Chapter 498: Chapter 499: The Resurrection of Yahiko
With a tremendous crash, a green figure burst forth from the rubble, scattering dust in every direction as powerful chakra surged around him.
"So, you survived after all… the Tenseigan mode, huh?" Observing the overwhelming chakra emanating from Toneri Ōtsutsuki, Daniel's expression grew serious.
If it had been anyone else, they wouldn't have escaped his surprise attack. Suddenly striking mid-conversation bordered on a sneak attack, and Toneri had dodged only because he perceived people through chakra rather than sight, having no actual eyes. This allowed him to detect Daniel's sudden shift and react accordingly.
For Daniel, visual perception remained crucial. Even though he had Observation Haki, habitually he relied on his sight when dealing with nearby enemies. Breaking this habit would require blinding himself, something he would never do. Daniel still wanted to enjoy the beauty of the world around him—especially the beautiful women. Watching them with his own eyes was an experience that Haki could never match.
"Speaking of which, I remember that the Tenseigan on the moon is formed from a collection of numerous Byakugan. Why not take a pair of those for myself?" With this idea in mind, Daniel retreated as Toneri launched his next attack.
"Silver Wheel Reincarnation Explosion!" Toneri murmured, and powerful green chakra shaped itself into a massive tornado. The fierce wind immediately began tearing apart the surrounding structures of Dragon Palace.
"Impressive—reaching super-Kage level in an instant." As the tornado, laden with debris, bore down on him, Daniel raised his right hand and unleashed a powerful sword strike that split the tornado down the middle, diverting it to either side.
No sooner had he done so than Toneri raised his hand, gathering countless giant rocks that coalesced into a massive stone golem over twenty meters tall. The golem hurled itself toward Daniel.
Unfazed by the descending colossus, Daniel sent out a flurry of sword slashes, slicing through the golem mid-air. As its pieces tumbled down, the rocks reassembled into the golem on the ground.
"The Tenseigan truly rivals the Rinnegan in power." The stone golem's regenerative abilities were formidable. Like Edo Tensei, it was nearly indestructible unless the caster was defeated.
"It's your turn to shine," Daniel said as a small pink dragon emerged from his body, rapidly transforming into a massive dragon nearly a hundred meters long, exuding an imposing aura. This dragon, created by Dr. Vegapunk's artificial Devil Fruit, had already developed some of a true dragon's powers, including control over the elements.
Such a powerful fruit had been wasted on Momonosuke in another timeline. With his lack of strength, he could only stay in his cute form forever.
As the pink dragon unleashed scorching flames from its mouth, the stone golem melted into a pool of magma, evaporating into the air. Although the golem's stones were resilient, they could still be destroyed if subjected to enough damage. In this regard, the stone golem fell short of Edo Tensei.
"Two dragons fighting—now that would be a spectacle," Daniel mused, thinking of his pink dragon clashing with Kaido's blue dragon.
"Golden Wheel Reincarnation Explosion." Seeing his attacks continually countered, Toneri's face darkened. He summoned a massive green chakra sword from one of the Truth-Seeking Balls floating behind him. As more chakra poured in, the chakra sword grew larger and brighter.
"This guy is relying solely on the Tenseigan's chakra… his combat experience is sorely lacking." Watching the enormous sword descend toward him, Daniel withheld his dragon and struck out with his own blade, meeting Toneri's sword head-on.
The collision of sword and chakra sword cracked the ground beneath Daniel, spreading fissures across the landscape and sending shockwaves that shook distant lunar mountains, causing them to collapse.
When the dust settled, Daniel found himself standing at the edge of a colossal crater hundreds of meters deep and nearly a kilometer in diameter.
"This doesn't seem as powerful as it looked in the original story. Could it be because he doesn't have actual eyes? Perhaps the Hyūga clan are the true descendants of Hamura Ōtsutsuki, and the moon's branch family are the outsiders."
It seemed odd that Toneri had sought to take Hanabi Hyūga's eyes, especially with so many Byakugan at his disposal on the moon. And the chakra sword's power had fallen short of its potential, lacking the force to split the moon in half as it should have. Daniel had even prepared to use Flying Thunder God to dodge if needed. Instead, his sword strike overpowered Toneri's chakra sword, piercing through and shattering Toneri's Tenseigan Chakra Mode.
The green chakra surrounding Toneri dispersed under the assault, protecting him from death but leaving him gravely injured.
"Should I kill him?" Daniel mused, pulling the heavily injured Toneri from the fractured wall. After a moment's thought, he decided to try another approach.
"Better to test this," he muttered, abandoning his plan to kill Toneri. The moon served as an ideal vantage point for monitoring future intrusions from other Ōtsutsuki clan members, such as Momoshiki, Kinshiki, and Urashiki. With the Tenseigan, Toneri might even hold his ground against these invaders. In the original story, Toneri was only so easily sealed because Naruto and Hinata had destroyed his Tenseigan.
The Ōtsutsuki were powerful, but not invincible. The later five Kage were able to face Momoshiki together, putting him around the level of Sage of Six Paths Madara.
