Chapter 192: Riding Duel, Acceleration!
After the officers regained consciousness, Hikaru Amagi spoke with them briefly before returning to the interdimensional base, where he spent some time fine-tuning his Deck.
First and foremost, getting his hands on Necro Fusion—the original version—was probably the thing that brought him the most joy.
Hikaru had always carried a backup copy of Necro Fusion – Ghost Fusion, but it was the OCG-legalized version, the one that only allowed you to banish monsters from the Deck if your LP were lower than your opponent's.
Sure, in most cases that condition wasn't hard to meet, but it was nowhere near as satisfying as the original Necro Fusion the Skull Knight had handed over—just like how, despite owning all versions of Future Fusion, Hikaru still got the most hype from the original Equip Spell version.
After that incident wrapped up, the Friendship Cup with the Synchro Dimension progressed smoothly.
Fifteen days—long enough to feel substantial, yet quick enough to pass in a blink.
Since most of their opponents were either hastily chosen City Duelists or Satellite Duelists, Hikaru's side racked up an overwhelming series of wins. Anyone who dueled—even those who lost—gained a ton of attention from Duelists and viewers across the dimensions. Even Jesse Anderson, who didn't win, drew tons of praise for his unique Crystal Beast deck.
Naturally, the winners got even more attention.
And so, the promised "Day Fifteen" arrived.
According to the agreement between City and their dimension, today would feature the "KING" of the Synchro Dimension—who would demonstrate his power in a unique Duel exclusive to their world!
"Ladies and gentlemen, the moment you've been waiting for—it's time for our KING to Duel!" shouted the MC, broadcasting from atop a hovercraft, voice cracking with excitement. "A Riding Duel! The very soul of our City!"
VROOOM—
As his voice echoed across the arena, a deafening engine roar shook the ground.
A white, circular-shaped Duel Runner thundered onto the scene, its sleek body gleaming like a ring of lightning. It screeched to a halt right in front of the temporary KaibaCorp arena. With a sharp side-turn and a loud hiss of brakes, it slid into position.
Perched on the bike was a tall blond man in white goggles. One foot hit the pavement as he threw a hand skyward and shouted:
"There's only one KING—and that's me!"
"Jack Atlas!!"
"KING—Jack Atlas!! The undisputed monarch of City!!" the MC bellowed like his throat might give out.
KaibaCorp's students blinked in unison, stunned by Jack's dramatic entrance.
Forget strength—just look at the style!
Jack was textbook handsome: blond, tall, striking. Add that pose and that line, and his raw charisma alone could have three fangirls fighting to marry him.
Jack didn't speak again. He locked eyes with the KaibaCorp delegation—no, specifically with Seto Kaiba.
"Hmm↑↓…" Kaiba tilted his head, intrigued.
This one was different from the rest. Not like those other Synchro Duelists who were just padding the ranks. In Kaiba's eyes, only that "Yusei" had been worth noticing before.
But this KING… this one might actually be interesting.
"Now then—KING's opponent, representing the South American branch of the Interdimensional Exchange, is… Angmar!"
Angmar?
Hikaru glanced toward the Fusion Army's section.
He'd only just learned Angmar's name when he first took the stage. The guy was technically a contestant for their side, but his win had been… less than admirable. Even KaibaCorp staff had criticized him afterward. The kind of Duelist who won ugly.
Hikaru thought it over.
So this Jack must be the anime version, not the manga or Arc-V versions.
It sounded insane, but it made sense—just based on who Jack had been matched against, you could guess his power level.
Manga Jack had demolished Yusei when he debuted. Arc-V Jack had demolished Yuya the same way. Both were brutal powerhouses.
Anime Jack, though? A little different. Sure, he'd thrashed Yusei once in a memory, but his title of KING had a lot of… assistance. Godwin manipulated brackets, pressured opponents into throwing matches, pulled all kinds of strings.
Jack wasn't weak—but he wasn't invincible either.
Clearly, the Public Security Bureau had picked his opponent very carefully.
Someone who'd won a match but left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. Someone disliked enough that no one would care when Jack trashed him in a spectacle match. The perfect PR foil.
Angmar looked nervous. With KaibaCorp's help, he managed to get seated on a D-Wheel, but the moment he heard he'd have to Duel while riding, he panicked and shook his head.
"I don't know how to drive!"
"Relax," one of KaibaCorp's staff explained. "It's just a showcase match. The D-Wheel's on autopilot, and it won't go too fast."
That settled him down.
If that was the case—then fine. Time for the world to witness the Fusion Army's greatness!
"Now then! Let me introduce to our interdimensional guests… a new form of Duel! An evolved Duel!" the MC shouted, now standing on a platform next to a Duel Runner, knees high, marching with excitement.
"Riding Duel! The Duel of our world! The Duel where both players ride the wind on D-Wheels and aim for one goal—to overtake the other! Overtake! Overtake!
OVERTAKE!"
He took a deep breath and continued, "The rules are simple. Riding Duels add two more rules on top of regular Dueling!
First, the first player to complete the entire track—wins!
Second, if your D-Wheel stops moving for too long during the Duel—you lose! Instant defeat!"
"Each turn, in the Speed World that Riding Duels always take place in, players will gain a Speed Counter. The more Speed Counters you have, the faster your D-Wheel becomes!
Likewise—take too much damage, and you'll lose Speed Counters!"
Hikaru listened to the rules and nodded. All familiar stuff.
Although, let's be honest—those two extra rules barely mattered. No one ever finished a full lap. And as for your D-Wheel stopping? In the later World Championships, Jack literally pushed his bike and kept going.
In reality, it all came down to the Duel itself.
And from the sound of it, this world's Riding Duels still allowed normal Spell Cards. Which meant—Fusion was totally viable.
Hikaru wasn't sure if he'd ever enter a Riding Duel himself, but either way, it was good news.
At least he wouldn't have to worry about Fusion being unusable.
