The call connected quickly.
"Hello?"
Sebastian's voice rang with great interest as he teased, "Hey, isn't this the famous Roy who dominates the college league?"
Roy was officially the No. 3 position, but regardless of which school he faced, he was always the starter. His habit of taking on three opponents at once and single-handedly destroying teams had severely damaged the confidence of many students, earning him the nickname 'Devil King.' People couldn't help but think he enjoyed toying with his opponents.
"I'm just helping them grow through experience," Roy muttered.
"Hahaha," Sebastian laughed. "You wouldn't call for nothing, so please tell me what you need. I'm busy."
As a guest commentator for the college league competition, Sebastian had been accompanying Benjamin to various provincial competition venues around the country, observing outstanding Trainer prospects everywhere.
The quality of this year's students was very good. Unfortunately, after seeing Roy's performance, it became difficult for others to catch Benjamin's attention.
"I have a new move I want to test, but I lack a suitable opponent," Roy said, cutting to the chase. "Can you lend me that professional Clefable from the dojo?"
Sebastian thought for a moment, then said with a smile, "I don't mind, but I'll have to ask Clefable first."
Clefable wasn't Sebastian's Pokémon; it simply lived in the dojo. The Fairy-type was older than Sebastian. In a sense, Sebastian had to refer to Clefable as "Senior."
After asking Roy to wait, Sebastian hung up the phone.
Five minutes later, the phone rang again.
"Clefable agreed. She has a good impression of you..." Sebastian said. "Give me your address. At seven o'clock tonight, Clefable will be there on time."
After Roy provided his villa address, he thanked Sebastian, hung up the phone, and gazed quietly out the window.
"Nine?" The Ninetales beside him blinked and looked at Roy with confusion.
Why had Roy's expression become serious even though he had completed another preparation?
To be more precise, he looked a little... embarrassed?
A moment later, she heard Roy sigh and mutter, "Think of it as morning exercises."
Then, she watched as Roy stood up, crossed his arms in front of him, and suddenly began dancing awkwardly.
Ninetales gave him a concerned look: "???"
Elekid clutched its stomach and laughed wildly: "Pfft! Hahaha!"
Lucario closed its eyes, unable to bear watching: "Ahem, ahem."
Mimikyu slipped out of the shadows and peeked silently.
Six p.m.
Today's opponent was a weak team. After confirming it wasn't his turn to battle, Roy left the field early and returned to the villa.
Mixing energy cubes into the food, Roy served his Pokémon one by one.
Except... Elekid.
Seeing the other Pokémon eating happily while nothing sat on its own plate, Elekid looked at Roy suspiciously.
"Lek?"
Where's my portion?
Roy said seriously, "Elekid, I've been thinking about it. You've been too relaxed lately. Skip dinner tonight and practice more first. You can eat after training."
Relaxed?
The hardest-working Elekid expressed its dissatisfaction.
But Roy's next statement knocked it down instantly.
"Then tell me why your progress is the slowest!"
It was true.
On Roy's team, only Elekid had an A-level evaluation under normal circumstances, reaching A+ level only after activating its Thunder Armor.
The rest of the Pokémon were normally A level.
Lucario's Aura Sphere ability was A+, Mimikyu's Disguise ability was A+, and when Blastoise activated its Torrent ability, its destructive power alone was also A+.
Ninetales was the core of the team and couldn't be judged on individual power alone, plus it would soon learn Z-Moves.
Elekid, who was originally ranked among the top three in terms of strength, had now fallen to the bottom.
Elekid felt ashamed about this and knew it should work harder, but it vaguely suspected that Roy was withholding food to get revenge for Elekid's ridicule that afternoon...
"Blastoise."
Blastoise happily picked up its meal, giving Elekid a smug look.
It had the closest relationship with Elekid, similar to that of frenemies.
Elekid felt irritated. If Blastoise hadn't been learning moves in the 'Consciousness Space' that afternoon, it definitely would have laughed at Roy's dancing too.
Silently, Elekid picked up the bag full of 'Max Revives' and was about to head to the Charging Room for additional practice.
Seeing Elekid's lonely back, Roy suddenly felt a pang of guilt.
"Forget it, come back and eat first."
"Elekid!"
Elekid cried out with emotion and obediently sat back down on the chair.
Harmful.
Roy sighed inwardly.
Z-Move dancing really does damage one's dignity.
To use Z-Moves, a Trainer had to perform a 'pose of power.' Only this way could they channel their energy properly. Even Roy had to practice the dance once to understand how the 'energy flow' worked.
