Chapter 95: Evil Luna!
Hugo sat frozen on the edge of Jessica's bed, his mind racing at a hundred miles per hour as Luna leaned casually against the doorframe, arms crossed and a sly smile plastered across her face.
She looked relaxed, but Hugo wasn't buying it. Her sharp eyes were fixed on him like a hawk sizing up a mouse, and her casual posture only made her presence feel even more intimidating.
She looked like a predator circling it's prey in a sadistic ritual before it ruthlessly pounces.
And Hugo, was the unlucky prey.
'Why is she still here? Why isn't she leaving?' Hugo's brain started piecing things together in panic mode.
'Wait. What if she thinks I'm just some player messing around with girls? She probably thinks I'm going to break Jessica's heart or something! Of course! That's why she's staying! She's trying to protect her best friend from a supposed "bad guy" like me!'
Hugo wanted to punch something. He was only trying to get into her panties. He wasn't planning to hurt Jessica or anything like that!
He glanced at her again, and his suspicion only deepened. 'Yeah, that's gotta be it. She looks like the kind of friend who gives stern lectures about "avoiding red flags" while sipping herbal tea.'
Luna's amused expression didn't help. She clearly was up to something, and Hugo felt like he was two steps away from being cross examined in front of a jury.
'Okay, think, Hugo. Think! If she tells Jessica what she probably thinks I am, I'm toast! No more dates, no more kisses, and definitely no more… you know... other stuff.' His inner monologue paused briefly to mourn the future he could lose.
"Nice place," Hugo muttered weakly, trying to break the heavy silence.
"Thanks," Luna replied, her smile widening. "Jessica and I keep it... lively."
Just then, he thought of the Aura of Persuasion, his ultimate ace in the hole. Pulling up his system interface, he saw a timer.
1 minute and 3 seconds left? That's enough. That's gotta be enough.
He sat up straighter, switching his expression from panicked to calm—well, as calm as someone could look in a Spiderman hoodie and mismatched socks... Enjoy new tales from empire
"Alright, Luna," he said smoothly, activating the aura. "Listen, there's no need for all this tension. I get it—you're looking out for Jessica. You're a good friend, and I respect that."
Luna raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed. "Mmm, flattery. Classic."
"No, no! I mean it." Hugo leaned forward slightly, his voice soft and sincere. "You care about her, and that's great. But I'm not the guy you think I am."
"Oh, really?" she asked, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
"Absolutely!" Hugo nodded fervently, like his life depended on it. "I'm… uh… sensitive. I cry during sad movies. I help old ladies cross the street. And I once donated my last five bucks to a puppy rescue."
Luna's smirk widened. "Puppy rescue? Really?"
Hugo's confidence faltered. 'Okay, maybe that was too much…' He couldn't be blamed though. Sanchez taught him nothing about convincing hateful besties...
"Luna," he said, switching tactics, "you're smart. You can see I'm telling the truth. So how about we just keep this simple? You step out, I step up, and nobody has to know about… well, anything."
Her amused gaze turned sharper. "Anything, huh? What exactly are we not telling Jessica?"
Hugo froze. 'Crap. That backfired. Abort! Abort!'
But before he could dig himself out of the hole, Luna tilted her head and said, "You know, you're convincing, but I think I'll stay right here. You're too interesting to let out of my sight."
"Stay? Why would you—" Hugo's words stopped as realisation hit him like a brick to the face. 'She's messing with me on purpose! She knows I'm sweating bullets, and she's enjoying this!'
Just as he opened his mouth to try again, the sound of water shutting off in the bathroom made both of their heads turn.
Hugo's heart dropped. 'Jessica's done! Oh no. Oh no no no. She's about to walk out here, and Luna's about to ruin everything!'
In a last ditch effort, Hugo rushed towards Luna. "Luna, please! Just go. I'll owe you, I swear. You want coffee? I'll buy you coffee. Fancy tea? I'll brew it myself! Just—just leave!"
Luna's eyes sparkled with mischief. "Hmm, tempting. But no."
Under the influence of the aura, Hugo saw her hesitate for a split second. For a moment, he thought he'd won. 'Yes! She's gonna leave! She's—'
"Actually," Luna said, stepping closer, "I think I'll do the opposite."
Before Hugo could even blink, she grabbed his collar and pulled him into a kiss so sudden and fiery his brain short circuited.
'What is happening?!'
Her lips were warm, fierce, and utterly unapologetic. Hugo's entire brain screamed in confusion: ERROR: USER BRAIN NOT RESPONDING. REBOOTING.
Luna broke the kiss, her mischievous smirk back in place. Hugo was still too stunned to speak.
And then…
The bathroom door creaked open.
Hugo snapped his head toward it, his soul leaving his body as Jessica stepped out in nothing but a towel, her hair damp and shiny, looking like she'd just walked out of a shampoo commercial.
Luna, unfazed, glanced back at Jessica and said casually, "Oh, hey, Jess. Didn't know you were done already."
Jessica blinked, looking between Luna and Hugo, her expression turning suspicious. "What's going on here?"
Hugo's internal scream echoed so loudly it might as well have been audible. He took a wide step back and almost split on the spot.
'WHY?! WHY ME?!'
