Reincarnated Into a Pokémon World and Can See Their Hidden Potential?!

Chapter 54: A New Challenge and a Trial for a Partner

The Intermediate Trainer Tournament was just four months away, and for both Ray and Kira, the clock had started ticking.

The days were growing longer, the skies brighter with the approaching season, and the weight of their dreams heavier on their shoulders. Ray already had his team: Pidgeotto, Dratini, and the newly hatched Charmander from Professor Oak. Kira, on the other hand, had only one.

But that was about to change.

A Second Partner for Kira

It was Damoss, Kira's father, who secured her second Pokémon.

The Pokémon egg had been a rare gift—one he had kept in incubation for some time. When it finally hatched, a determined Tyrogue had emerged, full of restless energy and sharp, focused eyes.

"I don't want to just give you power," Damoss told her. "But I will give you opportunity. It's up to you to shape your team."

Kira hugged him fiercely, the Tyrogue standing beside her already copying her fighting stance. "I'll make you proud."

The Final Piece – Professor Oak's Recommendation

For her third Pokémon, Kira didn't want random chance. She wanted a partner with meaning. Seeing her determination, Ray reached out to Professor Oak.

The Professor was more than willing to help. He said he had a trusted friend in Saffron City, someone who had once trained alongside him decades ago. His name was Duke, and he and his wife lived on the outskirts of the city—far from the bustling central districts.

Today was the day they'd visit.

The House in the Woods

Ray, Kira, and Damoss traveled by carriage to the quiet outer rim of Saffron City. The house was nestled against a hillside, shaded by towering trees and wrapped in flowering vines. It gave off a sense of peace—and mystery.

When they knocked on the wooden door, it creaked open slightly, revealing a woman with long silver hair tied in a bun. Her eyes were sharp, yet kind.

"Yes?" she asked with a curious tone.

Ray stepped forward. "Good afternoon, ma'am. We were sent by Professor Oak. My name is Ray Virel, and this is Kira Damoss and her father."

At the mention of Oak, her expression shifted into one of faint recognition. "Ray… and Kira, you said?"

They nodded.

She opened the door wider. "Come in."

The house smelled of herbs and old books. The furniture was well-kept, and Pokémon memorabilia lined the walls. The woman called toward a hallway, "Duke! The guests from Pallet have arrived!"

Heavy footsteps echoed through the house before a man entered the room. He was aged, his hair gray and his back slightly hunched—but the moment he locked eyes with them, it was like staring into the soul of a veteran warrior. His presence radiated power—calm, immense, and controlled.

"So," he said in a gravelly voice, "you're the ones Oak mentioned."

They all bowed politely.

Ray introduced them again, and Duke narrowed his eyes at Kira. "So it's you who seeks a partner."

"Yes, sir," Kira said with composure. "I want to grow stronger, and I hope to meet a Pokémon that will fight with me for that goal."

Duke grunted. "Did Oak tell you about my condition?"

"We've been informed," Damoss answered for her.

Duke stepped forward, walking past Kira slowly, inspecting her with a subtle nod. "Words are fine. Dreams are admirable. But Pokémon don't respond to speeches. They respond to truth... strength... and intent."

He turned to the small clearing outside the house. "You want a partner from my team? You'll have to prove you're worthy."

Kira's heart beat faster.

Ray offered her a quiet nod of encouragement.

The older man gestured toward a wide, grassy ring outlined with stones. "Show me what you've got."

And with that, the trial to earn her third partner was about to begin.
