Chapter 482: Chapter 480: The Defeat of the Five Great Shinobi Villages (Part 2)
The Aburame clan, one of the founding families of Konoha, had played a significant role in every major shinobi war. Their insect techniques far surpassed those of the Kamizuru clan, demonstrating their superiority. The Aburame's Parasitic Insects were incredibly versatile, excelling in reconnaissance, sensory detection, medical support, offense, and defense. In terms of long-range detection, the Aburame insects had a much wider range than even the Hyuga clan's Byakugan or the Inuzuka clan's abilities—while the Byakugan could observe up to a kilometer, Aburame's insects could cover distances of over ten kilometers.
In addition to the standard insect users, the Aburame clan also harbored a hidden power—poisonous insects. This was a forbidden technique within the clan itself.
The Kudoku Technique, the Aburame clan's forbidden jutsu, utilized a massive number of lives to breed an enormous swarm of poisonous insects. With enough time and lives sacrificed, these insects could annihilate entire nations. Normally, Konoha would never employ such a method, but Danzo, being ruthless, had no qualms about sacrificing lives. In preparation for this assault on Amegakure, Danzo had long since set the Kudoku Technique in motion, using Root members to breed the deadly swarm.
However, Danzo's ambition stretched far beyond just Amegakure. He aimed to use this rare opportunity to eliminate not only Amegakure but also several other great shinobi villages, including the Hokage's faction within Konoha, laying the groundwork for his eventual domination of the shinobi world.
Akatsuki's bold proclamations about reshaping the shinobi world had stirred up the ambitions of people like Danzo, who now saw the entire ninja world as a target.
"Summoning Jutsu!" As soon as Jiraiya appeared in the plaza, he bit his left thumb and summoned Gamabunta. Facing Nagato, who wielded the Rinnegan, Jiraiya knew he couldn't afford to hold back. From the start, he had decided to fight with all his strength for Konoha.
"Jiraiya, what's going on with that kid?" Gamabunta grumbled, his tone full of annoyance.
"Not now! We have more important things to deal with," Jiraiya said, tapping Gamabunta's head, his voice solemn.
"You're unusually serious today," Gamabunta remarked, taken aback by Jiraiya's demeanor. He followed Jiraiya's gaze to Nagato and froze when he saw the Rinnegan.
"Jiraiya, is that what I think it is? Why are we up against the owner of those eyes?" Gamabunta recognized the legendary Rinnegan immediately.
"Long story. I need you to buy me some time," Jiraiya replied, his hands already clasped in preparation for something big.
"Are you planning to use that? I'll do my best," Gamabunta agreed, understanding the gravity of the situation. There was no time for jokes in the face of the Rinnegan.
"Sage Mode, huh? If it were any other time, Jiraiya-sensei, I would have given you the chance. But today, I'm afraid not. Shinra Tensei," Nagato said, lifting his hand. A powerful repulsive force shot out, sending the massive Gamabunta flying tens of meters into the air.
"What unbelievable power! Jiraiya, how did you end up fighting someone like this? I don't think I can buy you enough time," Gamabunta said, shocked, as he spun helplessly through the air. Having fought in the Second and Third Great Shinobi Wars and against the likes of Hanzo, Gamabunta had faced many formidable foes, but none compared to Nagato's sheer strength. He had been gravely injured in just one hit.
Jiraiya was equally stunned. He had known about the Rinnegan, but he had no idea it was this powerful. After all, when Nagato had been a child, he hadn't been able to fully harness the power of the Rinnegan.
"Gamabunta, if it's too much, return to Mount Myoboku," Jiraiya said, worried about his companion. While it was rare for a summoning animal to die in battle, it wasn't impossible if the animal refused to return to its realm. Unlike Manda, who would flee at the first sign of danger, the toads of Mount Myoboku were loyal and wouldn't leave unless absolutely necessary.
"Don't underestimate me, Jiraiya! Water Style: Water Cannonball!" As the repulsive force weakened, Gamabunta quickly flipped in midair and launched a massive water bullet at Nagato.
"Wind Style: Great Breakthrough!" Nagato countered, blowing the water bullet back with a powerful gust of wind. The redirected water bullet caused a downpour in the surrounding area.
"Fire Style: Great Fire Annihilation! Wind Style: Great Breakthrough!" Immediately after, Nagato launched a combined fire and wind attack. The wind-enhanced fire jutsu's power, speed, and range increased dramatically.
Boom!
Gamabunta, still airborne, had no time to dodge and was engulfed by the raging flames. With a loud crash, he fell to the ground, creating a massive crater and kicking up a cloud of dust.
"Wind Style: Vacuum Wave!" Nagato, not missing a beat, launched several sharp wind blasts into the dust cloud, their trails visible as they sliced through the air, unstoppable even by the debris.
As the dust settled, Gamabunta emerged, his body covered in burns and multiple wounds, with blood streaming down his body.
"Jiraiya, this guy is too strong! We need to retreat!" Despite his injuries, Gamabunta still worried about Jiraiya's safety. If Jiraiya gave the order, he could use reverse summoning to take him back to Mount Myoboku.
In the original timeline, Jiraiya had a chance to escape after being gravely injured but chose to stay and uncover the secret of the Six Paths of Pain.
"Gamabunta, I can't leave. Thanks for everything over the years," Jiraiya said as he released his summoning contract, sending Gamabunta back to the toad realm.
"Jiraiya…" Gamabunta's words trailed off as he disappeared.
"I'm sorry, Jiraiya-sensei." Nagato appeared in front of Jiraiya in an instant and threw a punch. Jiraiya barely managed to block it with both arms, but he didn't notice Nagato's left leg until it slammed into his stomach, sending him flying and spitting blood.
