Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Devil Fruit

As Douglas took in the information in his head with more and more thought, he realized that it was so similar to the quirk of Chisaki—assembling and disassembling matter with a touch. Despite it being so strong, he knew that there was a weakness to it, in that he was only able to affect things that he touched. But if he were able to master it, and possibly awaken it, he might erase the requirement of touching and possibly disassemble and assemble things telepathically.

Douglas then ate the Devil Fruit without any hesitation. He swallowed the entire thing and tasted the shit-like flavor of the fruit. Douglas's expression turned into the most exaggerated face of disgust he had ever made, as the Devil Fruit's infamous taste did nothing to prepare him. The taste lasted for a good minute, but after that, it disappeared like magic.

Douglas then touched the table as he attempted to reform it into another shape, which he immediately succeeded in doing, as he could easily picture what he wanted in his mind. Kureha, watching this, was shocked, as it produced a sound that resembled an explosion, but it was nothing to be concerned about. Douglas then left the cabin, saying he wanted to try out his Devil Fruit abilities more.

"Doctor, I'll practice my abilities for now. See you later," Douglas said to Kureha as he walked out the door.

"Don't forget our food," Kureha said, reminding Douglas. Douglas nodded in agreement and started running away from the cabin.

Meanwhile, Chopper was with Dr. Hiriluk. Chopper became concerned with the status of Hiriluk, who was in immense pain due to his sickness and had no way to cure it. Chopper then remembered Douglas, who had treated him earlier—something that gave him hope, as he wanted Dr. Hiriluk to get better.

"Doctor, I found another human living with an elderly woman. They were kind and helped me and treated my wounds. The human I found also educated me on the mushroom that I thought was a cure. Maybe we should ask them for help," Chopper said—something that Hiriluk understood immediately. The elderly woman with another human sounded a lot like Kureha, his close friend, and the child sounded like the one she was caring for. Despite knowing that Kureha and the child could not heal or help him, he agreed to go to Kureha's house to give his gratitude for helping Chopper, and possibly to leave Chopper in their care when he died. Hiriluk could tell that his time was nearing, and he wanted to leave Chopper in the hands of someone trustworthy.

"Let's go then," Hiriluk said, wanting to leave the cave where he and Chopper had been staying. They both ventured toward the cabin where Kureha was living, as Hiriluk also had something on his mind that he wanted to discuss with her.

Douglas was now in the mountains, continuing to practice his Devil Fruit abilities. He touched a part of the mountain to summon spikes from the ground and shaped them into different forms, further enhancing his control over the figures. As Douglas was practicing, he was suddenly attacked by a herd of reindeer, led by the one that had been fighting Chopper earlier. Now, they were attacking him, trying to seek revenge for the humiliating defeat. Their number was more than 20—all strong adult reindeer—with eyes focused on Douglas, who was alone. They were confident they could jump him.

"Hmmm, I let you go earlier. Now, since you decided to attack me again, I'll kill every one of you and make you my lunch for the next week," Douglas announced, deciding to defeat them all. He didn't care that Chopper had once been part of this herd—since they had already abandoned him, Douglas would also seek revenge for everything Chopper had experienced, thinking about how the poor doctor had suffered just because of a difference in the color of his nose.

Douglas ran toward the leader, the first to attack, punching its head as it tried to pierce him with its antlers. When Douglas punched its head, it immediately collapsed. He then started targeting the others. One reindeer, charging toward him, was caught and put into a coma by a move called German Suplex. Others were taken out by kicks, punches, and headbutts. The entire battle lasted only ten minutes before it ended.

After seeing the reindeer that were in a coma, Douglas started creating a rope made out of the mountain, planning to drag them back to the cabin for a feast. But then he decided to use some of them for an experiment, knowing that his Devil Fruit could be used for something more useful.

Douglas touched the body of the leader and another reindeer, disassembling and reassembling the two of them into one. With his knowledge of anatomy, the result resembled Chopper in his Strong Point form, but with a more reindeer-like appearance. Their muscles bulged, with strength equivalent to two strong reindeer.

Douglas then repeated the experiment, using another eight reindeer to modify their forms for transportation. One resembled a bunny, with nearly all muscle mass focused in its legs. Another looked more like a bear. Another had a normal reindeer appearance but was double the usual size. The last had a mink-like state.

Happy with the results, Douglas then assembled them all into one, wanting to create a monster with the combined strength of ten strong male reindeer. He continued practicing until he got the exact result he wanted—a reindeer the same height as a normal one, but with far denser muscles. Its muscle density was ten times that of a regular reindeer. It was also extremely aggressive.

The moment Douglas released its restraints, it immediately attacked him—and this time, it matched Douglas' strength. This made Douglas happy, as he finally had an equal fight, not one where he could dominate easily. Douglas and the monster began to fight, with Douglas facing the reindeer head-on and without fear. Every charge from the reindeer was met with equal force—fists and kicks from Douglas, while the creature tried to kill him with its sharper horns.

After an hour of fighting, they reached a point where one move would decide everything. Douglas believed he would win in the final strike and moved immediately. He punched the monster, which met his punch. They were locked in a standstill for a moment before Douglas overpowered the creature and won the duel.

When Douglas won, he celebrated for a moment, having surpassed the limit he had stopped progressing beyond. Then, using his Devil Fruit, he touched the reindeer and himself, combining the monster's body with his own. He modified his body to look the same outwardly, but all of his internal organs were upgraded. His muscles became denser than ever, especially in his lower body—his thighs and legs were now more than twenty times stronger.

Douglas then casually kicked the side of the mountain without putting in much strength, yet managed to crack it. Shocked, he watched the crack travel, threatening to trigger a landslide, which he immediately fixed by using his Devil Fruit to restore the mountain to its previous state. Satisfied, Douglas decided it was time to return to the cabin, bringing the remaining ten reindeer that attacked him to serve as his feast with Dr. Kureha.
