The CEO's Hidden Wife

Chapter 10: Reconciliation

The days following their strained conversation felt like an emotional fog that Lena couldn't escape. The distance between her and Dominic had only deepened, and it seemed as though nothing could bridge the gap that now separated them. She spent her days in the office, working diligently, but the weight of their unresolved tension was always there, lurking just beneath the surface. She could feel it in the way her colleagues avoided mentioning anything personal about her or Dominic. It was as though everyone around her could sense the fragile state of her marriage, and no one knew how to navigate the delicate line between professionalism and concern.

But it wasn't just the office. Her personal life had become a quiet battlefield as well. At night, she lay awake in bed, replaying their argument in her mind. She thought about the things she should have said, the things she wished she had done differently. Yet, no matter how much she dissected the conversation, the conclusion was always the same—she had hurt Dominic, and the cracks in their relationship had become irreparable.

That was, until one evening when everything changed.

It was just after work hours when Lena's phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen, surprised to see a message from Dominic. He had barely communicated with her since their last conversation, and seeing his name on the screen sent a wave of mixed emotions crashing over her.

We need to talk. I'll be at your apartment in 30 minutes.

Lena's heart skipped a beat. She didn't know what to expect, but she couldn't ignore the uneasy flutter in her chest. She had no idea what Dominic wanted or how this conversation would unfold, but she knew one thing for certain: it was time to face the truth. No more running. No more avoiding the problem.

She quickly tidied up her apartment, her thoughts a whirlwind as she tried to prepare for whatever Dominic had to say. A part of her wanted to believe that he had come to a resolution, that the distance between them would somehow fade away with a single conversation. But another part of her feared that the rift would only widen, that this would be the beginning of the end for their marriage.

When the doorbell rang, Lena's heart pounded in her chest. She took a deep breath before opening the door, finding Dominic standing there, his expression unreadable. He wasn't wearing his usual sharp suit—today, he had opted for a more casual look, his dark shirt unbuttoned at the collar, his sleeves rolled up. He looked tired, like he hadn't slept properly in days, but there was something else in his eyes. Something vulnerable, a hint of the man she had started to see in their earlier conversations—the man behind the CEO mask.

Without saying a word, he stepped inside, and Lena closed the door behind him. She wasn't sure what to expect, but the silence between them felt heavier than anything she had experienced in their marriage thus far.

"I've been thinking," Dominic began, his voice low, "about everything."

Lena nodded, unable to speak, her throat tight with anticipation.

"I don't want to keep fighting with you," he continued, glancing around the room as though searching for the right words. "I don't want us to be like this. I know I pushed you away... and I shouldn't have."

Lena blinked, caught off guard by his words. She had expected him to continue with his anger, his frustration, but instead, there was an openness to him that she hadn't seen before. It was as though he had finally let down his guard, allowing her to see the man beneath the CEO façade.

"I shouldn't have pushed you away like that," he repeated, his voice softer now. "I've been so focused on my own issues that I didn't consider what you were going through. This marriage wasn't just about business for you, and I never took the time to understand that."

Lena took a step forward, her heart swelling with emotion. She had never expected him to apologize. He had always been so sure of himself, so driven by his own goals and ambitions. But now, in this moment, he seemed genuinely remorseful.

"I've been holding on to my own pain, my own pride," Dominic continued. "And I've made things worse, haven't I? I've kept you at a distance when I should've been trying to understand you, trying to make this work."

Lena swallowed hard, her eyes filling with tears she hadn't expected. She nodded slowly, the weight of his words sinking in.

"Yes," she whispered, her voice trembling. "But it's not just you. I've been holding back too. I've been hiding my true self from you, afraid of what you might think. I was so focused on protecting my own heart that I didn't give you a chance to truly know me."

Dominic took a step closer, his gaze softening. He reached out, gently cupping her cheek, his touch surprisingly tender.

"I want to know you, Lena. All of you. I want us to try again. To be real with each other."

For a moment, neither of them spoke. The room seemed to hold its breath as they stood in the quiet, the weight of their past mistakes hanging between them. But in that silence, something shifted. The tension, the walls they had both built around themselves, began to crumble. There was still so much to work through, so much damage to heal, but for the first time in a long time, Lena believed that there was a chance. A chance for them to rebuild what they had broken.

"I'm willing to try," she said, her voice steady but full of emotion. "But we have to be honest with each other, Dominic. No more secrets. No more pretending."

He nodded, his hand still resting on her cheek. "No more pretending. I promise."

The moment hung between them like a fragile thread, but it was enough. It was the first step toward healing, toward reconciliation. They still had a long road ahead of them, but for the first time, Lena felt like maybe, just maybe, they could make it through together.
