Chapter 11: Chapter 11: My first day!
The morning came nice and bright, I was glad I had my beauty sleep because from now on, taking care of my face was my top priority.
Although Sebastian didn't have the reaction I was expecting I guess I should be glad he even had a reaction to begin with. His reputation was the worst, with a declining negative value. Simply put his cruel disposition was unmatched so I'm lucky to even get just about anything!
His out-of-pocket behavior flooded my memories while I got ready. He really thought I was wearing a skin mask back then. That only means I must look a lot like her.
It's really strange that I was unable to find any photo of her despite my relentless search these past few days, not even her name!
Someone was doing everything to keep her identity hidden and it was quite obvious who that was!
I don't plan to impersonate her or do anything crazy, but if I'm going to spark his interest, I shouldn't act like myself! Should I?
I should embody the only person he ever loved. I'm aware of this but… her character was a bit… unimaginable and I'm stuck in my head wondering if I could pull a character I know nothing about!
In this case, there's only one thing I could do!
This thought was running through my mind while I got ready to head out. Today was the weekend and it was early in the morning, a fine morning at that! My first day!
I dropped off the painting and exited the mansion. Yes, in the end, I had to complete that painting, it's the only way I could escape today. I can't obviously use the excuse of sickness and be allowed to leave the house! I might've shot myself in the foot with that excuse but I survived.
In no time, I arrived at Sebastian's Mansion which was located in an estate called the Jade Pavilion. I was allowed in without a hustle and taken to the main house.
For some reason, it never occurred to me that other people would be there!
I stood frozen at the door watching countless maids perform their duties and a wave of frustration swept through me.
"Of course they're other maids" I murmured and it seemed they suddenly noticed my presence. One by one they stared at me with a weird expression but it was for good reasons!
The best of them only gave me a quick glance while the majority had their eyes glued to my appearance!
For facts, I didn't think that altering my appearance would elicit such a reaction but I was hoping it would be a positive one!
[You're wearing a freaking pixie cut wig! What were you expecting?]
My ears twitched slightly. Do I need to see a therapist concerning this voice in my head?! It's so annoying!
"Right this way ma'am. Sir Sebastian informed me of your arrival"
A more advanced maid approached me and from the tag on her shirt, I deduced she was the head maid. I did a little bow and followed behind her. At least she wasn't giving me an awkward stare.
My purpose for looking totally crazy today was best known to me alone and I'd like to keep it that way.
"Sir Sebastian instructed you to revise the contract and sign it right away"
Sounds just like him to command so suddenly, what if I needed more than a moment to comprehend the contract? What then?
[You were the one literally begging for a job. Did you forget so soon?]
I'm definitely seeing a therapist!
"There's no need to read through I'll sign it right away"
As I spoke I picked up the fountain pen and signed the contract. My actions were very unprofessional but who cares about being conservative when my life was literally on the line?!
I would basically oblige to anything the contracts says even if I have to bark like a dog. I'm just that desperate!
"Right this way"
I followed being to another section of the huge mansion but I wasn't flabbergasted because the Whitemore House was also built to the peak of luxury. Knowing Beatrice's extravagant taste, that was simply foreseen.
"The young miss is over there" She said tersely and shut the door behind her. I couldn't help feeling her attitude was far too similar to Sebastians'. Is this what happens when you live with such a bag of frost?
"Hi, Suzy"
I was told that she could hear fine so I anticipated a reaction from her but I was grossly mistaken because she completely ignored my existence and focused on a set of animated puzzles.
"This is awkward…" I murmured and slowly approached her.
"These kinds of puzzles are quite difficult, aren't they?" I teased but still no response. Only the room knew the sound of voice and I couldn't help feeling frustrated. The only reason I'm here is because of Sebastian!
"S.L : Leave me alone!"
If sign language could have exclamation marks then hers definitely had! Her moves were sharp and fierce, clear evidence that she wanted me gone! But I was a stubborn bull that saw even that move as a light in a dark tunnel. At least she acknowledged my presence. I'm used to being dismissed so this is nothing.
I looked around the room, it was filled with all kinds of things for kids and tools for playing but I noticed they were all items for solo games. I would know better than anyone else. All I ever searched for were games for a one-man player.
I walked over and carried a board but this action seemed all too familiar to me. The first time I picked up a paintbrush wasn't much different from this and I was just about her age.
"Why am I so nostalgic today?" I murmured some more and sat back down beside her. She continued ignoring me and I didn't bother her anymore, I just picked up a brush and started with lighter strokes, steadily thickening while mixing calm colors as my eyes darted towards her and back on my board.
Her indifference to me resulted in a better result. I captured the beauty behind her focus in my painting and for a tip I drew a little bunny beside her.
She still wouldn't look and I had no choice but to place the drawing in front of her. I watched her eyes widen in surprise and she finally stared at me with liveliness.
"S.L : It's you, the aunty from yesterday. I didn't know because of your new hairstyle"
Ah, this hair was causing more harm than good and I haven't even used it for its real purpose! When does Sebastian come home?! Does he work on the weekends too? This is frustrating.
"S.L : I'm happy you remember me now. It made me sad that you wouldn't even look at me"
"S.L: I'm sorry"
She lowered her head with a solemn look but her eyes still remained glued on the painting and I found this especially cute.
I tapped her shoulder and signed her some words.
"S.L : It's okay, I'm not sad. Do you like the painting?"
Immediately I asked her expression instantly brightened up with a smile.
"S.L: Yes, I love it and Mr. Bunny looks amazing too. Do you want to see him?"
I was taken aback by her request and accepted. She didn't waste any time in leading me to a different room and the moment I stepped in I realized this was her room. It was befitting of a princess and every corner screamed of luxury but the humongous size wasn't the problem! Something else baffled me more and I stared on in disbelief.
Indeed, Mr. Bunny was real and not a stuffed animal! He was as real as it gets, cuddled up in himself and nestled in a cage.
One glance and it was obvious she took extremely good care of him. His cage looked more conducive than my room, having a blanket a heater, and even toys! And a food pump that never runs out. This rabbit was living a better life than I was! So much that I was tempted to fill in the space of Mrs. Bunny!
"S.L : Say hi to pretty Aunty"
She also signs to the bunny… what more could I ask for?
I leaned into the level of the cage and waved with a smile but of course, he continued eating without paying us any attention.
At that moment a knock on the door came.
"Sir Sebastian is asking to see you" She was referring to me so I waved to Suzy and followed behind.
My real job starts now! Finally, Sebastian is around. Let the show begin.
