Chapter 490: Chapter 490: War Reparations (Conclusion)
After spending a significant amount of time in the ninja world, Daniel Davis had come to a clear realization through various investigations: the people of the Five Great Ninja Villages largely focused solely on the well-being of their own villages. Expecting them to have a broader vision and care for the entire ninja world was simply unrealistic.
On the contrary, it was often the rogue ninjas of the Five Great Ninja Villages, or those unaffiliated with any of these villages, who had a broader view. Yahiko and Nagato were such people.
Hoshigaki Kisame was another example. Kisame was a ruthless character who, in the original story, chose to summon a shark to consume himself rather than risk capture and potentially reveal Obito's plans. Such was his conviction that Uchiha Madara could bring genuine peace to the ninja world.
The Five Great Ninja Villages, by comparison, operated differently. Even Jiraiya, who traveled widely in search of peace for the ninja world, still focused primarily on ending conflict between the Five Great Villages themselves.
In reality, the so-called "peace in the ninja world" was merely peace among the Five Great Villages. Whether or not peace extended to the Five Great Nations, other countries, or minor ninja villages was irrelevant.
"Protecting the Leaf Village and the Will of Fire—that's nothing but a joke, dear brother. Your so-called sacrifice of the Uchiha Clan for the peace of Konoha? It was a farce; the inevitable war still came," Sasuke said with a sudden burst of laughter, looking at Itachi's utterly surprised expression. Sasuke's feelings for his brother were incredibly complex, blending childhood admiration with deep-seated resentment.
In this emotional state, Sasuke displayed a knack for pinpointing and attacking Itachi's deepest convictions, much like Uchiha Madara himself. Konoha, the village itself, was something Itachi and the First Hokage both cherished deeply.
What was happening with Itachi was unclear to Daniel, but he knew the First Hokage was taking a heavy blow.
"Yes, understood. I'll be right over." Just as Daniel was about to say more to Itachi, he heard a message in his earpiece that made him pause and, without hesitation, he disappeared with a teleportation technique.
"That bastard Danzo really is ruthless." Daniel left Sasuke and Itachi because of a crisis back in Konoha. In the aftermath of Nagato's Shinra Tensei, the village had suffered heavy casualties and was virtually defenseless. Soon after, a seemingly endless swarm of black insects appeared in the village—Danzo's long-concealed forbidden technique.
Originally, Danzo had intended to use this forbidden jutsu to eliminate Tsunade's faction in one fell swoop. However, the battle had gone wildly off-course, and with the arrival of reanimated Second and Third Hokages, Danzo abandoned this opportunity to kill Tsunade. After all, given the current state of things, even if she returned alive, she would no longer be able to remain Hokage.
"Dealing with these endless swarms of poisonous insects would be almost impossible for most ninjas." The best way to handle the insects would be with fire-style jutsu, but given the sheer number of insects, wiping them out quickly with fire techniques was unlikely.
Allowing these poisonous insects to spread would be devastating for the Akatsuki and Amegakure. Not only could these insects kill people, but they could also pollute the environment. For example, if they reached the lakes around Amegakure, they could contaminate the water with poison.
While poison use in ninja combat wasn't restricted, the level of brutality in Danzo's insect-based poison technique was extreme.
"I'll leave this to you." Although the poisonous insects were difficult to deal with, Daniel had a simple solution. By dragging them into his mirrored dimension, he could contain them. Leaving his two shadow clones to manage the swarms in the air, he quickly flew toward the source of the insects.
"Danzo, so it really is you." Flying through the air, Daniel quickly located Danzo and his team on a mountain peak. At the summit, a massive pit continuously released the black insects into the air.
Just one glance at the pit made Daniel's expression darken. The pit was filled with corpses, most of whom, judging by their clothes, appeared to be civilians.
"Fire Style: Majestic Destroyer Flame!" Daniel formed a series of hand signs and unleashed a giant fireball toward the pit that was releasing the black insects.
"Fire Style: Dragon Flame Song Technique."
"Fire Style: Majestic Destroyer Flame."
Three powerful fire-style jutsu in quick succession engulfed the mountain peak in a sea of flames, taking out dozens of Danzo's subordinates, including Torune Aburame, who was behind the creation of the poison technique.
This time, Daniel didn't hold back. His powerful fire jutsu melted the entire mountain peak; the rocks turned to something like molten lava.
With the rock melting, there was no chance that Torune and the others would survive. Most of Danzo's subordinates were sent to the afterlife instantly, with only a few quick enough to escape the mountain top.
While his ice abilities aimed for absolute zero, his fire abilities thrived on intense heat. The knowledge Daniel had acquired from the Truth Gate of Steel Alchemy had made his fire-style jutsu the most potent in the ninja world—perhaps even surpassing that of Uchiha Madara.
