Starting From Being Adopted by the Second Hokage!

Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Say It Wasn’t You!

Senju Tobirama's Residence.

Late at night, Senju Tobirama sat alone inside the house.

The dim yellow light flickered on and off, casting his crooked shadow across the floor.

The low table in front of him was covered in dishes. The steam that had once risen from them had long since dissipated, and the food had gone cold.

Senju Tobirama hadn't touched his chopsticks. His brows were tightly furrowed, his face clouded with gloom.

That little Uchiha brat had gone to school today and didn't have time to cook dinner.

It had been a long time since Tobirama himself had cooked, but on a whim, he'd prepared a hearty meal, hoping Renya would get a taste of his cooking.

But what he hadn't expected was that the brat hadn't come home at all.

At first, he would reheat the food from time to time. After a few attempts, he gave up.

"That brat, what on earth is he doing?" Tobirama suppressed his anger.

How much time had passed already, and still no sign of him?

Could it be... he went and did something bad?

"That naturally evil Uchiha brat!"

The more he thought about it, the more convinced he became. Renya probably went off to do something shady.

Like bullying classmates, insulting them, or even beating them up...

Just as he was about to get up and search for him, Renya walked into the courtyard.

As soon as he stepped inside the house, Renya noticed the food on the table and the gloomy expression on Tobirama's face. He instantly understood what had happened.

Looks like this old man had been waiting a long time...

"Brat, what were you doing this afternoon?" Tobirama's face was dark as iron, his eyes locked onto Renya.

The Ninja Academy let out early, usually around 3 p.m.

But now it was almost 8 p.m.

Tobirama was very curious—what had Renya been doing these five hours?!

If it were anyone else, he might not be so suspicious.

But with an Uchiha, he had to stay alert.

All the Uchiha were lunatics, even the kids were no exception.

Lately, there had been frequent rumors about disputes between the Uchiha clan and other families.

These arrogant bastards were bound to stir up trouble.

Tobirama had to remain cautious.

Even if this particular Uchiha had lived with him for a year...

Faced with Tobirama's question, Renya showed an awkward expression.

He wanted to make up an excuse, but under Tobirama's dangerous gaze, he decided against it.

This old man guarded him like he was guarding a thief.

If he found out Renya was lying, it would only make things worse.

Thinking this through, Renya decided to tell the truth.

"We had history class this afternoon. I found it boring and fell asleep. By the time I woke up, it was already dark."

Tobirama was a bit stunned. He hadn't expected that Renya's late return would be due to something like this.

[Sleeping in class is still better than bullying classmates.]

So thought Tobirama.

"Who even wrote that book? It's so boring," Renya spread his hands. "I don't get it. The founding of Konoha isn't even older than I am. Why bother writing a separate history book?"

Tobirama's face darkened, and he glared at Renya.

"Brat, what do you know?"

Sure, Konoha's history was only a few pages now, but in ten or twenty years, it would become a thick volume.

And the existence of the history book ensured that the events of today would be recorded truthfully so future generations could know what had happened.

Renya just curled his lip in disdain and muttered, "I question the authenticity of history books."

Tobirama: "..."

So what if he'd "slightly" exaggerated the accomplishments of the Senju clan?

Did the brat really have to call him out like this?

He wrote about the Uchiha clan too, didn't he?

He didn't deny the Uchiha's achievements! Was Senju Tobirama that kind of person?

[In the first year of Konoha, the God of Shinobi Senju Hashirama and the Uchiha clan reached an agreement, ended the war, and founded the Hidden Leaf Village. Hashirama was deeply loved by the villagers, became the village's Hokage, and led Konoha toward prosperity. (Excerpt from Konoha History)]

Senju Tobirama had even removed Uchiha Madara's name.

Well, what could he do? Madara had defected!

Even if the Uchiha protested, he could always throw Madara's betrayal back in their faces.

That way, the Senju clan would justifiably become the main founders of Konoha.

It was just a little personal bias when he compiled the history book.

After all, everyone wants their clan to be remembered in history...

Tobirama probably never imagined that the Senju would one day be wiped out.

"Old man, the food's gone cold," Renya said, not wanting to talk about it anymore as he pointed to the table.

"Don't sleep in class again."

After giving that advice, Tobirama picked up the food and headed to the kitchen.

...

After dinner.

Renya went to the training ground to practice shuriken throwing.

In just one year, his throwing technique had improved tremendously. He could now hit the bullseye every time on a fixed target.

Just then, someone called from outside the gate.

"Tobirama-sama, Hokage-sama wants to see you in his office!"

Hearing this, Tobirama walked out of his room, glanced at Renya, and said:

"Brat, I have something to attend to. I'm heading out."

With that, he opened the courtyard gate and left.

"At this hour? Did something happen?" Renya muttered to himself.

But he didn't think too much of it. With Hashirama in the village, Konoha was the safest place on earth. Nothing could go seriously wrong.

What Renya didn't know was that this matter was directly tied to him.

Not long after, Tobirama returned with a face like thunder.

Renya noticed the look on his face and grew curious.

What could have happened to make this old guy so angry?

"Brat, did you beat someone up today?!" Tobirama asked, trying to suppress his fury.

Renya froze. He hadn't expected the question to be so direct.

He had been careful. How was it discovered?

He had checked the area and made sure no one was around before acting.

Before making a move, he even put a sack over Uchiha Retsufū's head and didn't say a word the whole time.

Renya couldn't understand how he got exposed.

Seeing his reaction, Tobirama immediately understood.

So it really was this brat!

"Brat, hurry up and say it wasn't you!"

"Huh?" Renya looked dumbfounded and rubbed his ear in disbelief. Did he hear that right?

"I know this has nothing to do with you," Tobirama continued.

Renya quickly caught on and replied seriously,

"I didn't hit anyone. This has nothing to do with me."

Hearing this, Tobirama nodded in satisfaction.

"I knew it wasn't you. Alright, go to bed."

Watching Renya head back to his room, Tobirama sighed helplessly.

"That brat really knows how to stir up trouble..."

What had happened was quite simple.

Uchiha Retsufū had been ambushed, and his father found out.

Retsufū's father, a vice-captain of the Konoha Police Force, questioned his son and narrowed down the suspect to Renya.

Enraged, he stormed into the Hokage's office and filed a complaint with Hashirama.

He demanded a confrontation with Tobirama, claiming Renya had acted under Tobirama's orders...

Naturally, Tobirama denied it. After some verbal sparring, Retsufū's father, lacking evidence, had no choice but to leave grudgingly.

That had led to the scene just now.

Tobirama's goal was simple—to make sure Renya didn't admit to hitting anyone.

If it had been a fair sparring match, it wouldn't be a big deal. But a sneak attack was truly dishonorable.

After all, this was Konoha, not a battlefield.

Uchiha Retsufū was a comrade, not an enemy...
