Chapter 15: Animal Farm
It had only taken three seconds. The sword in Callum's hand had glowed with a brilliant blue light, he had swung it exactly 132 times, and he had split the Sun Tree into 132 separate pieces—all in just three seconds.
Luke's body trembled at the sight.
There was no need to describe the elves' astonishment. After all, they had only heard stories—the hundreds of tales that had turned Callum Cestis into a legend.
At the age of two, he had managed to infuse his wooden sword with mana. By the age of four, he had become a semi-master in over a hundred sword techniques, and by the age of eight, he had mastered over a thousand sword techniques.
At the age of 12, he had cleared the dungeon that was said to be impossible to clear, which released thousands of monsters into the outside world every year in the east of the capital, making the capital a safer place.
By the age of fourteen, there was no one in the entire empire who could stand against him. Whether elves, dwarves, half-demons, half-humans, or other beings—none could withstand Callum.
He had chosen to serve the empire's light, Luke, from the moment he was born.
Yet he had the power to establish a duchy... no, a kingdom for himself whenever he wanted.
He was the only man known as the definition of magic, the one whom even the dragons, the heirs of the gods and goddesses, respected...
One of the three Sages of the empire, the right-hand man of Luke Ibn Alphonsine Hiera.
The Sword Sage, Callum Cestis.
'Everything is ready, Your Majesty. If you permit, I would like to leave Kevin with you for protection tonight. After all, the Sun Tree root is something that can be replanted and grow again. It will be quite difficult to remove it from its place without damaging the root.'
Callum sheathed his sword and smiled at Luke. Luke's smile did not fade for even a second.
'Do as you wish. You talk as if I'm constantly giving you orders,' Luke said jokingly.
Callum smiled and began filling the magic bag he carried at his waist with pieces of the Sun Tree around the root, then started digging the soil, carefully separating each piece of earth leading to the root that extended metres below the surface.
Luke, meanwhile, told the elves to continue cutting down the trees and urged them to be careful not to damage the Sun Tree or anything else, even if it was unlikely to happen.
The trees in this area were of high quality. Perhaps they weren't as good as the wood Luke had obtained from the shop panel, but they were still of excellent quality. They weren't even close to being that good, but their quality was such that they could be sold for silver coins once processed.
The strange part was that these trees were still fully alive in such a cold environment. Not only that, but they were also quite sturdy, with no signs of insect damage inside.
The Shop panel could use the items in Luke's inventory to create something for less money than what he had.
This meant, of course, that Luke could use these logs for much better purposes.
When he left the elves and Callum alone and returned to the village, he called Theodas and Kevin to him, then went to an area of the village that was far from the mansion, close to the walls, and near the houses of the villagers.
Luke handed the sketch he had drawn to Kevin and said, 'Begin.' Without hesitation, Kevin immediately started melting the snow in an area of nearly two thousand square metres.
The time had come for the next phase of Luke's plan.
He needed a place to produce food and drink for the inns and similar entertainment, accommodation, and food areas he would create in the village as part of his plan to establish a trade centre.
This was not only necessary for the trade centre but also for the villagers.
That was precisely why Luke would create a farm where he could grow crops when he obtained the Sun Tree fragments from Callum.
Now, however, he wanted to establish an animal farm.
The sole reason he wanted to do this in an area close to the human villagers was not because he cared more about them than the elves… Luke simply felt sorry for them. Women who had lost their husbands, mothers who had lost their sons, and children who had lost their fathers.
Each of them was heartbreaking.
That was precisely why Luke wanted to create a living space especially for them.
When the time came for the village to become a town, and perhaps even a small city, Luke wanted to establish a system that would allow the villagers to make a living in a perfectly normal way.
Of course, everything would belong to Luke, but at least the villagers could engage in farming and animal husbandry.
"Theodas, what I want you to do is observe whether there is any contamination beneath the soil once the profitable land in the area has been cleared," Luke had ordered suddenly.
The young elf nodded and, in order to carry out his task, walked to the centre of the vast area of land that Kevin had burned and dried, and stuck his hand into the soil.
After just a minute, Theodas replied, 'There's no problem, my lord.'
Luke yawned and then opened the shop panel, browsing through it for a while. Perhaps after three minutes, he found the panel section he was looking for and began to go through the settlements one by one with his finger.
In less than twenty seconds, he found the settlement marked 'Large Animal Farm Settlement.'
The settlement was made up of areas covered in white wood, iron that wouldn't harm the animals or emit odours, and red paint, and contained four houses made of stone and wood. It wasn't just two thousand square metres, but four thousand square metres.
When Luke noticed this, he had Kevin and Theodas fix everything, and after a half-hour wait, the settlement's map was added to the ground.
In short, a four-thousand-square-metre animal farm had been created.
For just under a hundred.
