Successful Bribery!

Dragonite's agreement to his request filled Roy with delight.

The idea of sending Elekid to the "Dragon's Lair" wasn't a spur-of-the-moment decision. Roy had contemplated it for several days, and he'd even anticipated encountering Dragonite, the championship transporter.

This solution wasn't the only way for Elekid to evolve, but it was undoubtedly the fastest shortcut.

According to the schedule, the decisive battle against Stonecrest University would take place on March 2nd, leaving only twenty days to prepare. Roy needed to build his team's strength as quickly as possible during this period.

Dragonite's ready agreement surprised Roy somewhat. He'd expected more resistance to his proposal.

Since Dragonite couldn't stay long, after dinner, Roy called Elekid over and explained about the 'Dragon's Lair.'

"I must tell you, it's very—dangerous," Roy said with a serious expression that contained worry, sadness, and trust. To convey this complex emotional mixture, he employed every bit of his acting skills.

"The Dragon's Lair is filled with powerful trainers and fierce Dragon-type Pokémon everywhere. If you go there, no one can help you—you'll have to rely solely on yourself. One careless mistake could be fatal..." Roy continued, his voice carrying genuine concern. "I'm very reluctant to let you go; the risk is enormous, but this is the fastest path to your evolution. Elekid, I understand your determination to become stronger, so I'll leave the choice to you."

Elekid gazed at Roy with emotion. With a trainer like this, what more could it ask for?

Without hesitation, Elekid made its choice!

"Blay!" it exclaimed confidently. I'll go!

Elekid coveted the opportunity to quickly grow stronger so it could take revenge on the "Illuminati" who had massacred its entire group and tortured its companions to death. Even if this process could be accelerated by just a minute or a second, it would bring supreme joy to Elekid.

Revenge had been the greatest source of motivation for Elekid... Perhaps that statement needed to be amended. Because now, beyond 'revenge,' Elekid held many other things in its heart.

Roy's place had become its brand-new home. It wanted to grow stronger to protect its family members. Simultaneously, it wanted to make Roy proud of its achievements one day.

Witnessing Elekid's determination, although he had anticipated this response, Roy still sighed and patted Elekid's head helplessly.

Why couldn't he simply deny Elekid's wishes?

"When you're there, you must learn to observe your surroundings carefully," Roy advised. "When facing an enemy too strong to defeat, don't use Facade. There's no shame in retreating. Keep the Max Revives I gave you hidden, and change their hiding place every ten days."

"Bray~~" Elekid tapped Roy's shoulder, reminding him not to forget that it was originally a wild Pokémon that understood survival tactics.

It gathered the entire bag of Max Revives and Hyper Potions that Roy had exchanged for it, climbed onto Dragonite's back, and waved goodbye to Roy and the others.

Roy watched as Elekid's silhouette disappeared into the night sky.

'Why am I thinking such unlucky thoughts?' Roy wondered, his expression darkening. As everyone knew, Pokémon released by Ash never returned.

"Kaba." Blastoise displayed a lonely expression as its good friend departed.

Roy consoled it: "I made arrangements with Dragonite. Regardless of whether Elekid evolves successfully or not, it will return on March 2nd. It's just a twenty-day separation—gone in the blink of an eye."

"Speaking of which, how's your progress with Iron Defense and Light Screen?"

Blastoise, who had been sighing sadly, suddenly showed the nervous expression of a student being evaluated by their teacher.

Seeing Blastoise's reaction, Roy understood its progress was merely average.

That was normal. With sufficient repetition of a move, even a Pokémon with minimal talent and understanding could reach proficiency level. However, mastery required meeting extremely harsh conditions—it wasn't something achievable through hard work alone.

Master-level Iron Defense and Light Screen, even with the assistance of TMs, couldn't be perfected in a single day.

Of course, regarding teaching effectiveness, no guidebook on Earth compared to a TM with the cutting-edge technology of "Consciousness Space."

Blastoise possessed excellent potential, so success in learning these moves was only a matter of time.

"Keep working hard," Roy encouraged before returning to the villa.

The next day arrived with winter's cold winds blowing fiercely.

Roy trudged through the snow and entered the Capital Pokémon Center after a long absence.

After entering, Roy spotted the nurse on duty at the counter and his eyes brightened. Walking up with a smile, he greeted: "Nurse Mila, long time no see! Are you still working here?"

The nurse at the front desk was indeed Mila, who had taken good care of him previously.

"You..." Mila looked pleasantly surprised, clearly not expecting to see Roy again.

Roy's reputation in East China had grown tremendously, beyond what could be described as "rising like the sun." Many claimed he had the qualifications to become a champion, with high probability that in the coming years, he would dominate the national college league like Henry and Caroline had, crushing his peers completely.

Mila heard the excited gasps from the other nurses at nearby counters. Obviously, they had also noticed and recognized Roy.

Mila teased him with partial sincerity: "I didn't expect someone as famous as you to remember me!"

"It's only been half a year," Roy shrugged with a smile. "My memory isn't that bad, is it?"

Hearing this, Mila felt slightly embarrassed.

Half a year...

Yes, it had only been half a year...

The young man before her had transformed from a novice trainer who had never participated in a single match and needed her reminders, into a talented trainer who attracted widespread attention and carried the future glory of the East China Division.

He had become someone everyone looked up to.

Feeling the envious and amazed gazes from her colleagues, Mila experienced a sense of pride.

Though she wanted to chat longer, seeing Roy's expression suggesting he had business to attend to, Mila asked:

"What brings you here today?"

"I'd like to rent a special training room for the entire day."

Each Pokémon Center typically had just one special training room available. The construction costs for such facilities were extremely high, but they could perfectly withstand professional-strength move training.

The rental fees matched this exclusivity—starting at 20,000 Pokédollars per hour, or 200,000 for a full day.

Ridiculously expensive, to say the least.

The university wouldn't build such specialized training rooms—not because they lacked funds, but because they deemed them unnecessary. No student in Capital University's history had reached professional level before graduation.

Roy's purpose in renting the special training room was naturally to test the power of Z-Moves.

Since he didn't know their specific power output, he dared not test them at school or home, fearing structural damage...