As for Urashiki, his power was uncertain. The infamous Ōtsutsuki elbow drop and Uchiha body slam were rather… unimpressive.
"Kotoamatsukami." To prevent Toneri from attempting to crash the moon into the Shinobi World, Daniel used Shisui Uchiha's Kotoamatsukami to alter his intent.
"I see," Toneri murmured as Daniel divulged secrets about the Ōtsutsuki that even Toneri himself hadn't known. Pledging to remain on the moon as a sentinel, Toneri would now guard against any future threats from his clan.
"No need to worry; they'll take quite some time to arrive. By then, we may not need to worry about them at all." In the Boruto era, the Ōtsutsuki appeared, but by then, Daniel's power would have grown significantly, possibly allowing him to release Kaguya.
"This Tenseigan is truly spectacular, but better admired from afar." From a distance, the giant eye on the moon's surface appeared vast and imposing, though up close, it was unsettling to see so many Byakugan merged into a single massive eye.
"It seems the Hyūga clan are indeed Hamura Ōtsutsuki's true heirs, directly linked to the moon's branch family." During the era of Hagoromo and Hamura, contact between the Shinobi World and the moon was frequent. Hamura had left descendants in the Shinobi World as well.
Originally, there had been a teleportation array between the two worlds, set up by the brothers Hagoromo and Hamura.
After their deaths, however, the teleportation array was suddenly destroyed, severing ties between the Shinobi World and the moon.
At first, the descendants of Hamura on the moon didn't worry much about the Shinobi World. Over time, though, some wanted to reconnect, and thus the Tenseigan project was initiated as a contingency plan.
When the Gedo Statue vanished from the moon, Hamura's descendants realized that something monumental had occurred in the Shinobi World. Their primary duty had been to guard Kaguya Ōtsutsuki's seal, so they opened a passageway to Earth with the Tenseigan.
This was the route Naruto and his friends later used in the original story. But by then, the Shinobi World had changed dramatically, and the descendants of Hagoromo and Hamura were no longer there.
Afterward, a major schism arose between the main and branch families of Hamura's descendants on the moon. If not for this division, Black Zetsu's plan might never have succeeded so smoothly.
"Could Black Zetsu have been involved in stirring things up?" Daniel wondered, listening to Toneri's account. The divide among Hamura's descendants mirrored the split in the Hyūga clan, minus the Caged Bird seal.
Without such a seal, the sudden division felt suspect. Black Zetsu had always excelled at sowing discord, influencing everything from the Ashura-Indra feud to the extinction of the Uzumaki clan.
Some of these facts Daniel had confirmed directly with Black Zetsu; others he merely inferred.
"At this point, it doesn't matter."
"The true Tenseigan… Hinata may not care much about power, so perhaps I should train Hanabi instead." After collecting Toneri's notes on puppet techniques, Daniel left the moon. Though Toneri's library contained many documents, few held any real interest for him. In Hagoromo's era, jutsu were still rudimentary, far from the variety of techniques developed later. Back then, power alone determined strength.
In a world like Qin's Moon, the range of martial techniques couldn't compare to the diversity seen in The Outcast.
"This Tenseigan really is remarkable. That distance was covered so quickly." On his way back, Daniel chose not to use the Gate of Secrecy or the Quinjet, instead taking a route opened by the Rinnegan.
"Clan leader Hyūga, care to talk?" Upon his return, Daniel went directly to Leaf Village to
meet with Hiashi Hyūga.
"Very well." Hiashi's expression was complicated. Daniel had brought Hiashi's brother Hizashi back as a controlled entity, giving the brothers a chance to reunite and helping Neji find closure. For that, Hiashi was grateful.
Yet the fact that Daniel controlled Hizashi's life left Hiashi uneasy. No one wants a loved one's life held in another's hands, even if they've already passed.
"Hanabi… the Tenseigan." Hiashi was stunned after hearing Daniel's suggestion. As the clan head, he knew of the family's origins, though the Byakugan had shown no signs of evolution. Unlike the Sharingan, with its various stages, the Byakugan appeared the same regardless of the user's level.
"Please, go ahead." After a long silence, Hiashi's tone shifted to one of respect. If someone from the Hyūga could awaken the Tenseigan, their clan's status would be secured indefinitely.
"Rest assured, regardless of the outcome, I will guarantee Hanabi's safety."
"You intend to revive Yahiko?" Upon returning to Rain Village with Hanabi, Daniel was informed by Nagato of his decision.
"Is now the right time? It's possible," Daniel replied thoughtfully, ultimately agreeing. Konan looked at Nagato with concern. While she was thrilled at the idea of Yahiko's resurrection, as they might have married had things turned out differently, she also cared deeply about Nagato's well-being.
Daniel could have revived Yahiko himself, but Nagato, likely driven by guilt, insisted on using the Rinne Rebirth Technique to bring him back. Not even Konan could dissuade him.
Fortunately, with Nagato's Uzumaki heritage and the added strength of Hashirama's cells, resurrecting a single person shouldn't strain him too much. And should anything go wrong, Daniel would be there to watch over him.
