Rise Of The Unworthy Trillionaire Son-in-law

Chapter 8: Past Life 2

"Set me free now! I'm not the person you speak of, there's no need keeping me here!" Ethan screamed as they all stared at him with confusion written all over their faces and in that moment, the door slowly flung open with a beautiful middle-aged woman dressed in an Italian suit. Her face was filled with worries but as she set eyes on Ethan, she smiled.

"It's good to have you back, Ethan. Begin the arrangements," she ordered.

"We can't, Mrs. Catalina. Ethan here claims not to have a clue who we are!" Agent Lorenzo revealed.

"That's absurd!" she countered as she took more steps towards Ethan who stared deep into her eyes.

The doctor and some other nurses walked into the same room, filling up the space while Ethan grew uncomfortable and tensed by the second.

"Ethan, you have been away for so long, I'm so glad I can set my eyes on you," Catalina confessed as she tried to touch Ethan's face, but he spat at her hand, cursing with anger.

"Set me free, you bastards! I know none of you and I'm no stupid heir!" Ethan screamed again and groaned in pain.

"What's the meaning of this, Lorenzo? What's going on here?" Catalina asked.

"He seems to have forgotten who he is, he claims another identity," Agent Lorenzo revealed. As he held tightly to his gun, Ethan on seeing the gun felt a sharp pain to the head — it was one of his horrific flashbacks.

"Doctor Bruce, clearly there must be an explanation for this nonsense!" Catalina asked, her face slowly turning red.

"Judging from his head bruises, he must have taken a hard blow that may have caused temporary memory loss."

"Or he could be an imposter with the same appearance as Ethan. Mrs. Catalina, give me the orders to take out this man if truly he's an imposter," Agent Lorenzo interrupted, his words harsh and dangerous.

Catalina stared at them all, but her main focus was on Ethan who turned away in shame.

"Leave us, all of you!" she commanded.

"But Mrs...."

"Leave now!" she screamed.

Everyone left immediately, leaving just Catalina and the man who claimed to have forgotten about his past. She locked the door and sobbed a little while Ethan stared aimlessly.

"Look into my eyes, Ethan. Tell me you don't know your aunt!" she ordered as Ethan slowly looked away.

"Look at me, Ethan!" she thundered.

"How did you all get to me? I thought I was the bad egg of the family, I thought no one wanted me around!" Ethan said, his voice low and dangerous.

"A lot has happened since you left, Ethan. The Bianchi family is no longer what it used to be. There are so many things that have gone wrong. Running away from your family did more harm than good!"

"Have you forgotten that my father disowned me? Have you forgotten what happened years back? You all tried to bend me to your will and when I proved stubborn, Salvatore Bianchi cursed his son. How can I even call such a man my father!" Ethan thundered.

Tears slowly streamed down Catalina's face as she turned around to avoid Ethan's eyes. She was utterly broken but managed to compose herself.

"If Agent Lorenzo hadn't found you, you would probably be dead, not knowing the chaos that has befallen your family. It's a shame."

"What sort of chaos?" Ethan asked in confusion.

"Your father, the man who disowned you, is dead. The main head is gone and in his demise, a lot of things have changed from better to worse!" Catalina dropped the bomb.

Ethan was speechless for a moment, he couldn't believe his ears as tiny goosebumps appeared on his skin. He was completely broken by such news.

"How did it happen?" he stammered as words failed him.

"Salvatore Bianchi was poisoned in his sleep and even with all the doctors at our disposal, none could save him. I watched my brother fade into the abyss. The killer left no trace and like a ghost, he still remains at large," Catalina replied, her eyes heavy with tears.

Ethan was heartbroken. He was angry at his father but never for once did he stop loving him. He was the man that taught him everything he knew.

"Where's my mother? I need to see her," Ethan asked as he tried to move but the sharp pains he felt made him groan.

Catalina tried to speak but words failed her as she gently sat by the side of his bed, weeping uncontrollably. Ethan grew confused by the moment as he tried to calm her down.

"Catalina, tell me what's wrong!" Ethan asked calmly.

"Everything is wrong. You abandoned your family. You abandoned your duties. After your father's death, your mother took over power but I knew for a fact that the killer of her husband would surely come for her. As a devoted member of the Bianchi Empire, I sought to protect her with my life, thinking she would restore the empire to its position in the top hierarchy, but I was wrong," Catalina paused as tears streamed down her cheeks.

"What happened to my mother? Talk to me, Catalina!" Ethan asked with a raised voice.

"One year ago, she was murdered in cold blood, right under my nose. I held her cold arms and realized I had failed her. I had failed my sister-in-law. I had failed your father."

Ethan could hardly speak or move as tears streamed down his cheeks. He couldn't hold them back this time.

"Everyone waited for you to step forward and take over the empire, find the killer that took out your parents, but they waited and you never came. And the position of your father and mother remained empty for years. People are losing faith in the empire, they believed you were dead. Investors are pulling out one by one. You are the true heir to save the Bianchi Empire or we will crumble to the ground," Catalina confessed with tears in her eyes.

"I have failed them. I have failed in life," Ethan muttered in tears, his heart heavy.

"You haven't lost just yet. You have to take back what belongs to you. You have to save this empire and find the man that murdered your parents!"

"It's all over, Catalina. Whoever killed them must be waiting for me to return so they can end the Bianchi true bloodline. I have failed my people!" Ethan revealed with a broken heart.

Catalina, in anger, slapped Ethan twice, her face covered in rage.

"You haven't lost, Ethan. You have to fight. You have to avenge your parents. If you shy away from this, then you are truly a fool as people say!" she thundered. Ethan wept in defeat, realizing he had not only lost his wife but the very family he once cherished with all his heart.

Ethan looked away, his tears now mixed with silent rage. "And if I die trying to avenge their deaths?"

"Then you die as a Bianchi. Not a coward."

Suddenly, a loud, urgent knock pounded against the hospital door. Catalina stood, alarmed.

"Mrs. Catalina!" a nurse's voice shouted from the other side. "There's an emergency. You need to come now! It's urgent!"

Catalina moved toward the door, but Ethan stopped her with a weak voice.

"What is it?"

She hesitated.

The nurse shouted again, more frantic this time: "Security footage just showed something… someone entered the east wing without clearance. He's heading this way!"

Catalina's eyes locked with Ethan's—wide, fearful, alert.

Outside the door, rapid footsteps echoed down the corridor.

Ethan's heart pounded and in that tensed moment, the hospital lights went out.