Before Jiraiya could react, he felt his body being pulled back toward Nagato, unable to resist the overwhelming gravitational force.
"Goodbye, Jiraiya-sensei." As Nagato's left hand used Bansho Ten'in to pull Jiraiya closer, his right hand extended a black chakra rod, ready to finish him off.
"Wild Lion's Mane Jutsu!" Jiraiya quickly formed hand signs, causing his hair to grow rapidly and cover his body in sharp white spikes, making him resemble a giant white hedgehog.
Squelch.
Nagato's black rod pierced through Jiraiya's defenses, though it had veered off course, only stabbing into Jiraiya's left shoulder instead of his vital organs due to the strength of his hair defense.
"What…?" Jiraiya, now impaled, stared in disbelief at the black rod. He could feel an unfamiliar power disrupting his chakra flow, causing his Lion's Mane Jutsu to cancel out involuntarily. He was also unable to use any other jutsu. The black rods created by the Rinnegan could incapacitate even Edo Tensei-revived bodies.
"This time, it's truly goodbye," Nagato said coldly as another black rod appeared in his left hand, aimed at Jiraiya's heart. If this one landed, Jiraiya would not survive.
Just as the rod was about to strike, a flash of yellow streaked past Nagato, causing the rod to miss its target and stab into empty air.
"Long time no see, Jiraiya-sensei," Minato said, smiling as he stood about 20 meters away from Nagato with Jiraiya safely beside him.
"Minato… What… How…?" Jiraiya stammered, stunned by Minato's sudden appearance and his Edo Tensei state.
"Minato Namikaze. Are you siding with Konoha?" Nagato asked, a flicker of surprise crossing his face before his expression returned to calm.
"I'm not here to participate in the war. Jiraiya-sensei is no longer fit for battle. I'll be taking him away now," Minato replied before teleporting himself and Jiraiya away using the Flying Thunder God Technique.
Nagato stood still for a moment, watching the space where Minato and Jiraiya had disappeared. He then turned and headed toward the steel tower in Amegakure.
"So, the Nine-Tails chakra… Minato must have arrived," Daniel thought, sensing the appearance of the chakra as he stood atop Amegakure's steel tower. After a brief moment of consideration, he realized what must have happened.
Despite his reservations about Jiraiya's death, Daniel hadn't intervened in the fight between Nagato and Jiraiya. Although he didn't want to see Jiraiya killed, both sides were now enemies. Nagato, as Jiraiya's former
disciple, had shown no mercy, and neither could Daniel. Out of sight, out of mind—Daniel had chosen not to focus on the battle.
As much as it would be unfortunate if Jiraiya died, war meant casualties. Minato's unexpected intervention had saved Jiraiya, though, which, to Daniel's surprise, brought him a sense of relief. Perhaps Nagato and Konan felt the same.
"It seems I don't have the heart of a true commander. How could I have forgotten about Minato under these circumstances? Also, I've clearly underestimated the power of the Five Great Shinobi Villages."
"Are you all right, Nagato?" Konan asked as soon as Nagato returned to the steel tower.
"He was saved by Minato Namikaze," Nagato replied, answering the question on her mind. Although Konan's expression didn't change, the relief in her eyes was clear.
"It seems the Five Great Shinobi Villages plan to destroy Amegakure entirely. Perhaps we've been too soft in our approach," Daniel said thoughtfully. Despite their overwhelming strength and superior intelligence, he had tried to minimize bloodshed while solving the problems of the shinobi world. But now, it was clear that his enemies didn't share the same restraint.
In most ninja wars, villages rarely launched large-scale attacks on each other's homes, preferring to target ninja directly. Nagato's attack on Konoha had been an exception, motivated by personal pain. However, the current situation was different—Danzo, along with Kumogakure, Kirigakure, and Sunagakure, was prepared to obliterate Amegakure completely, regardless of how many civilians perished in the process.
Each of the Five Great Villages had its own secret techniques and forbidden jutsu. During times of war, these techniques were rarely displayed, mostly due to the lack of favorable conditions. But now, with the conditions met, they had prepared massive collaborative jutsu.
Hundreds of shinobi working together could produce results akin to forbidden techniques. In normal shinobi warfare, it was impossible for the enemy to give you time to prepare such large-scale techniques, but when the target was an entire village, there was no need to hold back.
Massive thunderclouds formed over the skies of Kumogakure's forces, while waves surged from the lake beside Kirigakure's troops. The surrounding environment naturally favored Kirigakure's forces. Meanwhile, Sunagakure had gathered a large number of wind-style users. In the Fourth Shinobi World War, when enough shinobi worked together, they had been able to fight even the Ten-Tails. Now, their target was only Amegakure.
The Five Great Villages clearly intended to erase Amegakure from the map. As for why Iwagakure hadn't contributed to the forbidden jutsu? It was simply because the terrain of Amegakure, surrounded by lakes, wasn't suited to their earth-based techniques.
"I'll handle the forces from Sunagakure and Kirigakure. Konan, I'll leave the ones from Kumogakure to you. Nagato, you keep an eye on Konoha," Daniel instructed, quickly assigning tasks.
"And what about Sunagakure's forbidden jutsu?" Konan asked.
"They've prepared a Tsuchigumo clan forbidden jutsu, so let's let them experience it themselves," Daniel replied calmly. He and the others had long noticed the large-scale preparations happening around Amegakure. They were simply waiting for the right moment to strike.
For Daniel, stopping the Tsuchigumo forbidden jutsu was as simple as opening a portal and sending it directly into the midst of Sunagakure's forces.
The same applied to Kumogakure and Kirigakure's jutsu.
