Chapter 957 957: Cassie's Rescue Strategy
Shino was the one spearheading the meeting. The council suddenly stopped talking when two figures entered the meeting hall.
"Our guardian leader!" Everyone gasped upon seeing Liam in his healthy condition. His look didn't change. He stood out among the warriors inside the hall. Everyone was admiring him.
They even bowed and kneeled to greet him, giving courtesy to their former guardian leader. But Liam motioned for them to rise. He was no longer the Guardian Leader. And he just wanted to live simply. He wasn't even expecting to return to this world.
"I want to extend my deepest apologies for the turmoil that has affected our entire clan. I believe this conflict could have been avoided if I had returned together with Riyu and the others. I hold myself accountable for part of this strife. Riyu's passing weighs heavily on me. Her death is a consequence of my actions," Liam solemnly addressed the assembled members.
He was aware of the circumstances surrounding Riyu's fate.
Riyu had perished because she had stood by Liam's conviction that the demon god and the demon god's daughter were virtuous individuals.
"I am committed to making amends for my shortcomings as your leader. It's my responsibility to rectify this situation, reunite our clan, and put an end to this war," Liam declared resolutely, determined to initiate reconciliation and restore unity within their clan.
"But… what we want is revenge. Many of our fellow members died. Innocent people died because of the other side's greediness in power. They are murderers. No longer a guardian. A guardian should protect people not harm them." Shino spoke up on behalf of the whole council.
They wanted revenge for the death of their comrades.
"No, please! Putting an end to this cycle of revenge is crucial!" Cassie interjected urgently, her voice tinged with concern. She felt compelled to intervene, hoping to prevent further escalation.
"Revenge will never bring you victory. It will only result in your further loss. Do you want more people to die?" she added in her firm voice.
Everyone's attention was now focused on her. Others didn't recognize her, murmuring with each other. "Who is she?"
"I didn't come here to help you kill!" Cassie emphasized.
"Who are you?" One elder finally asked Cassie's identity.
It did not take long when another two people showed up– Justine and Eric.
"She is from the descendants of the demon god. His granddaughter, Cassie." Justine introduced Cassie's identity to everyone.
The meeting hall was engulfed by silence when they heard that. So she was the demon god's granddaughter whom Justine and Eric had brought into this world.
"So how are we going to stop this war? We are being chased by the other clan. They are hell-bent on obliterating us! If we don't fight back then we are going to die. So how are we supposed to protect ourselves from their threats?" Shino questioned her.
"Don't worry, everyone. We have a great advantage. Liam is here! The most powerful guardian warrior!" Cassie moved forward, wrapping her arm around Liam's shoulders.
Liam: "..."
'What is she saying? I'm no longer powerful. I lose some of my powers. And I am still recovering from Mheera's curse.' Liam thought to himself as he smiled awkwardly. Cassie's words were giving him a lot of pressure. He was afraid that convincing the opposing side wouldn't be easy.
"And furthermore, I am here! I will protect everyone with my Firepower. I have a dependable ally here. Scarlet!" Cassie confidently declared to them.
Everyone: "..."
Elder 1: "She's a bit shameless."
Elder 2: "Too arrogant. She inherits her grandfather's arrogance."
Elder 3: "She is indeed demon god's bloodline."
After the long silence, everyone burst into a peal of laughter, lightening the mood and atmosphere inside the meeting hall.
"So what is your plan?" Shino inquired, curious about what she was about to say.
"Hmm. I heard that the opposing sides have hostages. That's our main priority. We should rescue them first! But not everyone is allowed to do this mission. We will only select a few people who will join us." Cassie suggested to the group.
"I agree with her. We should rescue them first. But we will not fight them head-on. We should do this discreetly. So a few members will do. We can't afford to attract their attention if we go there in a large group." Liam supported Cassie's idea.
"True. We must avoid fighting them. But we must sneak into their headquarters, gather the necessary information, and rescue the hostages safe and sound. So what do you think?" Cassie still consulted the council. They would be the ones to decide whether they would follow Cassie's strategy.
"We have to vote!" Shino turned to their members, especially the elders. He wanted to hear the opinions of others. He knew that this would be a dangerous mission. And they only needed to select a few members. What if they suddenly got cornered by the opposing side? They might undergo intense torture and die.
"How many people do you need?" Another elder raised a question.
"I think… five people are enough," Cassie replied nonchalantly.
Everyone couldn't believe what they heard. Only five people?! This is suicide!
"Don't underestimate their powers, demon god's—"
"Just call me Cassie." She interjected. She didn't like the way they sounded too formal.
"Trust me. I know they are powerful, that's why I'm only bringing three men from the group. Who is willing to join Liam and me? Remember, our strategy is sneaking in and out, not fighting them head-on. We don't need a lot of fighters. Understood?"
When Cassie said those words, the council finally understood her motive.
"I'll join you. I will rescue my grandma myself," Justine volunteered first.
"I'll come," Eric also stepped forward.
"Good. Now we only need one more member." Cassie's eyes scanned the meeting hall, waiting for one last volunteer.
"Fine. I'll accompany you." Shino also volunteered. As the leader of this clan, he felt the need to do something.
But Cassie immediately rejected him. "You can't come. You must stay behind and oversee the situation here. You are the Clan Leader. The members need your presence here. Besides, we need strong fighters to serve as your guards and protectors here."
This time majority of the elders agreed with Cassie's words. Shino was the only pillar left. He should lead them as they waited for their fellow members to be rescued by Cassie's team.
One elder volunteered on behalf of their clan leader. "I'm familiar with the terrain going to their headquarters. I will guide you there."
"Good! Now, we must prepare for our journey," Cassie said excitedly. She couldn't wait to do this mission.
"Oh, one more thing… I would like also to group everyone… the women, the children, and the old people shall stay in the barracks. No one is allowed to leave this place. Assign some guards that will monitor the surrounding areas."
"I'll also put a strong barrier that will protect this barracks from intruders. If someone attacks this barrier, I can feel it right away. Rest assured that I will teleport here as soon as I sense some intruders. But I will leave Scarlet behind as the main guard of our barracks, including my new friend."
After saying those words, Cassie summoned Scarlet 'the firefox', and the Giant Spider Beast. Everyone was amazed when they saw the two powerful creatures.
"Oh my gosh! I think… we are safe here. Thanks to the demon god's granddaughter! She is truly dependable."
