Holy macaroni! What's happening?

Before my brain could react he closed the gap between us and placed his hand over my shoulder protectively.

Why does it feel like I'm the one in his trap instead of the other way around?!

"What's the meaning of this?" Mr. Cornelius muttered through clenched teeth and simultaneously a diabolical grin spread across Sebastian's lips.

What the hell? It brought him great joy to see his father infuriated. Something was definitely up with these two, but what?

"It's just as you heard, Father. I already have someone I plan to marry. Would you honor your promise and backoff now?"

I was completely lost in their conversation but I couldn't shake the feeling of being trapped in the middle of two giants. The way Sebastian said the word 'Father' sent shivers down my spine. It was better when he didn't! The amount of hostility embedded in his tone was troublesome.

"Ha… the promise. In that case, bring her to dinner tomorrow night! You'll have my answer then"

[This is a marvelous opportunity to make him fall! You mustn't miss this!]

For once I agree with the voice in my head. Despite my shock, I was able to keep a straight face when Mr. Cornelius shot me one last glance before walking away.

Phew… the tension that man brings could stop my heart from beating.

"Sorry… I shouldn't have dragged you into this. I would do well to compensate you -"

"No!" I rudely interrupted. "I mean, there's no need to apologize, I'm free tomorrow night so I can accompany you"

"No, thanks" He dismissed and I stubbornly ignored his refusal.

"I'm telling you it's fine. You must have your reasons and for that, I won't hold it against you. Bedside, what other option do you have?"

He stared at me for a minute longer and suddenly asked me the most ridiculous question. It was so out of pocket that I feared I might've puked through my nose!

"What about your boyfriend? Would he be okay knowing you'd be playing the girlfriend of Sebastian Cornelius at a family dinner?"

I was indeed rendered speechless. It wasn't even up to a day I made that outrageous confession, he was already holding me by those words?!

"Ah… that isn't a problem. We trust each other. Think about it, why would he get worked up when he knows it's all fake?"

There was a silent breeze in our midst and he weirdly repeated my words in a slightly daze. "It's all fake…"

"Send me your address, I'll come pick you up tomorrow evening -"

"There's no need for that" I quickly interjected and his brows narrowed suspiciously. Indeed my behavior was quite questionable and I had to do damage control. "Well, my house is a small apartment, I wouldn't want you coming there, instead I'd be here tomorrow evening after my shift"

"I'll handle things my way, just come for your shift tomorrow"

What the heck is that supposed to mean? I had no idea but I knew better than to oppose him. He wants me to report for duty tomorrow, does this mean he's no longer planning on firing me?

I took a bow and turned to leave but he suddenly called out to me.

"Suzy wasn't born with her disability"

My expression morphed into severe concern and I was more curious to know what happened. Luckily, he spoke and fueled my curiosity.

"Don't bring up her parents when you're with her. She suffered a painful separation and ever since she has refused to talk so don't pressure her and don't mention her parents in front of her. I'm giving you another chance since she likes you. That is all"

I was shocked but I didn't say anything, I knew such cases existed. I have seen it in the movies where the result of a traumatic experience makes one give up the desire to speak but it never crossed my mind to suspect Suzy of that.

She is such a sweet and beautiful girl and it hurts my heart to imagine the kind of pain she's feeling to result in such harsh self-inflicted suffering.

I nodded accordingly and walked away to find Suzy.

Joy couldn't describe how I felt about the dinner arrangement. Any opportunity to get close to Sebastian is golden to me!

So far I've already met his Father and it's clear that he's a boiling cup of tea! I can't help my wonder how his Mother would react. To be honest, I'm not into family dramas and the reason is quite obvious but I wouldn't mind infiltrating his family just for the sole purpose of making him fall in love with me!

"Suzy!" I called out and reacted immediately. She could really hear, so she's just the one refusing to talk. I couldn't help but wonder if my mom's case was similar.

The reason I learned sign language was to communicate with people in this regard and learn from them so I could understand my mom better since it's the only connection I have to her.

"S.L: Can you understand me when I speak?"

"S.L: Yes"

Good, I just had to check in with her. So from now on, I don't have to sign when I'm speaking to her. That is, of course when I'm not teaching her. Although if you asked me, I'd say she was already pretty good with her signing.

"S.L: You're in a good mood, Aunty. Did something happen?"

Wow, so young yet so observant! "Yes I'm in a fabulous mood, Suzy"

"S.L: Why?"

"Uhm… because I have a date! I'm going on a special date"

Her eyes lit up more as I spoke, she was really interested in this conversation now.

"S.L: Why is it special, aunty?"

That's a rather interesting question. "It's special because my date is my secret admirer"

"S.L: What's a secret admirer?"

How do I respond to this? "Ehem… a secret admirer is someone you need to be close to but the person isn't aware of that desire, so it's a secret"

Her eyes lit up more like she just discovered when the ancient map of treasures was located.

"S.L: I am your secret admirer!"

I couldn't help laughing. It seems she was starting to esteem me higher than even Mr. Bunny. Not that I'm complaining, to be honest. I'm more concerned about what's going to happen tomorrow.
