Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Yeah, that was funny.
As Monadias woke up, he, again, didn't find Handeron in his bed. It was about 3 weeks after the incident with the beastwoman. Slaine somehow managed to make her a worker at the adventurers guild, hiding most of her body in clothes
Since then, there were more and more adventurers coming there, curious about the girl who works in full clothes while summer is coming. Nainsie came back to school for the end of her second year and summer break. She sent Miss Slaine her exams final results, it seems like she passed, barely but still...
He then did his usual morning routine: get dressed, wash himself a little, and eat something form the landlady, because she gave them free food and rent for the recipe Handeron shown her. As he exited the cities borders, he went to the nearby forest to train.
His training, as suggested by Irse, consisted of a mind construct training, and then real life output. The surroundings are different in both scenarios, so Monadias needs to be ready for both. It doesn't take him more than half an hour daily.
Handeron on the other hand had a more strict routine. Strength and durability training in real world, combat and others in the mind construct. Handeron couldn't train physically in his mind construct, because it was an office, and the desk became lightweight in a while, the bookshelves stacked on top of it were no difference, so he started lifting trees and such. Besides, working out in mind construct is not as effective as in the real world. The same goes for taken damage, lost stamina and such. This is the reason he was the one to wake up earlier.
As time went by, Monadias grew to 83%, his progress was going down drastically day by day, and Handeron had 76%.
As their training went on and on, they were called to Slaines office. They entered Adventurers Guild, and saw a familiar face there.
- Hello, Miss Mummy Allclothes, we were called by your boss, is she there?
- Shut it, I can't let anybody know I am of beastpeople, so it had to be done.
- Yeah, yeah.
They headed straight to the office. As they were let inside by Slaine, they saw her looking out of the window at the street. She then turned to face them, with a calm expression on her face.
- Listen up, straight and simple. I have two informations about what will happen, and you obey, while I don't care about your opinion.
- We are all ears.
- First, due to both of you having extraordinary traits, you are being sent to the Caipitil, as new students of the Weapon Mastery University of Caipitil. You will be at the last year of studying on the most prestiguous major, the Total Weapon Master, due to the fact that you already possess high enough potential to graduate, but you still need to attend the lessons. This is a part of hidden operation, that I think you both will like, so be patient. You will be assigned to the group that Nainsie attends, so you have at least one person you know. Any questions at that point?
As Monadias heard that, he fell to his knees, and crawled to where Slaine was standing. He then, face on the floor begged:
- Please, everything, but not school! Seriously, I can go jump out of this window for you, but please don't make me come back there!
- It's already decided. If you don't do this, the plan will go down the drain.
Handeron then took Monadias away, dragging him by the collar of his white shirt, from Slaine, as he began sobbing like a child.
- And what about this plan?
- It would be inappropiate to talk about it in a place like this. You will know when you meet the right person.
- So we go in without any knowledge?
- Yes.
- Ugh... great. What about the second thing?
- I want you to do a showmatch for me, first a one versus one, then you both will fight me.
- Why would we do that? We already fought multiple times.
- But not when I was watching... Besides, I am just curious.
- So that is an act of your own accord?
- Nope, I have to give the person that you will meet something like a memo of how strong you are, so it has a reason to it.
- Okay, when are we going to fight?
- Today, both fights, because I am a busy woman. The trip to the Caipitil starts tommorrow, so we don't have time to do this later. Maybe you two will get me out of here, at last.
All was decided. They left the Adventurers Guild, and went looking for a place to fight, quiet one. They found an open field and it was chosen as a place where the battle will take place. Of course, Handeron and Monadias didn't have a deciding vote even in the slightest, it was Slaine that picked it.
They stood on opposite sides. Handeron raised his guard, like boxers do, and waited for Monadias's first move. Monadias took his bow out, aimed at Handeron and was ready to fight. His clothes started changing colors to green, and as Handeron saw that, he smiled, and his armor also appeared. They were significantly more complete, Handeron's armor now nearly covered him fully, without boots, and helmet, while Monadias had everything greenish now. Slaine raised her hand.
- Okay, you ready?
- Yep.
- Yes.
- Good, then three.... two.... oneeeee.... Fight!
She swinged her arm like racers do, when the race is started.
As for Handeron and Monadias, they both instantly knew what they should do. As they raised their hands, they both screamed out.
- Ionsai!
The surroundings changed. It was some kind of forest, with giant trees. Monadias quickly moved, looking for Handeron's crystal. He knew his advantage was a quick fight, whereas Handeron's was long battles. As he moved through the woods, a hand emerged from behind one of the trees, heading for a knockout. Monadias dodged it, and soon enough it was followed by a barrage of arrows coming towards Handeron. He didn't care about them, blocking as they came, as he dashed towards Monadias. He tried landing a hit on him, unsuccessfully. Monadias then dashed back, making distance so he won't be catched off guard.
- There goes my surprise advantage.
- I got used to it.
- Good, but you still weren't able to find the crystal.
- But I can still defeat you here.
- Try then.
Handeron was quickly approaching, dodging the arrows Monadias sent out, and tried attacking him once more. Monadias dodged, but as he turned to face Handeron, he was already back, helpimg himself with a tree that was behind Monadias. He was hit, but managed to reduce the damage with his wind, and instantly attacked Handeron back with the Spiral Shot. It hit, his whole chest was in the range of it, since it got stronger with more training. As Handeron was sent back, he destroyed some of the trees on his way.
[Nice. Now, maybe I will try this...]