Fortunately, after wearing the Z-Ring for a while, Roy understood the path of energy and was able to replace the "pose of power" process with Psychic power. He wouldn't need to dance awkwardly in public in the future.
Otherwise, Roy would really have suffered psychological damage.
Ding dong!
The doorbell rang.
It was exactly seven o'clock, right on time... Roy sighed and went to the entrance to open the door.
The first thing he saw was the plump Clefable.
And beside it...
"Dragonite," Roy said with an unsurprised smile. "You've been used as transportation again."
"Draa?" Dragonite made a sound as if to say that wasn't quite right.
"Don't worry about it. Come in and sit down."
Dragonite initially wanted to refuse, but then it sniffed the air, and after detecting a pleasant aroma, decided to come inside and take a look.
Clefable entered and immediately gave Lucario a big hug when they met.
Roy went to the kitchen, rubbed his hands together, prepared energy cubes suitable for Clefable and Dragonite's tastes, and placed them before the two Pokémon.
"Go ahead, eat up."
As a champion-level Pokémon, Dragonite had eaten all sorts of food.
But it searched its memory and couldn't recall ever tasting energy cubes like these.
Roy watched with a smile as Dragonite ate the energy cube and showed an expression of delight. Then he suddenly said, "Dragonite, we know each other well. Aren't we friends?"
Dragonite wanted to remain reserved, but glancing at the half-eaten energy cube in its hand, it couldn't help but nod.
"My friend is in trouble. Would you help me?"
"Draa." Dragonite affirmed, being naturally loyal.
"As expected of you! The strongest Pokémon in China!"
Roy hugged it admiringly, glanced at Elekid who was concentrating on eating, and whispered, "I want to ask you to take Elekid to Dragon's Lair once."
The playful demeanor suddenly vanished, and Dragonite's expression became serious.
Dragon's Lair was an exclusive habitat zone in China. It had been established for 60 years and was classified as a special security area.
In normal safe zones, wild Pokémon faced little survival pressure because humans regulated the ecology, so their strength was generally moderate.
But Dragon's Lair was different... As the name suggested, it was home to many Dragon-type Pokémon.
Dragon-type Pokémon typically had strong territorial instincts and irritable temperaments. Normal Trainers found them extremely difficult to control.
These personality traits led to fierce competition among the wild Pokémon in Dragon's Lair, even though it was technically a "safe zone." Many were quite powerful, with numerous group leaders reaching professional levels.
And Dragonite was the well-known "Dragon's Lair Alpha," commanding respect from all Pokémon in that habitat.
Dragonite asked why Roy wanted Elekid to go there.
"Elekid has a special physique and needs an opportunity to push the limits of its potential before it can evolve," Roy explained slowly. "I used to think that as long as Elekid participated fully in competitions and fought Pokémon of similar strength to its limit, it would be enough... but lately, I've realized I was mistaken."
"The so-called 'limit' probably refers to a battle where one's life is truly at stake," Roy said softly.
During competitions, no matter how fierce the battles became, Elekid subconsciously knew it wouldn't actually die.
This slight gap in perception was preventing it from evolving.
Pokémon competitions weren't sufficient, so Elekid needed to be sent to an environment with real Pokémon conflicts.
"Draa?" Dragonite expressed confusion. Why was Roy asking for its help?
With Roy's current reputation and connections, he likely could obtain permission to visit Dragon's Lair through official channels. There was no need to seek backdoor access through Dragonite.
"If I accompany Elekid, it will subconsciously rely on me. We spend every day together, and it would be difficult for me to create a convincing scenario."
Roy continued, "But with you, it's different. You command all the Pokémon in Dragon's Lair. You can instruct those Pokémon to protect Elekid's life without Elekid knowing."
Simply put, Roy wanted to make Elekid believe it was in truly life-threatening danger.
With Dragonite's authority ensuring its safety, Elekid would face the psychological pressure without actual risk.
This was Roy's plan.
Dragonite wanted to refuse, as this behavior bent the rules.
Though not a serious violation, as a champion Pokémon, it should lead by example and not knowingly break regulations.
But...
"Come on, don't be shy, eat up. Have as much as you want!"
Roy brought out several more containers of energy cubes from the kitchen and enthusiastically placed them before Dragonite.
So many! He offered so many energy cubes!
"Draa!"
Dragonite looked at Roy solemnly, nodded, and decided to help.
Whether it was about the food or not, the important thing was helping a friend!
