Chapter 615: Chapter 615: Kara Like a Moth to a Flame
"What is this place?" Unlike the Martian Manhunter, who had phased into this space earlier, the newly arrived group found themselves on a newly constructed ground formed by the Space Stone's power. Coulson and the government agents were bewildered, lacking any special abilities to understand the sudden change in environment.
These officials had no idea about the energy contained within the Space Stone. Only the scientists researching it had a clue about its potential. Coulson and his team couldn't see the battles between Robert and Mammon, or Diana and Gabriel.
However, while most Avengers and officials couldn't see the ongoing fights, Kara used her super-vision to spot the two battlegrounds. When she saw Robert continuously unleashing energy waves to fend off Mammon, her eyes narrowed. She knew Robert well enough to understand that he preferred close combat over energy waves, which caused significant environmental destruction.
Seeing Robert in such a desperate situation, constantly using energy waves, indicated that he was struggling in the fight. Moreover, Robert had sustained new injuries, and as the power of faith granted by the Pope diminished, his ability to counter Mammon weakened.
Realizing the gravity of Robert's situation, Kara vanished from her spot. She noticed Diana's battle but chose to help Robert without hesitation, moving with determination.
"Kara!" Clark's pupils contracted as he saw her move, disappearing from sight. In the next moment, a mirrored barrier blocked his path, igniting his anger.
"If you block me again, I'll fight you to the death!" Clark's eyes glowed red, ready to unleash his heat vision. He glared at the elderly gentleman, gathering his strength for a potentially lethal confrontation.
"I told you, I'm not participating in the fight, and neither should you. You agreed to this earlier..." The elderly gentleman shook his head, a hint of apprehension in his eyes, but he didn't relent. "You can break through the mirror, but if you do, I'll intervene. Do you think you can kill Mammon and Gabriel faster than I can kill them?"
Clark's eyes narrowed, and the red glow faded slightly, but he continued to stare down the elderly gentleman.
"I'll stop her!" The Martian Manhunter, observing the standoff, quickly intervened, disappearing from sight to intercept Kara. He knew the elderly gentleman was more powerful than Clark and posed a significant threat. However, the gentleman seemed reluctant to engage Clark directly and preferred to maintain the current balance.
The Martian Manhunter had analyzed the battlefield, noting the evenly matched fights between Diana and Gabriel and the intense struggle between Robert and Mammon. He understood that Kara's interference could disrupt the delicate balance, potentially becoming a burden to Robert, who was already struggling.
If Robert were to fall, it would trigger a chain reaction, jeopardizing everyone present. The Martian Manhunter couldn't allow that to happen.
In a flash, the Martian Manhunter appeared before Kara, blocking her path.
"Move!" Kara frowned, her voice stern.
"You can't go. You'll only get yourself killed and distract Robert," the Martian Manhunter pleaded, his tone serious. "Clark is already held back by a powerful entity. If you get hurt, it could destabilize the entire situation."
"I know it's dangerous, but who says my death would distract him?" Kara smiled enigmatically. "On the contrary, my death might lead to victory in this battle."
"What? What do you mean?" The Martian Manhunter was baffled, unable to comprehend Kara's reasoning.
"If we don't win this fight, my death won't matter because it means I'm not as important to him as she is..." Kara's smile grew more radiant, and she vanished again. Before the Martian Manhunter could react, her voice echoed in his ear.
"Help on the other battlefield. Your abilities can ensure your safety and your psychic powers might trouble the angel. If she falters, who knows what he'll fight for?"
"What?!" The Martian Manhunter, still trying to process Kara's words, realized he couldn't catch up with her. He glanced at Robert and Mammon's battlefield, then at Diana and Gabriel's, and made a tough decision. He chose to follow Kara's advice and headed toward Diana and Gabriel's fight.
Meanwhile, as Tony Stark and the others tried to grasp the situation, Kara disappeared from their sight, increasing their anxiety. Just then, a fire portal opened, and Constantine beckoned them through. Stark and the others entered the portal without hesitation.
Coulson and the officials instinctively stepped back upon seeing the portal. When they saw the Avengers enter, they tried to follow, but the portal closed, leaving them bewildered in the strange, empty environment.
"Can you use these portals to leave?" Stark asked Constantine, frowning.
"It's a miracle we can open them here. Leaving is out of the question; we don't have that power..." Mordo sighed, pointing to a projection. "We're just hiding here, hoping the Saiyan can win."
"Supergirl?! She's heading over there! And the Martian Manhunter is heading to the other battlefield?" Peter Parker exclaimed, noticing the two battle projections. The Avengers' faces grew more worried.
Robert sensed Kara's presence as soon as she entered the space, causing him to panic. He wasn't concerned about Diana but feared that Kara might recklessly join the fight. His fears were realized as Kara's presence grew closer.
"Kara, stay back! It's too dangerous here! I can handle this guy!" Robert shouted after unleashing a powerful Kamehameha wave to push Mammon back.
"No! Why does she get to fight while I just watch? I want to help!" Kara retorted, her tone assertive and determined, clearly upset by Diana's involvement.
"Kara, it's not—" Robert tried to explain, but Mammon took advantage of the distraction, lunging at Robert with a vicious punch.
With a loud "bang," Robert barely blocked the punch, his body trembling from the impact. Despite his increased power from the Great Ape's Rage, he still couldn't match Mammon's strength.
"You ugly monster! How dare you hit him!" Kara's voice rang out, and a blast of heat vision struck Mammon, pushing him back.
"Ugly monster?" Mammon, unhurt by the heat vision but enraged by the insult, roared, "Fine! I'll send you both to my hellish domain to be tortured together for eternity!"
With a swift move, Mammon disappeared, and Robert, sensing the danger, quickly followed to intercept Mammon's attack on Kara.
"Bam!" Robert barely managed to block another punch from Mammon, struggling to hold his ground. Mammon's relentless assault made it clear he was trying to get to Kara.
"Damn it! Get out of my way!" Mammon, frustrated by Robert's tenacity, continued to pound on him, unable to break through his defense.
"You won't hurt him!" To Robert and Mammon's surprise, Kara flew in, throwing a punch at Mammon, resembling a moth flying into a flame.
"You're asking for it!"
"No!"
With a sickening crunch, Mammon's punch pierced through Kara, creating a gaping wound. Her body fell, lifeless, to the ground.
"Take revenge for me..." As Robert reached out to her, Kara weakly waved him off, whispering her final words.
At that moment, Robert felt something shatter within him. A surge of uncontrollable rage erupted, filling him with violent energy. Memories of Kara flashed before his eyes, blurring his vision and consciousness, leaving him with only one thought:
Destruction. He would destroy everything around him.
