Chapter 55: The Aura Bond
The afternoon sun bathed the countryside estate in a gentle golden hue. Nestled just beyond the outskirts of Saffron City, the place exuded calm—but within the training yard, tension simmered.
Ray stood near the boundary of the open space, arms crossed, as Kira stepped forward with focused eyes. Her posture was determined, her heartbeat steady. Today was more than just a test—it was a chance.
Duke, the veteran aura master and longtime friend of Professor Oak, regarded them with mild curiosity. Despite his silvered hair and advanced age, his presence radiated a quiet strength. His Lucario stood at his side, posture relaxed, but its eyes gleamed with intensity.
Ray's system came to life instantly.

Ray blinked. Incredible… That Lucario's stats are extraordinary. Few trainers ever formed such a deep bond with their Pokémon. He'd never seen aura synchronization in real time before.
"I'd like to see what your best partner can do," Duke said, a slight smile lifting the edge of his face.
Kira nodded and reached for her Pokéball. "Machoke, let's show them!"
With a flash, her loyal Machoke materialized, muscles tense, eyes locked onto Lucario. The two Fighting-types silently acknowledged one another.
"Begin," Duke stated simply.
"Close Combat!" Kira ordered.
Machoke burst forward, unleashing a flurry of punches and knee strikes with explosive speed. Lucario dodged each strike fluidly, moving as though it already knew where every hit would land.
"Counter."
Lucario twisted, delivering a single palm strike glowing with aura energy. The blow hit Machoke squarely in the chest, sending him flying across the yard.
Kira ran to the edge. "Are you okay!?"
Machoke groaned but stood, pounding his fists together and returning to stance.
"Let's go again—Dynamic Punch!"
This time, Machoke connected—a solid hit to Lucario's shoulder that pushed it back several feet. The aura Pokémon narrowed its eyes, unfazed.
"Power-Up Punch," Duke commanded.
Lucario's fists shimmered orange, striking Machoke cleanly and forcing him back.
The fight escalated—but then, something changed.
Ray's system pulsed.

Ray exhaled, eyes wide. He's leveling up mid-battle…
Machoke's stance changed. He moved with more fluidity, responding instantly to Kira's commands, their rhythm becoming nearly seamless.
"Cross Chop!"
Machoke's glowing arms slashed down in an X-pattern. Lucario grunted and slid backward—its first visible sign of exertion.
"Well done," Duke said, raising an eyebrow. "Now, allow me to show you what lies ahead on your journey."
His eyes closed briefly, and beside him, Lucario's body erupted in aura light. A deep azure energy connected trainer and Pokémon like threads of fate. To most, it looked like radiant glow—but to Ray, it was clearer than ever.

Ray's heart pounded. This isn't just training. This is what it means to be one with your Pokémon.
"Aura Sphere," Duke commanded calmly.
Lucario stepped forward, charging a ball of focused aura energy and firing it in a swift, precise burst. The impact engulfed Machoke in a brilliant flash.
When the dust cleared, Machoke lay unconscious—but peaceful.
"He's fine," Ray reassured Kira after a quick scan. "No major damage. Just out cold."
Duke returned Lucario and walked over with slow, deliberate steps.
"You and Machoke… you've come far. And you still have a long way to go. That's good."
He turned and walked toward a small outbuilding, returning moments later with a Pokéball. It gleamed dully under the light.
"This Pokéball," he said, offering it to Kira, "contains something precious. A Riolu. The last egg Lucario sired hatched not long ago. If you are truly ready to walk this path… then Riolu may choose to walk it with you."
Kira's hands trembled as she accepted it. Her eyes sparkled.
"I… I'll do my best," she said, bowing deeply.
Ray smiled warmly. "He couldn't have chosen anyone better."
From a window inside the estate, Duke's wife watched with a soft smile, wiping away a tear. "He hasn't given away one of Lucario's children in years."
Kira looked down at the Pokéball, then up at the sky.
A new partner. A new future.
