trash around his clothes, a banana peel sitting on the side of his shoulders, which ruined the appeal of the high luxury suit he is currently wearing, one which is seemingly glistering if one we're to pay close attention.
[ "Hey..." ] Felix was about to wave at the guy, but he doubted his eyes if ever this is the same man who explained to him in great detail the interesting aspects of the Wizarding World, or just a drunk wearing expensive clothes having woke up in an alleyway after a night of fun. [ "Is that Professor Slughorn?" ]
That couldn't be him, could it?