"Fire Style: Majestic Destroyer Flame." To prevent Danzo's poison technique from contaminating the surrounding area, Daniel unleashed another round of Majestic Destroyer Flame.
"Mind Disturbance Technique!" As Daniel cast his fire-style jutsu on the mountain top, one of Danzo's subordinates from the Yamanaka clan attempted to use a secret mind control technique on him.
"What is this?" The Yamanaka member's face contorted in horror upon entering Daniel's mind. Before they could even scream, they were gone, leaving Yamanaka Fu lifeless, blood spilling from his mouth.
"Idiot," Daniel muttered with a smirk. Trying to play mind tricks on him was sheer arrogance.
The Yamanaka clan's technique involved invading others' consciousness, which, though powerful, had serious risks. If they invaded someone far stronger than themselves, it was essentially a death sentence.
"Fire Style: Dragon Flame Song Technique."
Yamanaka Fu's sudden attack made Daniel shift his focus toward Danzo and his remaining subordinates. Though he had promised to leave Danzo for Sasuke, he still intended to retrieve Shisui's other eye from Danzo. With that, he could finally reunite Shisui's Mangekyo Sharingan.
Hovering in the air, Daniel unleashed fire-style jutsu upon the remaining members of Danzo's Root organization. Given that only elite jonin were among Danzo's remaining group, few managed to escape.
"Wind Style: Great Vacuum Sphere." After enduring a series of attacks from above, Danzo finally lashed out, unleashing his most powerful wind-style technique.
The high-pressure wind sphere struck Daniel, sending him flying several dozen meters.
"Let's go." After seeing his attack land, Danzo hesitated momentarily, then ordered his subordinates to retreat, seeing no blood trail and suspecting Daniel had evaded serious injury.
"Quite the powerful technique," Daniel murmured after steadying himself. He had intentionally moved back to avoid Danzo's attack, using the opportunity to conceal himself.
Danzo was known for his use of Izanagi, and with Hashirama's cells embedded in his body, he could sustain it through the Sharingan implanted in his arm. Each Sharingan would grant him a minute of invincibility, but only if activated in time.
Choosing to stay hidden allowed Daniel to avoid Danzo activating Izanagi prematurely, thereby preserving Shisui's eye for him. As for Danzo, he couldn't keep Izanagi activated without a significant drain on his chakra reserves.
Years ago, Uchiha Izuna hadn't used Izanagi in his final battle with Tobirama due to severe chakra depletion. The lesson was clear: without enough chakra, not even Izanagi could be activated.
"Room—Slaughterhouse." Stalking Danzo from the shadows, Daniel spotted his target surrounded by four Root operatives. With a wave of his left hand, he swapped places with Danzo, pulling him directly in front of him and swiftly taking his right eye and right arm.
"Ah!" Danzo screamed in pain. Daniel hadn't softened the blow with his abilities; he had simply taken what he wanted.
"Lord Danzo!" Realizing the situation, two of the Root operatives charged at Daniel, while the other two rushed toward Danzo.
With his prize secure, Daniel swiftly leapt aside, leaving Danzo to his subordinates.
One of the Root operatives was already preparing a fire-style jutsu, but he and his partner were cut down by Daniel's Wood Style technique before they could complete their hand signs.
Despite their loyalty, Danzo's remaining guards met the same fate.
"Danzo, I've heard much about you." Daniel approached, stopping about three meters from the disabled Danzo.
"For the Leaf... for the ninja world... I must kill you." Gritting his teeth, Danzo revealed a hidden Four Symbols Seal on his chest, preparing to take Daniel down with him.
"Room." For most, there would be no way to stop Danzo's Four Symbols Seal. But Daniel split Danzo into pieces, neutralizing the seal without leaving him dead.
"Who... are you?" Danzo managed to gasp out, his disbelief palpable as he looked at his fragmented but still-living body.
"You don't need to know that," Daniel replied coldly before knocking Danzo out and piecing him back together. He'd promised Sasuke the final showdown, and Daniel kept his word.
"Actually, using my Op-Op Fruit ability for heart transplants could theoretically bring back Minato and others. If I swap the reanimated bodies' hearts with living ones, what kind of effects could we get?"
Contemplating his newfound options with the Op-Op Fruit, Daniel realized that he could now perform these transplants without needing to involve any complex soul-transference techniques.
"Now, let's discuss reparations." With Danzo captured, Daniel returned to find the four Kage of the Great Ninja Villages also detained. The Fourth Raikage, A, was notably absent, having succumbed to his injuries.
As for dealing with the battlefield aftermath, the Akatsuki entrusted the cleanup and organization to the combined forces of the ninja alliance.
"What is it you want?" asked the Third Tsuchikage, Onoki, after glancing around at the other Kage and his subordinates, including Kurotsuchi.
"First and foremost, we'll need access to each village's Book of Seals."
