Chapter 14: Sun Tree
The next day, Luke arrived with 110 elves who could wield axes properly and headed towards the forest on the right.
After purchasing 220 iron axes, several sharpening stones, and enough food and drink for everyone from the Shop Panel, it was time to get to work.
Today, there was heavy snowfall. Seriously, it was incredibly heavy snowfall, accompanied by equally dense fog. Though working in such weather was dangerous, the fog posed no problem for the elves, whose eyesight was extraordinary.
After providing them with the highest-quality clothing available in the Shop Panel—everything needed to keep them warm—it was time to begin work.
"CHOP! CHOP! CHOP!"
"TUNK! TUNK! TUNK!"
The sounds of dozens of axes striking dozens of trees echoed throughout the forest.
Nearly fifty elves had come from the village to help and keep watch. It was necessary to eliminate any possibility of danger, at least for now.
As the trees began to fall one after another within minutes, the elves who had been given the magic bags Luke had taken from his shop panel before going to sleep the night before began loading the thin, massive trees, some as tall as twenty or even thirty metres, into the magic bags and then leaving them in the area in front of the village.
There was a distance of about three hundred metres between the village and the forested area, which explained why it was easy to come and go.
The most important point of clearing the area was to increase Luke's external security, that is, to enable him to build structures in a wider area.
Of course, there were multiple points, but this was the most obvious one.
The elves continued to cut down trees, while the remaining members of the group dug up tree roots that extended several metres below the snow-covered ground.
Since the village was not located in a mountainous area, there was no risk of erosion or other natural disasters.
There were only a few dangers in the area. While hunger, cold, and similar hardships were major issues, as long as Luke was there, nothing would cause trouble.
"THUCK!"
Suddenly, a loud metallic sound pierced everyone's ears, and many elves, due to their keen hearing, dropped their axes and covered their ears.
Even Luke had covered his ears for a few seconds because of the ringing in his ears.
When he looked in the direction of the sound to see what was happening, he saw an elf who had fainted and was foaming at the mouth.
"What the hell?" Luke muttered and immediately called a few elves over, ordering them to take the unconscious elf back to the village and inform Kevin that he had been given orders to take care of him.
The elves obeyed him, and Luke began to examine the area with the remaining elves.
Shortly after, Luke noticed that the iron axe was shattered and there was a mark left on the tree. After getting closer to the tree the unconscious elf had been trying to cut down, Luke realised it was from beneath the tree.
He had never seen anything like this before. He had never heard of a tree made of gold, and to be honest, he was very curious to know if there were more of these trees.
Still, that wasn't what he needed to focus on right now. The sound was so thick and unpleasant that it had disturbed some of the elves and even caused foam to come out of one of their mouths.
He had no idea how to remove this tree from here. It wasn't like processed gold. It truly looked like a tree made of gold.
To be honest, it was a strange sight. Nevertheless, it wouldn't be wrong to say it was very valuable.
Luke looked directly at one of the elves standing next to him and ordered him to call Callum.
Just a few minutes later, when Callum ran over to Luke, he began watching the tree with his mouth open, following Luke's gesture.
After noticing Luke Callum's strange behaviour, he asked, "Do you know what this is?"
Callum shook his head up and down and replied, "A Sun Tree, sir."
"A Sun Tree?" Luke asked with a puzzled expression.
"That's right, Your Majesty. I wouldn't say it's extremely rare, but it's still quite rare. Sun Trees have special heating properties. They are trees that grow in cold environments, particularly in polar regions. Farmers in cold regions often use the stones formed when the Sun Trees break to cultivate their fields. Since they are expensive, usually the lord of the environment is the ones who give those trees to the farmers." Callum explained.
"Huh…" Luke muttered. He had been thinking about how to grow crops if they were to establish a farm, and now the answer had literally come to him.
"But how will we break this tree?" Luke asked calmly.
"Leave it to me, Your Majesty. You know what my gift is. There are very few things in this world I cannot cut," Callum replied, and upon hearing this, Luke stepped back and told the elves they needed to come with him.
Callum immediately drew his sword from its sheath and took a deep breath.
This was the thing Luke enjoyed seeing the most when he was a child. To be honest, when Luke was younger, he would constantly bully Callum into using his gift.
Callum possessed such a captivating gift.
His gift allowed him to transform the mana in his body into a fine pattern and transfer it to his sword.
But it didn't stop there. Callum's mana was so immense that if he had attempted to become a mage within the 'Magic Tower,' he would have already attained the title of 'Elder.'
Nevertheless, he had chosen to serve the Hieras, especially Luke.
When the mana in Callum's body began to flow out, the knight's gaze became serious, and the sword in his hand began to glow.
This was one of the sights Luke loved to see the most.
