Starting From Being Adopted by the Second Hokage!

Chapter 17: Chapter 17: History of the Shinobi World

It was now noon.

Senju Takuzen announced the class was dismissed, and Renya quickly rushed home for lunch.

There was an hour for lunch, and students could either bring their own bento or return home to eat.

Since it was the first day of school, Renya naturally hadn't prepared a bento and had to go home.

"I wonder if he has prepared lunch for me?"

Thinking this, he made his way toward the Senju clan compound.

On the way back, Renya happened to catch a glimpse of a brat walking ahead of him.

It was none other than Uchiha Retsufū—the same loudmouth from class earlier.

Renya looked around and noticed that Retsufū was alone. A sly grin appeared on his face.

"Hmph, caught you alone, huh?"

The kid had carelessly wandered off on his own, and Renya certainly wasn't going to waste this perfect opportunity. He had to make him pay for provoking him!

"Damn it, I forgot my bento."

Uchiha Retsufū cursed under his breath as he walked along.

He had been too focused on the entrance exams and completely forgot to bring lunch.

Though he forgot, his two companions didn't, so no one was going back with him—he had to eat lunch at home alone.

Suddenly, he heard a faint sound behind him. It was like someone deliberately softening their footsteps, the subtle scuff of shoes dragging across the ground.

"Who's there?"

Uchiha Retsufū's heart tightened. He instinctively turned around.

His eyes scanned the area, but the street was empty. No one in sight.

Only the gentle wind rustling the wild grass on the roadside.

"Did I imagine it?" Uchiha Retsufū frowned.

Maybe it was hunger messing with his senses—he hadn't eaten lunch, after all.

He shook his head, deciding to keep walking home.

But just as he turned back around, a black shadow leapt from behind. Before he could react, a rough black sack was pulled over his head, completely covering it.

Immediately after, a flurry of swift and fierce punches and kicks rained down on him like a storm.

Uchiha Retsufū staggered under the onslaught and crashed to the ground.

He tried to push himself up, but a punch smashed into his face.

The punch landed hard, sending stars spinning in his vision and the world reeling.

Before he could recover, the punches kept coming—straight to his face.

"Ah! Don't hit the face, I'm begging you!"

The attacker said nothing, just continued to pound away.

"Aaahhhh—!"

Uchiha Retsufū howled in pain, his voice tearing through the street.

Who knew how long it lasted, but finally, the attacker stopped.

Uchiha Retsufū gasped for air, his chest rising and falling violently. Each breath tugged at his injuries, causing him to groan in pain.

After a long while, Retsufū's trembling hands managed to tug off the black sack over his head.

He squinted through swollen eyes that barely opened, trying to see who had attacked him.

But the street was already empty.

Lifting his hand, he touched his now pig-like face. The stabbing pain made him suck in a sharp breath.

"No matter what, I sw'ear I won't let you off!"

Uchiha Retsufū struggled to stand, staggering with unsteady steps.

He leaned against the wall and hobbled toward home, one slow step at a time.

...

Meanwhile, in the Senju compound—

"Today is a great day~"

Renya hummed cheerfully as he walked home.

Can't lie—beating up Uchiha Retsufū had really put him in a great mood.

"Is lunch ready yet?" Renya called as he pushed open the courtyard door.

But instead of hearing Senju Tobirama's voice, he was greeted by a soft laugh.

Renya paused, then looked toward the source.

There sat Uzumaki Mito in the courtyard, her face lit with a gentle smile.

"Little Renya, forgot your bento, didn't you?"

"Mito-san? What are you doing here?" Renya was a little surprised.

Uzumaki Mito raised the bento in her hand and smiled.

"Tobirama had something to take care of and didn't have time to cook, so he asked me to bring your lunch."

"So that's what happened." Renya nodded in understanding.

"Come, eat up!" Uzumaki Mito opened the bento. "Try some of my cooking."

"Thanks for the food!"

Renya didn't hold back and dug in immediately.

Uzumaki Mito watched him with a warm smile and asked, "Little Renya, are you enjoying school so far?"

"It's fine. The classmates are all pretty smart, and they talk real nice too."

"Really? Then you should get along well with them."

Renya thought of Uchiha Retsufū's miserable state and smiled.

"Don't worry. I've already gotten really close with them."

"Haha, Little Renya sure knows how to make friends."

She didn't know that Renya meant it quite literally—he got close to his classmates physically... with his fists.

After finishing lunch, Renya thanked Uzumaki Mito and headed out. He still had class in the afternoon.

...

Afternoon. Ninja Academy.

Uchiha Retsufū didn't show up. Probably recovering from his injuries...

"Class, take out your history books. We're studying history this period," said the history teacher.

Renya: "???"

Wait, isn't it only Year Six of Konoha right now?

What history is there to even teach?

Honestly, the village hasn't been around long enough to be older than him.

It's the sixth year of the Shinobi World, and Renya just turned seven.

Yep... older than the village by one year.

However, Renya was mistaken.

After opening the book, he saw that it was about the History of the Shinobi World.

It covered the origin of the shinobi world, the birth of ninjas, the Warring States period, and the grudges among the major clans...

Of course, the founding history of Konoha was in there too—but only a few thin pages.

He flipped through it and saw it was mostly praise for Senju Hashirama's great achievements, with barely any mention of Uchiha Madara.

Renya's mouth twitched. He didn't even need to think to guess who wrote this history book.

Looking at the cover, he saw: "Written by Senju Tobirama."

Renya: "..."

Of course. It really was that old bastard Tobirama.

All he could do was chuckle bitterly.

There wasn't anything worth learning in shinobi history. He might as well sleep.

So Renya lay his head down on the desk and napped.

He wasn't alone—Nara Motoha, that guy, was sleeping too.

...

"Renya-kun, wake up. It's time to go home."

Renya was groggily awakened by someone calling him. As he opened his eyes, he saw Nara Motoha.

"School's over?" Renya looked around and saw that only the two of them remained in the classroom.

Looking outside, the sky was already dimming. It seemed school had ended quite a while ago.

Had that much time passed?

He had only just closed his eyes...

"Yeah, school's been out for a bit." Nara Motoha sighed.

He thought he could sleep a lot—until he woke up and saw Renya still snoring.

At that moment, Nara Motoha realized the difference between common clans and noble ones...

"That was such a good nap!" Renya stretched lazily. "Sleeping in class really hits different."

"It really does," Nara Motoha nodded in total agreement.