He then came back to the place they fought, but Monadias was missing. Handeron knew he was going for the crystal, and that he doesn't know where it is, so he just went to a random direction looking for him. He was then immediately attacked by Monadias, and he flew the way Handeron was trying to go.
- So your crystal is over there?
- Kh, get back here!
Handeron then, to delude him even more, started chasing him. Monadias then still tried hitting him, but as he tried to shoot, he lost speed, so he quickly abandoned that idea. After a while, the crystal wasn't found, Monadias tried attacking Handeron, but it wasn't effective enough.
The mind construct then closed, with Monadias's Ionsai failing. As they both woke up in the reality, Monadias fired some arrows towards Handeron, and as he decided to block, he fired three consecutive spiral shots. Handeron was sent flying thanks to that, but soon started running towards Monadias. He then sunk his hands in the ground and threw grasped earth fragments at him. Monadias got rid of them quickly, but it's shattered crumbs crated a momentary blind spot for Handeron and after Monadias blew them out of the esyay, he saw Handeron getting really close. He tried getting distance by flying upwards, but Handron jumped to catch him.
Monadias tried dodging and it was successful, or so he thought, because Handeron catched his leg in the process and as he fell down with him, it was Monadias that was on the bottom, now immobile thanks to Handeron and his overwhelming grasp, that kept Monadias in place.
- You need to have your opponent always in sight, because he can get advantage of that.
- I know, now, get off me, I give up.
- Get up.
They shaked hands and walked towards Slaine. It really seemed more like a training, but still, a fight is a fight, and the winner was Handeron. Though it seems that if it really was a fight for the win, Monadias would have won, using the range and speed advantage.
- It was kinda disappointing, to be honest.
- Why do you think so, Miss Slaine.
- I was waiting for a fight to death, but it seems like I forgot that you are friends and stuff.
- It's not only that. We both knew that it's you who we will be going against after this battle, so we just ended it as fast as possible.
- Oh, right... I nearly forgot. Yeah, half an hour break and we will begin.
Handeron and Monadias then sat on a tree trunk in the nearby forest. They ate some buns that Handeron took with him, and they talked about stuff.
- So, why didn't you go straight for the crystal, when you saw that I was gone?
- You didn't know where it was, at least I thought you didn't, so I guessed that you guessed, and I went looking for you. It was quite weird that if you were to fly away, you would break the branches of the trees, but all were intact, but I just ignored that. Still, waiting for me was quite a smart plan.
- And you baited me even more...
- Yeah, that was funny.
- Shut it. I will beat you next time.
- For now, I am being carried by luck and intelligence, but as you will gain experience, you will win everytime, considering how you are faster than me now, and also more versitile. I am more of a juggernaut, and you are a total marksman, but with agility of an assassin. You are strong.
- Thanks, but I still have a lot to learn.
- That's why we are going to school.
- Don't remind me of that absolutely horrific place.
- But still, we didn't finish our school life, so we should accept that we can.
- School is boring. If I could, I would just learn from you. And also, our "first" school life wasn't very fruitfull.
- I'm not all knowing, you know?
- Yeah, but school sucks nevertheless.
- Still, we should appreciate it a little. No more boys only school, we will maybe find ourselves girlfriends.
- With your face this could be hard.
- I know, but with yours it will be too easy, so maybe it's just right in the middle. Besides, I'm not even that ugly.
- I can't talk to girls.
- You get used to it, just be yourself and you are good.
***
As their break was slowly approaching it's end, they came back to the plains. They saw Slaine there, and approached her.
- So, are we going to start now?
- Yep, stand on the other side while I get ready.
She then took her greatsword, while Handeron and Monadias were going to the other side of the battlefield. Some time passed, and both sides were ready for the fight.
- You ready?
- We are.
- Then start.
Monadias started shooting her down, while Handeron waited for her move. Slaine blocked off most of the arrows, but stayed in her place. As Monadias decided to shoot a Spiral Shot, it was cut of by a flame, looking like a slash. They saw Slaine, her hair changed to burning red, with only her hair ends being white, and her outfit changed colours too. A bright watcher could also spot the difference in her eyes, her irises were mostly red now.
Her sword was launching flames from it's tip. It was glowing red and yellow, flames hot even without contact. She then send out more of these slashes, that Handeron took on himself, and soon she started to reduce the distance. She was stopped by Handeron in the middle of the battlefield, and, as she was faster and stronger than him, she kicked him with her right leg to send him to the side. She then instantly merged her fingers, and tried doing Ionsai, aimed at Monadias, but Handeron didn't give up that easily, and hit her powerfully. She was pushed back, but didn't fall.
As Handeron tried attacking her now, with Monadias's assist, she swung her greatsword at him. He managed to block it, it was quite a heavy strike, and the blade was hot, too. The temperature in such close contact was hurting him more and more. Monadias then tried shooting her as she was still trying to push Handeron away through attacks, but she blocked them. Handeron was aiming to hit her side, but was instead hit by her elbow. Even after that, he still lunged at her. She got grabbed by him, and hit in the leg. As she tried taking Handeron off of her, she smacked him on the face a few times, but he still had her tightly squeezed.
- This won't do. You really prepared for that fight, did you?
She then threw her sword at Monadias, and as he dodged and aimed his sights at her, she tried using Ionsai again. But Handeron made sure that she couldn't do it on Monadias by notoriously moving, so that she can't keep balance and aim her fingers properly. As she had no weapon in her arm, this time when she hit Handeron a few times, the punches were enough for Handeron to lose grip, and as her sword, releasing flames, came back like a rocket, she grabbed it with her right hand, and with her left hand ready, she said.
- Ionsai!
